Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms, the home of good company, excellent drinks and delicious cakes which magically have no irksome contents like gluten or sugar or calories or the kind of alcohol that causes problems - but you wouldn't knowSmile

Food and drink are served by a keen staff of gerbils, and other animals such as capybaras, quokkas, etc., also fulfil vital roles, while looking cute AF.

New Bluestockingers always welcome.

Giant wombat is concerned about the working time directive. The gerbils have been working for at least 12 hours by now and need a sleep, or some downtime or they will be rude tomorrow. And we can't have that.

Giant wombat brought a teacake to pacify Boily, but she doesn't look pacified.

You think I can be pacified with one teacake? One?

Now a six pack yes, but one?

Bannedontherun · 11/06/2025 21:44

Go on give the gerbils a teacakes (no snowballs mind)

FuzzyPuffling · 11/06/2025 21:51

Sometimes I see a photo on SM and I know exactly where to share it.

Swans going to the pub in Sligo.

Been brushing up on my knitting as I think it’s been years since I did it. These are easy/intermediate using just knit and pearl! Done 5 squares for my DD’s blanket. Am thinking the designs will work well in the finer wools that have been suggested for Squashie’s?

Yes lovely very neat and even…

lcakethereforeIam · 11/06/2025 22:51

They're beautiful.

I hope those swans didn't have a skinful. They get fighty.

Boiledbeetle · 11/06/2025 23:14

I've told the gerbils they can have a lie in until 6.30am tomorrow. They probably do need the extra hour after all their efforts today.

They are obviously shattered. Germaine never even made it into bed.

These are easy/intermediate

?!?
No fucking way are they "easy"!

I have never even been able to get wool to stick on a knitting needle long enough to deploy needle No. 2. Those squares are not easy!

Beautiful work by the way 😍

This kind of answers a question I had: I can do patterns for the plain coloured squares? They don't have to be plain colour and plain structure?
How do you do the pattern on the left, Lurky?

EdithStourton · 12/06/2025 07:33

Lovely squares, Lurky.

I was out last night. Half a dozen women, wine and elderflower cordial, and a lot of hilarity. So, sadly, I missed the gerbils flying through the evening sky.

Today's missions:
Make tea for workmen (house undergoing necessary overhaul)
Order wool (tried in a shop the other day, no joy)

I’ve just had a nice few minutes with my first Brew finding videos of sammy the seal on YouTube and then of course being lured into watching other cute critters.

Do you know, I just assumed we could do patterns? Maybe I need to find the original thread and post to ask? Which colour square did you mean - the pale grey/1st on left? I can post the knitting instructions a bit later, if you like?

Chersfrozenface · 12/06/2025 08:16

Just popping in for a drink that cheers but not inebriates before finishing the tasks on the to-do list.

I've been packing, away, unpacking, washing, ironing, packing, away, on repeat for a bit. I'm off again tomorrow, hoping to get in some actual drinks at some point. Going to a place much linked, especially by the tourist office, with pirates, so will be thinking of Swashy a good deal.

And will hunt out the knitting needles once I'm back.

I think patterns make sense because patterns are often a bit sturdier than "glatt gestrickt" or whatever you call that in English (all knit one side, purl back). I'm lacking English knitting lingo.

LOL I think anything where you don’t have to knit together, yarn over needle, etc or cable stitch feels easy. LOVE cable knitting but have to concentrate and I seem to be very distractible these days !

We call it sticking stitch in English?

It’s stocking stitch!
