Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is this is the stupidest attack on JK Rowling yet?

Canadians’ eagerness to please has left them hopelessly vulnerable to the #BeKind mantra.

As a result, they sometimes do and say some very silly things. For proof, see the story this week about the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, whose members have issued a tearful public apology – for organising a “magical-themed forest walk” inspired by Harry Potter.

Trans activists were horrified, because Harry Potter was created by JK Rowling. So, to avoid causing them further trauma, the walk has been cancelled. At an emergency meeting, Brennan Bastyovanszky, a park board commissioner, promised to “do better in the future”. Later, his colleague Tom Digby tweeted: “Apologised to TGD2S [Transgender, Gender-Diverse and Two-Spirit] community after emotional discussion. Shared some tears. Disavowed JKR.”

What a bunch of cunts.

dementedpixie · 13/10/2025 18:44

She is gutted at the disavowal!

Is this is the stupidest attack on JK Rowling yet?
TWETMIRF · 13/10/2025 18:45

It's pathetic

lifeturnsonadime · 13/10/2025 18:48

Blimey! Can you imagine being so petty as to make that decision?

Brings to mind one of my favourite series though, Parks and Recreation. Off topic but well worth a watch.

Vancouver TRAs nailed a dead rat to the door of a women only rape crisis centre and successfully lobbied to have their funding removed because of their women only policy.

I always remember that when I read about Vancouver.

Of course that's worse than getting a fun event for children cancelled but it's the same self centred attitude. Ruining everything for everyone if it's not all about you.

What a bunch of cunts.

Hardly feminist to think the worse thing to say about someone you disagree with is that they are female.

But would certainly agree they are a bunch of dicks.

Now that Ms Rowling has been thoroughly disavowed, the people of Vancouver can sleep easy, knowing that, if their children go walking in the woods, they won’t fall under the spell of a wicked witch who will poison their innocent minds with talk of women’s rights.

Grin

Sadly an article like this will only be seen as being "unkind" and affirm that they are kind!

To be clear: the forest walk was meant as a celebration of the character Harry Potter, not his creator’s personal views about gender identity. The trees were not going to be festooned with banners reading “THEY’RE ALL BLOKES” or “THAT LEATHER MICRO SKIRT REALLY DOESN’T SUIT YOU, JEFF”. Nor was the walk specifically intended for trans people. Just people who like Harry Potter.

Haha I do love my Telegraph subscription

I think we both know it doesn't simply mean 'being female'.

However I realise not everyone agrees with using the term as an insult so I do apologise for any offence caused.

What a bunch of cunts.

They are neither deep nor warm so no, they aren't. However, they are a bunch of spawny eyed, parrot faced wazzocks.

Justwrong68 · 13/10/2025 19:27

I guess it’s positive to see TGD2S not joined onto LGB

Come back, laugh emoji!

Sal820 · 13/10/2025 19:31

Oh the horror! Some people really need to work on their resilience and coping skills.

Arran2024 · 13/10/2025 19:32

I don't think it's cancelled. They have issued a grovelling apology to the trans community - "tears were shed" - and they promised it won't happen again and are looking to see how they can make reparations for it. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/vancouver-park-board-harry-potter-forbidden-forest-event-apology-j-k-rowling-9.6934732

Worriedandsuspicious · 13/10/2025 19:33

Honestly 🙄

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 13/10/2025 19:37

Bring on the fainting couches and extra large handkerchiefs.

What a truly sad bunch of people.

Datun · 13/10/2025 19:41

Ffs, i'll never understand how people got to be quite this fucking pathetic.

midgetastic · 13/10/2025 19:48

We have the pub on knoydart cancelling a Harry Potter themed party - guess that’s a pub to avoid then

because someone says JKR is transphobic and no one engages their brain - just say oh yes must be true then

I hadn't realised that.

But now I am wondering if in fact this hasn't been a clever undercover operation by secretive Canadians terfs who will now they can attend the event free of TRAs.

Unless of course there will be pickets at the entrance from TRAs some of whom will no doubt dress up in Harry Potter costumes having (by Potter magic) made them Rowling free.

I've said it before and I will say it again. JK's Harry Potter gives hours of enjoyment to the children with complex disabilities that I work with. Loads of them can't get enough of those tales. That is what matters . Those eeigits are pathetic . ( Oh and the latest Strike... What an ending !)

ErrolTheDragon · 13/10/2025 20:07

‘Emergency motion’ ffs😂

Reading the Canadian link makes me wonder, is there any pro-women’s rights platform in Canada?

inamo · 13/10/2025 20:10

No wonder Canada is refusing to become Trump's 51st State. It's all JKR and HP's fault Donald. Honest.

AramintaWildbloode · 13/10/2025 20:16

What on earth does “two spirit” refer to?

Is this symbolising male and female in one body? Surely not as that would mean admitting they aren’t entirely ladies.

Fancy crying over this crap.

I didn’t cry when I was told I have cancer. You just have to crack on.

How will these nutters survive the knocks of life if they sob about hurty feelings due to somebody liking someone they don’t like?

Smelling salts will be making a comeback.

hholiday · 13/10/2025 20:19

The stories of Harry Potter will last for generations. The trans fad – another five years in sensible countries? Maybe another 10 in the more misogynistic nations like Canada, Spain and Australia where it is more deeply embedded.

SinnerBoy · 13/10/2025 20:24

If you object to the c word, there's always "unwiped arsehole."

(Thanks, Gran!)
