Linzi Smith is granted Judicial Review over police participation in Pride

Good for Linzi. This has big ramifications, is Pride political? If so it affects schools as well.

BREAKING: The Chief Constable of Northumbria must account to the High Court for her active participation in Northern Pride last year. She was warned. She went ahead anyway.

The court has asked if she intends to actively participate again this year. She states that she will.

Now she’ll have to defend her position at a Judicial Review in July. GC women need to feel safe in Northumbria which is why Linzi Smith is bringing the action. Pride is political.”

(I don’t want to derail the thread again but want to say to @RedToothBrushthat after your detailed explanations last week re Pokémon I understand your perspective, and it confirms some of my concerns about the childish assumption of the whole thing. I was in a field with many happy excited gen X ers and couldn’t reply)

I’m still trying to work out if this JR is only applicable to the police or if it could impact other areas of public life?

does anyone know?

would there have to be a context specific JR?

impartiality is the cornerstone of education too in particular.

i am however also really struggling with some of the RSE guidance and kcsie as I’d argue that gendered souls is disinformation

Taytoface · 19/07/2025 08:28

Well this is a bind. Because pride active excludes LGB people who do not believe TWAW, it is political. If Pride is political, whole swathes of organisations will not be able to sponsor or participate including Public services, public bodies and charities (unless they are LGBTQ ones).

So, unless pride becomes properly inclusive, the gravy train stops. I really want someone to write an article clearly asking and answering if Pride is political.

Thanks, ArabellaScott - you saved me the hassle of trying (and probably failing) to link to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, which has that text.

I know someone has written to Ofcom quoting this ruling. Sorry can't remember who or find the tweet.

Had a go at a draft letter for your own force. Link to judgment and say caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ewhc/admin/202…

Please let me know their response. Sarahvphillimore at gmail.com

Pride parade in Newcastle today; some women are out scouting to check rule are followed.

WarriorN · 19/07/2025 10:44

Pride progress flags all over the double decker busses here. One has just gone past my window

SinnerBoy · 19/07/2025 10:51

Oh, we're heading into town later, my daughter needs a new motorbike jacket. If I see anything, I'll report.

WarriorN · 19/07/2025 11:03

No flag at civic centre so far. That’s different

WarriorN · 19/07/2025 11:39

This is the promotional material for northern pride this year by the way.

I don't understand why 'unapologetically visible' seems to be the slogan this year but that being 'outed' is so bad they need certificates to lie about their sex and an act of Parliament with jail and fines for anyone who 'outs' them?

WarriorN · 19/07/2025 12:12

Well the whole thing is a study in mental gymnastics isn’t it.

Talkinpeace · 19/07/2025 12:59

The police can no longer participate in events they are meant to be policing
that are of a political nature.
Tied to the new RSHE rules
and the new EHRC chair
pastel rainbow flag makers will go out of business

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/07/2025 14:55

It’s quite funny reading comments on Reddit and BS about this. “Well, cops shouldn't be at pride because ACAB but we should get to tell them that, not terfs” 🤣

Talkinpeace · 19/07/2025 15:33

Posters on there calling Linzi "millie tant" shows what TRAs think of lesbians

anyolddinosaur · 19/07/2025 18:50

The ruling should apply to any organisation with a public impartiality duty. The civil service is the most obvious but I'd argue local government and schools too.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 19/07/2025 18:51

we believe it's important that the police are present at Pride festivals to be able to listen and learn from the lived experiences of the community

Well, some of the community anyway. We also want the police present to shut the rest of the community up. Especially the pesky lesbians with the gender critical views.

there was an army group walking with a local MP; unsure if TA but either way surely also problematic

Talkinpeace · 20/07/2025 19:02

@WarriorN
Not good form,
but it is not the Army's job to maintain safety on the street
so they are not directly conflicted

The army should not be at any political event

https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2018-10-15/HL10679

And the army has been active in NI since the late 60's
