I thought this deserved a thread of its own. It seems women meeting together to discuss feminism and issues affecting them are deliberately provacative.

It sounds like she thinks Brighton should be 'identified' as a no go area for reality, and anyone who wants to bring some in should be harassed and hounded until they take that crappy reality away.

Is this Sian Berry the MP - whose letter in reply to safeguarding issues in Brighton schools, where boys who ID as girls are allowed in the girls' changing rooms etc, basically said 'bugger off'?

DiaAssolellat · 11/10/2025 23:13

Total nutjob

It's sad that the Green Party are captured by trans. I voted for a Green local councillor a couple of years ago before I woke up to what's been going on. Then wrote to her to say why I couldn't vote for her again. No reply.

It is ridiculous. The rest of the world have finally woken up to what the Green Party was trying to tell them 20 years ago. This should be their moment to take the lead on Climate Change as they really are the experts.

Instead they are running around trying to ensure that certain special men get to watch teenage girls getting undressed.

Yes it's silly and tragic!

She’s not gen z, she’s older than me!

Oh I mean she's a zoomer like off her rocket, not Generation Z. My daughter has just explained to me that her generation get called "zoomers", lol. Yeah, she's older than me too, I think or about same age !😀

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/10/2025 01:12

Haha 😂 amusing crossed wires

I am glad you highlighted this @Theeyeballsinthesky. I'd like to say it's an unbelievable response, but sadly it isn't.

As for the idea that choosing Brighton was deliberately provocative, Brighton has been a conference venue for years. Conferences are an important source of revenue, especially in seaside locations and, as one of the city's MPs, she should be encouraging organisations to use it.

Aha yes, I'd have said she's a space cadet 😊

It's been difficult for Jewish women to stay safe, apparently there has been an incredible amount of antisemitism from speakers inside the conference.

That is an exaggeration, there has apparently been one incident of a speaker making pro Palestine comments (not that that makes it OK either, but I think its important to not spread misinformation and the conference certainly hasn't been a hotbed of antisemitism, from what I've seen).

Sian Berry's comments were atrocious.

I think you might need to review this! After last night's fighting at the disco.

I wasn't there... what happened?

I heard someone got chucked out for having a Palestinian flag and rightly so.

But the behaviour of one or 2 idiots isn't the same as 'Several speakers making antisemitic comments'. It doesn't help matters to exaggerate.

Edit to add: I'm not saying pro palestine automatically equals idiot, I mean it was a disco, leave your politics at the door.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 12/10/2025 13:51

Thanks - I was about to suggest FoI requests go through here so the response is public.

I’m here. I’m not Jewish. Antisemitism is rife I’m afraid. I was by the stall for the older feminist network, signing up for their mailing list. The woman behind the desk was in discussion with a few others and she said (paraphrased because I was so shocked) that she didn’t dispute rapes had happened but they were being “weaponised” to make Hamas look evil.

needless to say I didn’t sign up to their newsletter……

Oh no, that's pretty awful 😞

However (again, I'm absolutely not condoning it) there's a difference between what's said by some delegates and what is officially the filia position / what's encouraged.

When you get a few thousand people all together in one place, some will say offensive things, some will behave like twats.

I'm not writing off the entire event over the actions of a few.

This is what happens when people insist on seeing everything in terms of "systemic" oppression instead of what is actually happening between individuals. You get cognitive dissonance, and either you have to admit that the oppressors/oppressed model is inadequate and misleading or you end up, absurdly and despicably, construing rapists as "punching up" if they pick the right sort of victim. It's an absolute gift to male supremacists of various kinds.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 12/10/2025 15:01

I agree there's a huge difference between individuals and an official conference position. I doubt (and sincerely hope it isn't) the latter. One of the events (on endometriosis, I think) had the 'bring them home' yellow ribbons on all the chairs.

Good to hear, the Omnicause adherents need to know they're not getting it all their own way, that there are people who stand with Israel, and the truth of the barbarity that was perpetrated against Israel on Oct 7th, and continues to be perpetrated against them 2 years on.

The yellow ribbon is also the symbol for endometriosis….
