Wow, good find, weegielass. I've only listened to the first few minutes of the second one, but boy is she proud of that visiting professorship....!
ETA so that video is 2014 and she's saying "you're talking to a professor" after explaining that "a number of years later" the U. of Ulster gave her a VP - at which point, we're guessing, she was already 10 years post the appointment to a thing that, at least later, had a 4 year term...omg.

weegielass · 16/11/2025 17:08

here we go! I found her specialism! Self proclaimed of course. And she puts on an american accent :

In this video, she admits she didn't go to university but got given a visiting professorship and the irish accent is back :

Well done weegielass! 'Professor of environmental science and waste management'

"I didn't go to University to learn about recycling. I went to the coal-face..hands on... and then a number of years later the University of Ulster honoured me with a visiting professorship so you're talking to a professor...much laughter'

So there we have it.

She doesn't know enough about academia to know that doesn't actually make you a professor or mean you can use the title professor as a professional title.

So BOOM, well done weegieglass. The mystery is solved.

That means trouble for the Tribunal.

She should not have been using the title and there it was front and centre.

It would also seem from what she is saying about Re3 creating biofuls that can replace traditional fuels that they are, indeed, very likely embroiled in the Ash for Cash grift as someone mentioned way back in thread one or two.

Top find @weegielass ! Have a medal🏅. In fact, have a professorship!

I shouldn't be suprised but i am in awe of the women in this group, having joined mumsnet with a baby scan 2014, peaked 2020 and now relocated to NI, I salute you all.

I found the News and Press pages from the archived RE3 Group website interesting.

I reckon DB contracted a local PR agent to write these articles (doggartadams) and paid oneworld.org to host it on their site to create a digital footprint.

If DB won an award I don't think it was linked to NIEA (despite the award title given in the press release)

Sustainable Ireland was a small circulation trade mag, run by a business to business publishers 4SM NI. Not in print anymore.

There are other articles on the News and Press page which mention the Sustainable Ireland awards.

I am weegielass, professor of internet sleuthing...

I can't find any course by that name though, just plain 'environmental science'.

I've also tried looking into McKeown. he's got quite a few videos on youtube too but all history related or some chat show (I didn't really watch them). He doesn't seem to have anything concerning about him that I can find. Just the union's approach which is fairly tame in comparison to the biggies in the rUK.

I do know a few trade union folk over here in Scotland and some are lay members on tribunals. The way its meant to work, at least over here, is that there's a lay member from the employers point of view and one from the employees POV (hence TUs).

And when I did a search on Lisa Sturgeon, there's a blog she wrote on her legal firm website about something or other (I forget) but she references a NHS Fife employment tribunal (pre SP but it made me smirk)

Largofesse · 16/11/2025 17:52

I also think the University of Ulster will be fielding many phone calls about this tomorrow!

I wonder if she has the faintest idea what the wims here have been at..

Cailleach1 · 16/11/2025 18:00

Crikey! I wonder if there would be an issue if she identified as a judge and got them to put a nameplate as ‘Judge DB’?

I listened to the first one, and about a third of the second one. She uses the phrase ‘lipstick on a pig’ in the second video. Can definitely bat for herself. I don’t know if there is embellishment there in other things.

I see that an FoI has already been made to Ulster. They seem to have had strict and limited criteria in place around Visiting Professorships going back a long time. I would be v surprised if she hadn't been told clearly at the time what the title meant and how long it would last.

Largofesse · 16/11/2025 18:02

So, based on the EVIDENCE weegielass found, well done again, we can assume the following:

When panel withdrew to consider applications, EJ asked Boyd about the question from NC about her academic credentials. Full of her usual bluster and niaive misunderstanding of academia (easily done to be honest because it is a tricky hierarchy to grasp from the outside) she bats EJ back with afront -- University of Ulster made me a visiting prof in...'

EJ immediately realises the problem and suggests Boyd might want to recuse herself on the grounds of ill-health.

Boyd doesn't get it which is why she gave face to NC on exit.

EJ was too busy trying to find legal back up for her intemperate assertion earlier that MD will be released from her oath over the weekend and not finding any was distracted by realising she'd made a tit of herself so didn't properly clock that Boyd recusing herself is not going to be the end of it. Not by any means,

If the title has been used on any legal documents such as judgements (and I can't find any as the search engines aren't really cut out for searching for panel members. Also, interestingly the drop down menu for judges on the Judiciary NII site in the judgement and decisions page doesn't include Sturgeon although she is listed on the main page near the bottom) then those judgements are up shit creek.

I suspect that the title won't be on any docs though and that no one has questioned her use in other ways because no one has wanted to be the one to embarrass her since she has been using it everywhere for aons.

So if not on docs is ignorance a defence? Yes when it comes to Boyd but not when it comes to due process for the courts.

It would certainly explain the need for two counsel for what might otherwise expected to be a relatively small case!

FallenSloppyDead2 · 16/11/2025 17:54

In the second video at 52:30 she calls herself an employment judge🤔

I feel quite sorry for her on this score.

She left school at 16 and has got herself into a world she doesn't understand and NO ONE has taken the time to tell her. I mean what were the administrators with the ET system fuckin doing by letting her go this far with it.

My feeling sorry for her is because I am feeling vicarious shame and think in certain paths in life this is an easy mistake to make. But it doesn't let her off the hook in how she has handled herself during the ET. That is altogether different.

I do not.

NC went there because EA2010 and thus the Supreme Court ruling do not apply in Northern Ireland.

To win a 'trans activism' tribunal there WITHOUT the mainland laws
will be a serious feather in her cap

AND
JK paying the bills meant she could take Charlotte with her.

The awards for Sustainable Ireland and NI might have different categories. She is full on. Quite a lot of blowing her own horn. She said something like ‘I had a great/brillant idea’. It may be true in instances, but the way she said she was a professor as she had been invited to be a visiting professor makes you wonder a little. Especially if years later she is sitting on a panel in an employment tribunal and has a ‘Professor’ name plate boldly in front of her.

I can’t be 100% certain it is the same [Dr] Deborah Boyd Chairing the Waste Management Advisory Board in 2002. But it’s a wild coincidence if not (and I am sure any other Deborah Boyd’s in this sector would have been identified on these threads by now if that were the case).

Page 79 of the evidence to Parliament she and her colleague are introduced as members of the NI Waste Management Advisory Board.

Szygy · 16/11/2025 18:12

Another gobsmacking moment in amongst many such moments, @weegielass! 🥇

Now there’s just the matter of the now-you-see it-now-you-don't 'Dr' Deborah Boyd….

However, the issue has been identified as due process, or not, at the BFF. Court can find for SM without going anywhere near those areas, and success in such a small matter wouldn’t justify NC’s presence. But it all turns on the panel’s assessment of MD’s credibility, and here ideological bias in the panel would be crucial

I know a fair few people who have misused honorary academic titles and continued to do so long after having their 'confusion' pointed out to them. Leaving school at 16 doesn't mean she is necessarily naive or not smart. She may well have gone a long way precisely because of her willingness to fully exploit every opportunity she comes across.
