Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms, the home of good company, excellent drinks and delicious cakes which magically have no irksome contents like gluten or sugar or calories or the kind of alcohol that causes problems - but you wouldn't knowSmile

Food and drink are served by a keen staff of gerbils, and other animals such as capybaras, quokkas, etc., also fulfil vital roles, while looking cute AF.

New Bluestockingers always welcome.

Next up we have cucumber jousting. Gussie and Geraldine are up next, but are just getting a bit of practice in.

I was down wind of the tent when 'Burn the Herb' started, I'm feeling a little woozy 🥴

The pygmy hogs are collecting the used and abused vegetables. They won't go to waste.

Zzzzzzzzz....

This isn't going to end well.

Wake up cake before they eat too much.

The final morning at the hotel and I spotted a single feather on the floor. It was like a lightbulb went on above my head.

I have had a mild chest infection which gave me asthma but my inhaler was of little use. So I've been more anxious and tired as my wheezing hasn't stopped.

Seeing the feather made me realise I've been sleeping on feather pillows for 10 nights, which I suspected on day one but didn't want to make a fuss. 🤦‍♀️

I am severely allergic to feathers which explains my chronic asthma - which I made worse by having a snooze every late afternoon and sleeping for hours.

I feel like a fool.

I am therefore supervising the midday ban the beans bath competition. It should be peaceful enough for me to recover.

Though I think Boily has her crocs on backwards and isn't submerged by the beans as expected.

Hopefully you can get a nice hypoallergenic pillow from now on to make you feel better.

Gussie wins on points and is through to the final against Gaynor.

😂Jousting gerbils on pygmy pigs!!!!

I didn't know this was missing in my life until now. And yes, I want the laugh emoji back.

Boiledbeetle · 11/06/2025 12:28

And the winner of the guess the number of beans competition is...

Woley, were you out having a howl?

If I am going to howl, I do it indoors, from the comfort of my chair - because I am a lazy, achey Wolef, @FuzzyPuffling.

I have found a pattern to knit a tiny sock - it's meant as a Christmas tree decoration - but I reckon if I do one in blue, and sew it to a square, it will represent the Bluestocking for Swashy. I'm just waiting for the postman to deliver my yarn, and I can get going.

Though it may be after the weekend - we are off to exotic England, to visit ds1 and family - we are giving them a climbing frame, for dgd1's birthday and Christmas, and the twins Christmas, and maybe presents for next year too - it's a big, wooden one with space for three swings, and a climbing wall and a slide, so it should keep them all occupied and happy.

We are going down so dh can help ds1 and his FIL build the behemoth, while Ddil and I cuddle the babies.

And Gussie wins the cucumber jousting after Gaynor took a tumble in the final joust.

Well done Gussie.

How many limbs does Gaynor have and what happened to her armour?

Thank you! The pillows were all flat and wrong in any case. Tonight I have my very gorgeous very springy very much polyester single pillow in my very comfortable bed. For now, I am drinking cava in the airport lounge. And my breathing is easing.

I'm told, as wasn't there to witness the event as I was washing off bean juice, that Gaynor lost her armour in the previous rather vicious cucumber jousting from Gussie, and she doesn't like to talk about the limb thing (she made the mistake of entering android's secret lab half way through an experiment and got caught in the limb accelerator, despite the massive 'warning: Do not enter. Limb accelerator in progress' sign on the door.)

<ruefully sticking on a plaster>

Never doze off near a bunch of gerbils with the munchies!

Boiledbeetle · 11/06/2025 12:52

If everyone would like to make their way to the turnip throwing field the gerbils are ready to serve lunch and have also prepared some rooms for everyone's afternoon snooze, after all only mad dogs and English men go out in the midday sun and we are neither of those!

Ah yes, these things happen when you ignore warning signs in labs.
It must have been a viscous fight, even the pig went completely pink.

FuzzyPuffling · 11/06/2025 12:53

What was that sign supposed to say?

It was supposed to say Bluestocking! I think the AI is having a moment!

Boiledbeetle · 11/06/2025 10:14

@EdithStourton did Gosie sort out the betting license? Or do I need to confiscate the gerbils pocket money? They are definitely placing bets. Young Glavia is favourite to win apparently.

Gosie is VERY law-abiding. But licensing laws don't apply to the Bluestocking.

Did the limb accelerator grow an extra leg or just make the existing one grow veeeeery long and bendy? Is it reversible, if not can she get physio to help her adjust?

My source is also doing that: I think two similar squares will be better than one. She also plans to put a tiny teddy (for Ted) in the stocking but that was an afterthought so she didn’t order any brown yarn.

All the vegetable and fruit enthusiasts who don't want to see wicked waste makes woeful want going on in front of our very eyes can take refuge in the walled garden (to the left of the path up to the capybara pool, access through the stable yard, past the rehearsal space and the cabaret bar).

Maybe the capybaras could invite the beavers down for a (still very fresh) chopped, minced, and mangled feast in the late afternoon.

No MN, that is not a sensitive image.

Love a walled garden! Though I think it needs brightening up with some companion planting.
