My infectious diseases consultant who confirmed I finish my antibiotics on Thursday has done wonders for me. I have just received an emergency orthopaedic appointment for Monday!!!

Morning all. I think the dream gerbil must have subcontracted to Maud, because I dreamt about battenburg last night. Although the yellow quarters were cheese flavoured.

Love the tapered pixie cut! My hair is very short and has been since I was at uni. I think I will show that to my hairdresser. I started going grey quite young and coloured it for years. A combo of retirement and lockdown meant I stopped that and discovered my natural colour is silver which I now embrace.

A friend of mine was once young, tall, muscular and slim, with thick blond hair and marvellous ivory skin. In his 50s, overweight, balding, skin weathered by decades of working outdoors, his adolescent son (almost a carbon copy of his father's younger self) was being arrogant and annoying and mocking his father's battered form. The retort?
'I once had a body like yours, hair like yours and skin like yours. Just give it forty years and then you'll bloody see!'

Further news about my appointment. The formidable Infectious Disease Consultant who just has to walk into a room and be for everyone to see how amazing she is, has arranged to see me at 2pm on Monday.

So I can imagine the call to my orthopaedic surgeon, "I can’t discharge my patient until you’ve seen her. You’re currently six weeks away from an appointment that should have happened a month ago. How do we make this timeline make sense this week so we can both discharge her?”

I suspect he just crumpled.

She absolutely is. She's very tall, around 60, upper middle-class and great posture. Dark-grey white hair, wearing long tweedy skirts with knee-high boots and high neck jumpers. Very imposing. She just walked into the ward and I thought I love her and then I was thrilled she was my consultant.

When I called her team yesterday I said she was amazing and the woman I was speaking to was also raving about her and said she was amazing. I feel very fortunate.

She sounds sort of like the Naomi Cunningham of the Infectious Diseases world😁

sounds like they’re both women who have to spend a lot of time dealing with the mess made by others - individually and institutionally - not doing things right.

Anyway, aligning with yesterday’s theme I’ve been to the dental hygienist this morning . Pavements were lethally black iced, I hadn’t realised it had been so cold overnight.
