The Bluestocking: All You Need to Know About Risk Assessments, Jazz Hands, Battenberg and Sourdough (But Were Afraid to Ask) - and gerbils. Lots and lots of gerbils.

Welcome to The Bluestocking, the perfectly overblown, gloriously chaotic all-women’s pub where you can have a bit of a lie down if you need it.

Expect serious debates on musicals, cake and knitting, and whimsical musings on women’s rights and why the world’s on fire (again), all under the calm supervision of our support staff: gerbils, capybaras, and the occasional quokka on secondment.

The alcohol won’t get you drunk, the pastries won’t make you fat, but the conversation will digress, and that’s the point.

Remember to namechange before posting if you’re sometimes someone else.

Love it. And I can’t blame her.
Did you turn her off though, or leave her burning brightly while you froze beneath your layers on the boat?

MarieDeGournay · 20/11/2025 22:19

How's this, Myrtle? The bargerbil will be along with the Malbec in a moment, meanwhile enjoy the massagerbils😄

While looking through old threads for fun images to recycle, I came across this one😂 which I don't remember seeing first time round - I'd have remembered it!
I've never seen a real Knitted Money in the flesh, so to speak - very cute, and obviously a fan of Tunnocks.

I tried to take the central heating with me but she clung on to her pipes and refused to go

😅😂

That knitted monkey is sitting on one of the two best volumes of poetry ever published.

Swashbuckled · 20/11/2025 22:07

I’m usually rather frugal with the central heating. Not this week though; I have happily become a heating spendthrift!

Steady on! It's only November! Having said that I changed from the 1 tog to the 4.5 tog duvet today when the bed got stripped.

Her cousin the diesel fired version was on board but refused to work at night. (Something to do with the leisure battery’s )

So morning was tough going. The draft from the bedroom door didn't help the curtain wafted in the wind in a concerning manner.

Hedgehogsrightsarehumanrights · 20/11/2025 23:34

Off to bed in a type that requires no unfolding bliss.

Hello Marie 🙂. I liked seeing the Punk Angel further back. I was remembering the post so I could say “It was me!” but somebody else credited me further along 🙂. So pleased you liked it. I remember us discussing your vision and how we did several drafts until we arrived at that one. 🪽

Tired Good Night GIF

Thank you for my Punk Angel Swash - delightful and completely unrealistic, and I still love it.
And I remember the evening you were all coming up with different images for me, I really appreciated all the effort you [plural] put in to it and felt inordinately pleased to be the centre of attentionSmile
And you [singular] came up with a humdingerGrin

G'night Swash g'night all, sleep well and may the Dream Gerbil bring you dreams that do not involve realising you are on the right trainline but going in the wrong direction..Smile

You must have a very warming exoskeleton, Boily, whereas I have minimal pyjamering. I changed from a wool 11tog duvet (a Baavet) to the 13.5 last week, and had 2 fleece blankets on top last night plus the usual hot water bottle.

We had all the windows replaced last winter but the radiator isn’t on in the bedroom.

I'm currently too hot so have the window open. It may take a while to get used to 4.5 tog.11 would be unbearable. I do have a very warm purring cat on top of me which is adding to the heat issue!

I offer you extracts from B Johnson’s handwritten notes. Can you tell what the word in the first picture says? I had to work really hard to see it.
If you click on the pictures one at a time it gives more of the phrase. The answer is given in the last one.

I hope they stay in their current order - pictures don’t show on the preview.

Perfect! 💙

I have woken up aching and tired.

It reminds me that i really am not fully recovered and need to take it easy. I'm just pleased I didn't do two trips- one to hospital and then to my meeting the next day. But probably stopping to see my friend in the way in and staying up chatting to my other friend was a bit much.

Depending on how I feel when I get back from my appo this morning, I may have habe to cry off the live tweeting, but I'll see how I feel.

See! I can't even type properly.

Context should give you most of it. Appo is appointment.

I forgot I came here to show you the family Christmas stockings I knitted.

My DSD's favourite colour is turquoise and I thought when I compared the length of the stocking before knitting the toe that it would be the same length. I forgot that the toe decreases stitches and pulled it in, making it shorter.

I'm going to knit for the Walrus's sister and kids in the very cosy velvety wool, which is lovely to feel as I knit. If I have time I will reknit the turquoise one to be as long as ours. Then I can put this stocking in next year's Woolly Hugs auction.

I am knitting a blue stocking too. I can knit it with or without the white cuff/heel/toe. Do let me know which version might be best for the auction.

The darker red was knitted on 11mm and the other red in 10.5mm - it makes cabling easier, so there is a slight size difference there as well.

Very good! I think the white cuffs look good, somehow makes them more ‘Xmas stocking’ rather than ‘odd sock’Grin

You are wise to think about resting rather than the live tweeting, Myrtle, you've been through a lot - even a trip to That There London - and rest and good food is the fuel you need to get better.
Trust me, I'm a Doctor😁
in fact a Professor of Medicine, that honour was conferred on me by the mere fact of reading the SM v BFF thread!

@MarieDeGournay Do you know about this?

Pace yourself, Myrtle. The stockings are 😍.

Seconded. And I actually am a Doctor of plants

With all these Doctors around, it’s as well you have a nurse (me) here too.

No I didn't know about it! It looks great, I'll keep an eye out for it thank you Android💙

I need a very large cup of very strong tea as I've had such a morning😦

Somebody came to start some scheduled work on my house, and happened upon an underfloor leak.

Apparently it's audible, but only to people with fully functional ears, which I do not have.. It could have gone on for years unnoticed by me. I suppose that's the bright side that I should be looking at😒

I eventually got an appt for Monday morning, after umpteen phonecalls.

Any capybara plumbers available in this area today??

Over here! quickly please, tea-gerbil!😐
