I've been through arguably worse than Glinner largely due to my involvement in this debate and don't feel the need for others to recognise me, although of course, it's a nice bonus if and when they do.

He told my partner that it was a good thing when TRAs attacked her e-shop since it created attention. Well, she had to rebuild it and lost income placing her in a far more precarious situation than Glinner. I wonder why he doesn't think it's a good thing when he's attacked? Poor, vulnerable, victimised, heroic, Graham nobly speaking out for all women.

What happened? How did he attack the e shop?

sandgreen · 19/08/2025 08:48

Rowling hasn't mentioned him one way or the other. Maybe she's seen the way he's behaved to other people who have also suffered for speaking up - Kathleen Stock, Helen Lewis, Jesse Singal to name a few.

While I find it a bit surprising that over the years she has never chosen to flag up any article/ his book/ the musical the way she does with other adjacent injustices, Glinner’s social media use has always been erratic. I support him and like him but Twitter is no good for him.

I don’t think JKR could even offer him support privately as I think he would likely put it all out there at some point. He will still call people out on Twitter for their silence, or say they’ve talked in private about something and I’ve never thought it the best approach.

The support she’s giving John Boyne after the ‘journey’ of his relationship with GL and over to our side must smart though, I’ll give him that.

Mermoose · 19/08/2025 10:28

I agree with you sandgreen. But the whole thing with John Boyne is just another illustration of his behaviour - when Boyne first voiced support for Rowling, Glinner didn't welcome it. He accused Boyne of supporting Rowling only because she was famous and could be useful to him. He ignored the fact that Boyne had already supported Rachel Rooney.

Toseland · 19/08/2025 10:49

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/08/2025 01:13

Who told you that?

I think I've heard it from Glinner years ago in an interview.

It's a consistent problem with his approach, and at his age I'll say it's baked in. I don't want to relitigate ancient Irish controversies, or whatever the hell Gamergate was all about, but he takes up a cause, follows it obsessively, jumps in with the subtlety of a bull in a china shop, and divides all players into good guys who are on Team Glinner and bad guys who are to be smashed.

To be fair he's capable of reflecting on his behaviour, and making amends when he thinks he's wronged someone, but this might not be sufficient if he's been calling you a nazi for the past ten years.

I don't know what JKR is thinking, but in her place there are a few things I'd consider. One is that if you offer him support privately he will make it public, and mention it frequently. Another is that if you're on Team Glinner, you will get dragged into all his personal beefs whether you like it or not. And he doesn't seem to realise that, by constantly asking why she isn't publicly supporting him, he's putting her in a very difficult position.

TLDR: Graham doesn't really do subtle, and he's apt to see himself as the Main Character with little consideration for his impact on others.

There are (a very few) people I dislike on the gender critical side of the debate.
There are those who have methods I find questionable.
There are people who I believe sometimes do more harm than good.
There are those who I disagree with on almost every other subject.
There are some who I sometimes privately wish would shut up.
There are people who I believe should speak more often and more clearly.
There are GC supporters who have done questionable things in the past ...

... I don't care. Anyone who is fighting trans ideology in the way they think is best is ok with me for the moment - I'd buy each of them a drink if I met them. We can do infighting when this dangerous movement is defeated - for the moment I appreciate everyone who is on our side.

Weneedmoreheretics · 20/08/2025 09:31

I agree but he was a bit childish “ she didn’t support (and therefore save me) me, when she stood by all those women I’ve been standing up for. Don’t give to receive and you won’t be disappointed! So male.

Duckyfondant · 20/08/2025 09:56

Someone needs to give this man a good job! His shows were flipping hilarious, plus it would keep him busy and less likely to over share/post.

Twitter became his procrastination/distraction, just before he became involved with the trans stuff Count Arthur Strong had been dropped and The Walshes wasn't renewed for a second series by the BBC.

He's quite happy to be earning £100k+ a year from his substack (written by unpaid women) and sitting on X all day.

Justwrong68 · 20/08/2025 12:45

Not real.

I keep seeing this 'he gets 100k plus a year from substack' - where has it come from?

Mermoose · 20/08/2025 13:13

Someone has given him a job, he's working on a sitcom with Andrew Doyle. He was always very online, no matter how things were going.

There's two interviews in The Times, in the first he says how many paying subscribers he has, this determined that he was earning ~£85k pa at that point. In this first interview he claimed that he need to double that to be comfortable and money was still a worry to him.
In the second interview a year later he expressed that he now no longer needed to worry as his substack was perfoming well - therefore it can be deduced he's probably earning somewhere nearer £150k pa.

Why are you not sure it's true?
I've met Glinner in person and he seems like a thoroughly decent chap.

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/08/2025 00:53

He's also blames his in-laws for his divorce. His Ex wife has maintained a dignified silence on the matter.

A lot of thoroughly decent chaps lie, or are in denial about how their relationships end. I think Glinner is one of them.Sad

Whoismadeline · 14/11/2025 14:46

Hi all, I'm new to mumsnet but very much not new to the gender wars. I've been a TERF for a very long time. I came here to see if anyone had been discussing Graham Linehan's blatantly racist tweet yesterday, and to see whether people are ready to acknowledge the malign and toxic presence he is in this movement.

Yesterday's tweet was particularly shocking, but he's been actively malicious, vindictive and harmful to to this movement for years now. Gender critical women have tolerated, enabled and encouraged this because he gave them permission to hate a bunch of women he decreed to be not as good a feminist as he is. The best time for the gender critical movement to distance themselves from him was five years ago. The second best time is now.

SwordToFlamethrower · 14/11/2025 15:10

He's literally a comedy writer, writing comedy on Twitter, back rhe times before the madness. I'm a radfem now, extremely vocal and I've been on several protests and events. In 2012 I used to scream TWAW and was even in a documentary about a TW.

People can change. People change with the times.

I completely agree. The man’s a disgrace. JKR showed great prescience in (mostly) ignoring him!

Happily shared a stage with Rod Liddle.
Ridiculed Meret Schneider, a woman with severe anorexia.

I've no time for the man.

Glinner is a flawed person.

This means I need to shift my position and now to support the medical castration of children.

Thanks for letting me know. Without your intervention I might have continued to be committed to safeguarding.

Same here. I previously thought Glinner was an archangel sent by God to lead misogynistic men gently back to the path of common decency. I am appalled to hear that that he is actually just a human being. I will now start a fund for castrating children and amputating teenaged girls' breasts.

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/11/2025 23:43

Glinner is not a disgrace🙄
JKR is not a disgrace.

Both of them are great. Not perfect but brilliant in their own way. Just like the rest of us.
