Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms, the home of good company, excellent drinks and delicious cakes which magically have no irksome contents like gluten or sugar or calories or the kind of alcohol that causes problems - but you wouldn't knowSmile

Food and drink are served by a keen staff of gerbils, and other animals such as capybaras, quokkas, etc., also fulfil vital roles, while looking cute AF.

New Bluestockingers always welcome.

Bannedontherun · 10/06/2025 22:11

I am also fed up as @MarieDeGournay on all the rubbish circulating on FWR. The TRAs are back.

i might post about it

MyrtleLion · 10/06/2025 22:29

We had sweet pickled onions in vinegar while here. We have actually asked for the recipe.

Onions fried low and slow in butter.
Then slowly boiled in white wine vinegar.

Delish.

Fwah that sounds good <salivates>

JanesLittleGirl · 10/06/2025 22:51

Reading this thread, I have realised that I really don't do vegetables. The only one that I like is onions.

Re the Woolly Hugs blanket for dearest Swashy, I have been asked to ask if Bluestocking people think a pirate flag on its own would make a suitable square. That would be in addition to the ship and a blue stocking. Apparently the aim is to make 99 squares in total, so it’s not being greedy to make three patterned ones. If not, the person asking can just make more plain ones.

Thoughts?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/06/2025 00:23

I wondered about the pirate flag but is the symbol really appropriate? No objection to the number of squares produced.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/06/2025 00:24

What would my food of the gods be? Maybe homemade Singapore noodles when I get the balance of sauce to noodle right & coat them properly, & they become like velvet. Mmmmm....

That’s what I wondered. I have seen the flag in some of the drawings here, but a minority. I’ll advise not.

The Strawberry Moon, Somewhere in England, pictures taken about an hour apart.
I do appreciate there’s no comparison with Myrtle’s.

Gerbil holding a cup of tea.

Didn't know what you guys were talking about, so I googled &... yeah, I don't think I'll risk it.

That source is being a bit mean to Apiaceae which also includes parsley and carrots dill and and celery and fennel and many other edible and delicious plants. And angelica. And parsnips. What could be lovelier?

DeanElderberry · 11/06/2025 07:04

I didn't realise it was full moon. No wonder I couldn't sleep.

And chervil, I love chervil, sadly so do our local slugs.

DeanElderberry · 11/06/2025 07:15

That's a good call, I think I have seeds. Sweet Cicely.

DeanElderberry · 11/06/2025 07:16

Aniseed.

Igneococcus · 11/06/2025 07:23

Oh yes, aniseed. We Lower Frankonians have a Christmas cookie with aniseed, called Anisli (or Anisle in the the singular)..
I was going to say salsify/scorzonera but that's an Asteraceae.

DeanElderberry · 11/06/2025 07:48

Lovage, no summer potato salad complete without it.

It's such a glorious day I thought we'd get an early start on our 'vegetables are the work of the devil' demonstration.

I've roped in a couple of capybaras who are currently setting up at various locations around the pub and grounds.

We have a full day of activities ahead.

Will you be joining us for the turnip throwing at 9am? Maybe the cauliflower bullseye archery at 10? How about entering the midday beans should be banned bath competition? I personally will be sat in an old bath tub that is slowly filled with various beans. Whoever guesses the correct number of beans used to fill the tub will win the squashed box of Snowballs I found after we moved from thread 2.

There will be plenty of activities throughout the day, culminating in a fantastic display of firing gerbils from the canon on Swash's galleon. Each gerbil will represent a different vegetable. I just need to find 40 more gerbil volunteers.

I like both, there isn't a fruit or a vegetable I don't eat, also pretty much all herbs and spices.
