How many “cis” male members of staff do you suppose would approach teenage girls in the lingerie department?

I saw a clip once where a man went and asked directions from some young teenage girls, surrounded by adults. A woman had a go at him because there is no reason for him to approach them, especially when there were adults, who could answer better.
men will always do this shit.

I’ve had it with M&S after being their customer for decades. They are so contemptuous of the feelings of women - their main customers - that I’m done.

I complained at the customer service desk at M&S Cribbs Causeway, Bristol about 5 years ago now, because I came out of one of their female changing cubicles with my blouse undone to check some trousers in the bigger mirror, and there was a bloke lounging on a chair right outside my cubicle in the ladies changing room
waiting for his partner. So he got a right eyeful and I was v embarrassed. And furious.

There were no signs at all in the ladies changing room giving the ladies any warning that men were allowed in, so I was shocked to see him. I complained at the customer service desk who told me they were “sorry I was upset” but it was their policy. So I complained to their head office but never received a response.

I see from this story that nothing has changed. I should have sacked them off five years ago but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but they have shown their true colours and their contempt for me (loyal female customer) too many times.

TLDR Fuck off M&S, you’ll get no more custom from me until you place my rights and needs on a level with the men that you prefer to appease.

Back in the day a friend of mine was rejected by M&S for a customer facing role because she 'wasn't attractive enough'. M&S have been contemptuous of women for decades

When was this???

No insults or anything but I've never noticed M&S staff to be more attractive overall than average. They're just a normal bunch of people, with some inevitably being above or below average.

NeverOneBiscuit · 05/08/2025 21:07

This is yet another example of the success of mangled language. If ‘transwoman’ hadn’t been invented, & this group of men were simply referred to as men (& he/him not she/her) it would be harder for people to gaslight themselves & others.

I don’t believe any of the apologists on here really believe the M&S man is actually a women, because he dresses differently & makes claims about himself. However, armed with a word that suggests there is a category of woman that includes men, wrong sex pronouns, & thought stopping phrases such as beKind, trans rights are human rights, we just want to pee, etc, it’s possible with lazy thinking to look virtuous & cool.

We’re talking about men, always. Dr ‘Beth’ Upton, ‘Isla’ Bryson, ‘India’ Willoughby, ‘Karen’ White, Eddie ‘Suzy’ Izzard. The trove of magic words has created ridiculous situations where people, often women, are arguing that it’s fine for a man to ask a female child if she’d like help with buying a bra, because of special men’s feelings.

Heimbach · 05/08/2025 21:13

I've written to M&S - complained about Ayr and also changing rooms.

I'm fed up with them.

“I am the mum in this incident. I've seen a few comments saying I should go to the police. Social Work said the same. I tried. Police Scotland said my daughter should learn to say a polite no! Welcome to SNP Scotland in 2025 ”

So the teenager has to have resilience but not the man. The teenager has to not feel discomfort and push down that discomfort so a man can feel better.

This is fucked.

Sad thing is I’ve always wanted to support them as a mainstay high street British business. In fact I was all set to give them extra custom to help them recover from their recent Cyber incident.

But honesty, when a business treats your views, dignity and safety with such contempt over years and years, there comes a point when customer loyalty is destroyed. That’s what has happened to me, and I am telling all my friends and family too (who have been shopping at M&S down Bristol way forever).

And I damn well hope M&S are reading this thread to understand how angry their customers are.

Milliejacksonhouseforsale · 05/08/2025 21:39

How to piss off your mainstay customer base in one fell swoop.

BeLemonNow · 05/08/2025 21:41

At least M&S apologised and didn't try to claim transwomen are women. It feels like some sort of progress...

Ideally though the staff member should be sacked. Perhaps they will be.

Ohh - monitors.

How dare we suggest that the men mentioned upthread wearing a bright pink dress and pursuing the underwear section for breasts he doesn’t have may have additional motives?

This is awful and so depressing. And M&S response is “Ring us before she comes in next time and we’ll make sure she gets the service she deserves” - WTF, so now you have to give prior notice to say a woman is coming to the bra department, to give them chance to get their perving staff out?? What a mess that M&S really can’t afford.

Yep - we won’t be bothering with that or any other purchases M&S if you’re watching

What crime exactly is it is that they would be reporting?

Heimbach · 05/08/2025 22:57

From what I read he shouldn't have been in the section and went over to the girl but didn't realise her mother was there. 6'2" male.

nolongersurprised · 05/08/2025 23:00

Allowing men to work in women’s lingerie is an odd stance from M&S overall.

Its core shoppers are, presumably, middle-aged women (and their daughters). Not the cool young things who believe there are 70 plus genders. Middle-aged women are less likely to tolerate men in their spaces and they are more likely to have money to spend. More so than the Reddit crew.

what do M&S gain from this?

What a low bar you set for male behaviour and female rights.

Heimbach · 05/08/2025 23:03

I don't know nolongersurprised. The fitting room in the ladies clothes section at my local store has large images of female models at the entrance - you'd think it was for women. Turns out it's unisex as anyone can use it. The men's section has images of men at the entrance. You'd think they were single sex but they're not.

the Grammar girls got the jobs at M&S. the Comp ones worked in BHS, like me

Shouldn't have been in the store offering help to customers? Do we have any confirmation this person was trans?
