Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Mixed sex toilets are terrifying for women but just a laugh for men.

I can enjoy a good fart joke but this “hilarious” anecdote by cricket commentator David “Bumble” Lloyd left me cold. Men really have no idea of the fear women have of mixed sex facilities.

https://www.facebook.com/reel/3843028419327926/?fs=e&s=TIeQ9V&fs=e&fs=e

If the link doesn’t work, it’s a viral, supposedly hilarious account of David going into a mixed-sex loo for a poo and letting off a loud fart. The lady in the cubicle next to him calls out “Is that you Maureen”.

From David’s point of view, (and pretty much every man and “cool girl” on the planet) he thinks that Maureen must be such a regular farter that her friend thinks the fart noise just has to be her.

I suspect most women would read this situation differently- Maureen’s friend has realised she was half naked inches away from a strange man and is calling out anxiously to her friend to make sure she isn’t alone.

I’m wondering what this board’s thoughts would be. Am I just looking to hard into an anecdote or is men’s complete obliviousness a big issue when it comes to mixed sex facilities.

I am amazed at the naivety of these handmaiden types so keen to open up women’s private spaces to men. Do they know the grim shit some men get up to?

Decent men (like DH) are usually default suspicious of other men they don’t know because they know the reality of what some men are actually like.

Like the men who tell us on Twitter that they have ejaculated and wiped it on the toilet paper and the flush button that they know women are going to use?

Apparently, it is our fault for reading such things….

And yet, I have specifically said that NOT ALL MEN do this. Do you have an issue reading words of people you disagree with and have a prejudiced view about? Are you not bothering to read posts like you advise us to do so we remain ignorant?

If you have issues with absolutist thoughts, no wonder you cannot believe that there are some very disturbed male individuals out there. Because you seem to believe if there is one very disturbed male individual then they all must be.

No wonder you wish to remain uninformed.

TheaBrandt1 · 29/12/2025 21:35

Look at the Pelicot case. The dark side of numerous run of the mill men in a random area given the opportunity to rape with impunity and did so repeatedly. Doesn’t fill one with confidence and make us women want to throw the doors to our loos open to them does it ? 🙄

FFS!

YES! And they post about it on twitter to then alap intimidate women. What part of this discussion do you think we have made up?

You keep telling us that we are the ones at fault yet you really are not up to date on what is happening you and are very keen to vilify us for discussing it.

SwirlyGates · 29/12/2025 21:42

Oh, and the men who get off on hearing women piss, and will video them in toilets if they get a chance.

Find me a woman anywhere, just one, who has a fetish for videoing other people in toilets.

Indeed. I remember two prominent male social media influencers discussing and mocking female toilet noises on twitter.

Again, apparently it is our fault for reading those posts.

You really cannot make this crap up.

Yes it is. And THESE are the men campaigning to be allowed into women only spaces. They aren't even trying to hide it.

alap = also

The naivety on display here is absolutely staggering. To support and defend a cause you don’t actually fully understand and is definitely against women’s interests is pretty jaw dropping.

I don't think every man wants to do perverted things in a toilet.

I think some men do. And I've posted evidence above.

Let me know how I can tell the good man from the bad man?

Helleofabore · 29/12/2025 21:21

Yes. I have noticed this.

I believe that that younger demographic is showing just how negatively they view their enforced mixed sex toilet provision in school in this tracker.

Women have been raising the alarm about the harm to girls in schools with mixed sex toilets for years and years. I think we are seeing the impact of this in that tracker

I agree; that does seem very likely.
How awful that some schools force this onto children without even consulting them or their parents. I think it is highly likely that some of the 200 school rapes a year have been enabled by mixed sex toilet provision.

TheaBrandt1 · 29/12/2025 21:59

A minority do - so sadly for the non perverted trans people that means none should be given access. Womens safety and dignity has to come first and take priority here. Sorry not sorry.

RatWrangler · 29/12/2025 22:09

The incredibly dismissive and frankly very selfish "fuck you Jack, I'm alright" attitude of so many women will never fail to disappoint me.

There have been posters on here that have given evidence of of sexual assault being MUCH more prevalent in mixed-sex changing rooms than in single-sex, due to predators being allowed unfettered access. There is no reason to suspect that toilets would be any different.

There have been posters that have pointed out that mixed sex toilets are worse for disease control because they are dirtier and that those having a medical emergency are more likely to die due to remaining undiscovered in totally enclosed cubicles. Yet the response from many women on here is essentially to shrug and say "meh, I don't care"

In this case, women were able to alert someone because this man wasn't entitled to be there.

And when asked by the police why he was in the women’s toilets, he told them he identified as a woman.
There you are then. Why not?

Do I see a new community disruptor or two trying to deploy Rules One, Two, Three, Ten, Twelve, Thirteen, and Sixteen? I think that's the most I've seen in the same thread since I started deliberately posting Rules notifications on threads a few weeks ago.

Rule One: Men post online about their sexual perversions, but this is somehow our fault for noticing that they do this.
Rule Two: I don't need to spell this one out.
Rule Three: I don't need to spell this out either.
Rule Ten: The endless "not ALL men!" I don't care, enough are a problem that they can all stay out.
Rule Twelve: How dare women talk about how sexually-assaulting people in toilets and fitting covert cameras is something that men do and women don't?
Rule Thirteen: The "don't you have other things to worry about?" rhetoric is basically a toned-down version of "you're crazy to care about this".
Rule Sixteen: I own my body, you don't, and men don't. My right to privacy from the male gaze is not yours to give away.

We also had a number 5 and potentially number 9. Or number 9 by proxy at least.

If it was a mixed sex loo, as a woman, I'd expect men to be in there so can't see your problem with his anecdote.

Like this delightful young chap. There was a more local article that went into more detail but I couldn't bring myself to post it.

Edited to add rocking horse in children's playground.

shudder

I’ve never been ‘terrified’ in a mixed sex toilet since I’d be in a private cubicle, you’re reading far too much into this.

I agree. It's a non event.
