Welcome everyone. Wipe your feet, it's been wet out.

Don't forget to namechange before posting if necessary.

Or Anthony Stewart Head drinking Nescafe.

In his case, the Gold Blend series really was what made him famous

lcakethereforeIam · 09/11/2025 09:11

I had a pair of steel toe capped court shoes <preens>

I am glad that your safety was attended to. Also impressed by the mystery puzzle file drawers.

When I did H&S training in about 2010 we were shown a short film about an aspiring jazz singer who falls down the stairs because of missing signage that the floor was being cleaned and potentially wet, when she hurries from her office job to a concert or rehearsal. I can't remember the details because I was so distracted by trying to figure out who the actress was. Turns out Kate Beckinsale's first starring role was as a victim of insufficient H&S compliance.

I'm chairing our quarterly H&S meeting in December, I don't think I'm brave enough to burst into song.

I worked in construction and also did the inductions for new staff on site so had the pleasure of repeatedly watching films of builders constantly falling off scaffolding only to be impaled by rebar stuck in concrete as they hit the ground.

I think jazz singers (and jazz hands) would have made it slightly more entertaining for me.

One of my pairs of steels has heels. The others are more practical, I promise!

Boiledbeetlejuice · 09/11/2025 10:05

Maud did her thing online last night and found a decent deal.

Which explains the note on the bar.

I think it's going to just be cereal for breakfast, unless someone fancies doing a shift in the pub kitchen.

What I could have done with to avoid toe injuries is steel toe capped slippers (moving household objects) and - entirely impracticably - sailing/windsurfing boots (dropping a small boat on my foot).
Such incidents mean I wouldn’t now be able to wear the heeled shoes anyway.

Capable Clarice has taken over and chivvied any of the menagerie with vaguely opposable thumbs into service.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2025 10:09

I think I’ll make my own brew though to be on the safe side so I may as well do a few.

Much thanks.

Ooooh!

You make a lovely cup of tea.

lcakethereforeIam · 09/11/2025 10:15

Mine weren't sparkly😔

I've been catching an AIBU in the sidebar (i think it's gone now) that's left me with the impression that a poster's brother wants them to have his dog for Christmas dinner! I really should have clicked on it.

I hope Maud and Co. will send us a postcard.

Clarice isn't doing a bad job at all. The chives on the scrambled eggs aren't as finely chopped as usual but otherwise top notch.

It seems much more organised and wholesome than when we catch the gerbils cooking.

Clarice definitely has her staff well trained.

I take it all back. The quokkas have swapped out the marmite for vegemite 😡

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2025 10:25

Where have the quokkas been hiding? Good to see their smiling little faces again.

DeanElderberry · 09/11/2025 10:32

I take it all back. The quokkas have swapped out the marmite for vegemite

Understandable although wrong.

BUT

I have just made the life-transforming discovery that despite the possibility of gluten that cause problems for Coeliacs, marmite does NOT have wheat in it, so I can improve my thiamine intake in the very best, most life enhancing way possible.

Marmite on celery, marmite on toast, marmite on cheese with lettuce leaves.

Has anyone had marmite with avocado?

That is unacceptable behaviour.

Bet they've also tried to tell you that you honestly can't tell the difference.

MarieDeGournay · 09/11/2025 10:34

Morning all, and thanks for the cuppa, Errol. Perfect brew.
Just popping in, not feeling the best yet.
I've been enjoying the wonderful festival of dramatics put on by our own, our very own gerbils👏👏👏
Lots of much-needed laughs, thank you Boily.

On H&S - when I became the only woman in a team, it became obvious that unsafe practices were a form of macho posturing - they competed over lifting heavy items, how quickly could they climb up the shelving in the warehouse - yes climb up, and then throw the item down to a waiting eejit colleague, etc.

Shortly after my arrival, and possibly as a result of the look of horror on my face when I saw how things were done, there were signs put up about the correct way to lift, weights that required a two-person lift, and a fork-lift picker [not ride on, unfortunately] which entertained the lads even more than climbing up the shelving, so I wasn't considered too much of a killjoy!

The presence of one woman meant that it became more of a workplace, and less of a lethal adventure playground for boys.

It's a lovely sunny morning where I am, hope that's widespreadSmile

Edited

No, but you give it a go and report back. (Wouldn't want to waste an avocado this end if it's rank)

Yes they did! They've got such earnest little faces. It's really difficult to stay cross with them.

I might stick with marmalade until normal service is resumed.

I'm always a little sad that I timed and placed my birth in a way that meant I never tasted this delicacy that my father remembered fondly from his own childhood.

There was a limited edition Guinness Marmite some years ago and apparently there are unopened jars on sale for a price.

And are those Christmas lights already on Swashy's galleon in the background?

No I think they are for All Souls Night when the dead are very close to us and the little lights allow us to see between them into the infinite. But that's just my interpretation Bear
