Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms, the home of good company, excellent drinks and delicious cakes which magically have no irksome contents like gluten or sugar or calories or the kind of alcohol that causes problems - but you wouldn't knowSmile

Food and drink are served by a keen staff of gerbils, and other animals such as capybaras, quokkas, etc., also fulfil vital roles, while looking cute AF.

New Bluestockingers always welcome.

On a recent Gardeners Question Time I heard they are a considered a rare exotic plant with their wonderful clocks in Singapore, with seeds being sold online and dandelion artworks in the airport!

Well, I never knew that. A very intelligent someone I know and love said recently that she was relatively old when she realised that the plants with yellow flowers and the ones with puffy white tops were related.

It's a women's pub, with gerbil staff, therapy animals ( red panda, capybara) useful goats and pigs and all the cake cheese and drinks you need.

Its also a safe space ( bearing in mind this is t'internet) when real life intrudes.

Fill yer boots.

I seem to remember that cropping up in one of those ‘things I never realised till today’ threads too. Grin

There was an important ‘if’ in the ‘umble pie’ post.
I think Bambi is safe.

Duh me lol

Bannedontherun · 04/06/2025 19:11

I just went on a wild google chase over my misreading 😂

I prefer them that way, it's always handy to have somewhere to grab a quick snooze. If they are too small a size I have to lie on them rather than in them!

😂

???

I know the menu is very long and it takes a while to decide what to have but have you decided what you want yet as Gladys goes off shift in five minutes.

Truly, if Gladys is in one of her moods you're better to wait until Gypsophila comes on duty. Better service, better attitude, much less chance of the plate hitting the table so hard the food goes flying. A quokka will be very happy to bring you a drink while you decide.

@Inky Tsk. It's folk like you who're responsible for all the people who, when I tell them that I am vegetarian, then ask ‘Do you eat fish?’

@ErrolTheDragon Re dandelions: I've heard something similar, but I'm slightly sceptical as dandelions’ traits (generalist; prolific seed production; long distance dispersal; long-lived; resilient against grazing; regrowth from damaged rootstock) make them likely to be highly successful, persistent colonisers* more or less anywhere. That said, this Scottish nursery sells seed for four of the c. 3000 species recognised by Kew so some people are obvously keen. For comparison consider the amazing variety of Hepatica japonica (small subset thereof) cultivars that have been developed to cater to the Japanese enthusiasm for that species.

*One possible definition of a weed - I think it's actually a pretty good alternative to ‘plant in the wrong place’.

P.S. Yes, I'm a plant nerd!

DeanElderberry · 04/06/2025 20:20

‘plant in the wrong place’ does my head in

Turbochook · 04/06/2025 20:22

Bah. Tried to edit spelling mistake and now it's spitting the dummy over the list of Hepaticas

Oh Gladys is definitely in one of her moods, and is currently on her third after work Gin and tonic down at the Staunch Ally.

Gerald is wishing he hadn't swiped right.

EdithStourton · 04/06/2025 20:44

I am so missing the laugh emoticon. Poor Gerald. Personally I find Gosie is one of the most helpful of the gerbils. Good little peacemaker without being a pushover.

Greetings and welcome to Slothtoes and JK987.

Happy anniversary to Fuzzy. Sand eels and champagne 🍾 this evening?

I have an interview tomorrow for a sort-of job that I sort-of want and have been busy today working out how I have ever built knowledge in innovative ways when under pressure while still maintaining quality of output... post-implementation review...blah blah headache.

In between times, I have been soothing a bruised ego on a committee I'm on. I bloody hate committees. Why am I on so many?

I'm now going to watch crap on Prime and do some crochet. And maybe ask a passing gerbil for a pint of full-fat Ghostship.
