Welcome to the Bluestocking Arms, the home of good company, excellent drinks and delicious cakes which magically have no irksome contents like gluten or sugar or calories or the kind of alcohol that causes problems - but you wouldn't knowSmile

Food and drink are served by a keen staff of gerbils, and other animals such as capybaras, quokkas, etc., also fulfil vital roles, while looking cute AF.

New Bluestockingers always welcome.

I'm about to leave the house!!

I don't want to though!

Oh how prophetic the look on my face in that picture turned out to be.

I won't go into all the ins and outs of today's visit as that would out me to the many people in the waiting room who caught part of the row.

I'm now back at the dentist next week to see the dentist I was meant to be seeing and not the someone else who for mutter mutter mutter reasons was mutter mutter seeing me with no warning instead and refused mutter mutter to lower their mask mutter mutter or even be facing in the direction mutter mutter of the deaf patient in front of them when talking to the patient.

Such fun!

Is this connected to your Tunnock's addiction habit?

Genevieve Gerbil, ever the meticulous maven of molars, adjusts her tiny spectacles and clears her throat. Boiled Beetle lounges nearby in faded lilac Crocs, nibbling the marshmallow dome of a half-squashed Tunnock’s teacake.

“Boiled,” Genevieve begins, twitching her whiskers with earnest concern, “I’ve observed with some alarm your confectionery consumption habits.”

Boiled belches gently. “They calm me,” she mumbles, retrieving a caramel wafer from under a cushion.

“Indeed,” says Genevieve, unfazed. “But did you know the refined sugars in those delectable Scottish snacks can wreak havoc on your enamel? Once the bacteria in your mouth metabolise those sugars, they produce acid. And acid, Boiled, dissolves teeth.”

Boiled looks down at her crocs, as if seeking moral support from the spongey footwear.

“I’d be happy to share my twelve-point dental protocol,” Genevieve offers, pulling a laminated leaflet from her handbag. “It includes brushing twice daily with a fluoride-rich paste, interdental cleaning, and my patented fennel-floss routine. Also, chew parsley.”

“Parsley?” Boiled repeats, confused.

“For breath,” Genevieve nods. “And moral superiority.”

Boiled crunches the caramel wafer thoughtfully. “Would it help if I only ate teacakes on weekends?”

“That would be a start,” says Genevieve kindly, patting her on the shell. “And perhaps invest in some arch support.”

Boiled eyes her Crocs suspiciously. A reckoning is near.

Ooooh that's scarily accurate! Especially the insistence on flossing!

All of which led me to misread a thread title on Feminism: Sex and gender discussions as: NHS DENTAL health hospitals allow criminals to self-identify as women

DeanElderberry · 05/06/2025 11:01

Some nettles some couch some creeping buttercup some Michaelmas daisies some sedums some sycamore seedlings (one 2 metres tall) OUT.

And it's raining so I'm IN, for cocoa+turmeric+black pepper.

shudders Remind me never to accept an invitation to stay at Deano's. What with all that & the 'no water when the electricity goes off', it sounds a bit stern & bracing for a wimp like me.

Narrator: Android will never be invited to stay at Dean Elderberry's.

Don't worry Android, that's just for my achy knees, I wouldn't expect anyone else to drink it. I have even been known to provide guests with a choice of alcoholic beverages. Though not usually at 11 o'clock in the morning.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/06/2025 16:02

Oh dear, Boily! Maybe this will cheer you up. I asked the AI for a beetle with an ear trumpet & it went as well as you might expect.

@DeanElderberry Aargh! I have achy knees, too. In fact, they're about 450 miles past achy by now. Please don't feed me the cocoa with tarmac & the Black Death (I think that's what you said).

MarieDeGournay · 05/06/2025 16:07

Parsley “For breath,” Genevieve nods. “And moral superiority.”
Wonderful, Myrtle😂😂😂

Boily, I had quite a bit of interaction with dentists a while ago, and it wasn't bad at all. Much better than dentists used to be - I think the technology has advanced, needles are much finer and I didn't even feel the injections - honestly, I'm not just saying that.

I still don't like going to the dentist, but I don't feel the same cold dread I used to feel at the very thought of it. I hope you have a New and Improved Dentistry Experience tooSmile

Courage, mon brave! - hey that reminds me - remember there was an outbreak of photos of Foreign Legionnaires ages ago? That was funGrin

When I was a child the dentist didn't give children any anaesthetic for fillings as it was " a waste of money".

He liked pulling teeth out ( for an "overcrowded mouth") with some gas, 10 minutes recovery time, and then you had to walk home. I still have the random gaps...

Peppered tarmac and cocoa might be just what your knees kneed.

I must go and have another nibble at the weeds - your illustration of that is quite accurate but misses the plunging my (gloved) hands deep into the wet soil to grab the roots bit.

I had a tooth removed with the dentist using gas when I was three.

I got a banana afterwards!

DeanElderberry · 05/06/2025 17:23

Crowded mouth!

I have a fairly early memory being put to bed early after (could it really have been FOUR?) extractions, and waking up afterwards and and opening my mouth, which had been full of partially clotted blood that then went all over the bedspread. I wonder did children ever drown in their own blood? It was barbaric.

Horrid little cotton-wool cigarette shaped things really didn't work.

I have achy everything right now. Been at work since far too early this morning and standing up for most of the day. I've gone for a therapeutic application (internal) of fish and chips. Cocoa may be administered later, sans tarmac or Black Death.

Boiledbeetle · 05/06/2025 18:23

I'm beginning to think I've pissed off some mythical deity today.

I've just gone to eat my tea. Sainsbury's have delivered the wrong thing! Now I can cope with most of it, but what the hell is the yellow thing? Tell me it's not pepper! That is just a step too far in my trying to eat something other than chicken nuggets for tea.

Now I've just got to pick out all the yellow stuff, then greet the edamame beans individually then I can start eating my tea

I checked the packaging, it definitely is. I got as far as licking a piece. I can confirm I still don't like pepper

I heard Hello Brenda, Hello Barbara to the tune of “Hello muddah, hello faddah” - the song by Allen Sherman.
