I'm sure Jolyon knows his stuff when it comes to tax law, but I'm guessing defamation is one of the areas that he hasn't paid much attention to over the years.

Libelling a judge should be a pretty big deal, and I'm not sure Jolyon can get off the hook by saying he's just repeating what he was told by an eminent lawyer who goes to another school.

EweSurname · 17/05/2025 15:14

Well, that wasn’t a very good idea.

loveyouradvice · 17/05/2025 18:23

I have to say I absolutely loved this!!!

Wow!!!! Just unbelievable and I've now watched it 3 times ... like really???

And of course my "be kind" friends are swallowing the line No trans voices were heard hook line and sinker... and are then surprised that a judge didn't know better when I explain it. (Never heard of the value of PR - this is one thing the TRAs are exceptionally good at....)

This is their last hurrah.....

GLP bluesky video
Jolyon & co are projecting massive transwomen onto the front of the Supreme Court.
Brace yourself before clicking the link 😁
Oh my goodness me, I am lost for words.

Good Law Project (@goodlawproject.bsky.social)

One month ago, the Supreme Court made a ruling that rolled back trans rights in the UK It made this decision without listening to a single trans voice Today, to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, we’re bringing t...

He's spent most of today on bluesky shroud-waving about child suicide, he took a small break earlier to libel one of the SC judges.
Does he have no normal friends left now?

I’m not sure how this is within the code of conduct for a KC, even if not practising.

Surely the main thing you don’t do is malign judges like this.

SionnachRuadh · 17/05/2025 18:42

If Jolyon were a football coach and his team lost a crucial game and he took to social media to speculate that the ref was bent, there would be consequences.

Just saying.

TheOtherRaven · 17/05/2025 19:06

I agree. But this particular topic seems to come with no accountability of any kind. The Nolan principles for example have been repeatedly breached with no kind of professional come back.

SionnachRuadh · 17/05/2025 19:10

Sooner or later, some barrister or professor or politician or charity CEO or union general secretary will have to be made an example of, pour encourager les autres.

Maybe there are just too many prominent people who've breached public standards to deal with thoroughly. But then you have to look at people like Jolyon who really seem to be taking the piss.

yourhairiswinterfire · 17/05/2025 19:26

he took a small break earlier to libel one of the SC judges.

So the 'wisest lawyer he knows' is slandering a Supreme Court judge (or all 5 of them considering the judgment was unanimous ) and the bestest ever human rights lawyers in the whole wide world told him a case that had been accepted and was being argued in the Supreme Court...wasn't arguable Confused

I'm beginning to think that all these 'top lawyers' he's conversing with are actually just his teddy bears and dollies, sat in a circle at Jolly's tea parties telling him what he wants to hear. Fucking crackpot.

WorriedMutha · 17/05/2025 19:36

I'm certain there were complaints about Suella Braverman calling judges unelected and unaccountable when she was Attorney General. Surely JoMo is going further than this. She sailed close to the wind but I'm really not sure if she was being taken to task as a member of the bar or due to the fact she had responsibility for the Judiciary in her capacity as AG.
I would dearly love to see him taken down a peg.

WorriedMutha · 17/05/2025 19:44

He did have to apologise when criticised by a judge for a tweet about the murder of Brianna Ghey when he said the perpetrators were motivated by transphobia. He also wrongly disclosed a witness statement from an action re PPE when this evidence wasn't being relied on in breach of the rules. This isn't lawyerly behaviour.

NecessaryScene · 17/05/2025 20:05

I would dearly love to see him taken down a peg.

But that would merely demonstrate how corrupt the system is, and how much they regard him as a twat threat.

Bannedontherun · 17/05/2025 20:25

I have just reported him to the Bar, for bringing the profession in to disrepute and profiteering from his fundraising activities, preying on vulnerable and gullible people with spurious legal arguments based on his title as a KC. And failing as a legal body to foster good relations between protected groups as is his duty under the EQA.

Let’s see where it goes.

loveyouradvice · 17/05/2025 21:33

Congrats @Bannedontherun - this is really powerful and important....Well done

JanesLittleGirl · 17/05/2025 22:43

I'm just buying popcorn futures. Gonna make a huge profit when JoMo finally brings a case to court.

As a Vulpes vulpes, I am sorely tempted to take the day off work and go along to court to observe the result.

I may have some useful first aid skills in case Jolyon is in danger of harrumphing himself to death.

Depending on when it is, I might join you. Soon to be freed of children, so may don the adult human email teeshirt and start pitching up.keep thinking I will one day go to the LWS event in London too

Interesting choice of people for GLP's projection.

Munroe Bergdorf, Nadia Almada, India Willoughby and Victoria McCloud.

Bergdorf and Willoughby are pretty awful people with a bunch of prejudices who are very polarising. It is like deciding to head a campaign to say sex is real with someone like Trump.

I have been keeping an eye on the GLP's fundraiser and despite all the publicity in the last few days it has slowed down considerably.

April 25th launched

May 6th - 361,869
May 16th - 387,292
May 18th - 393,560

Possibly GLP are drumming up support as much as possible before it becomes clear their legal challenge is meaningless.

Can anything be said to be truly meaningless?

Sometimes it's all about the friends you make along the way.

WorriedMutha · 18/05/2025 08:17

I thought there were strict rules about legal crowd funding. There doesn't appear to be any clarity about the means and basis for a legal challenge and the GLP seem to be playing fast and loose with the regulations. I'm surprised this hasn't been raised. Are legal funds being used for a projection protest.
Not that I want to stop the protest as I think they are doing sterling work for us. I'm sure most people will just look and think wtf.

KnottyAuty · 18/05/2025 08:21

Sorry if this has been posted before. Here’s a link to a podcast where Joylon is interviewed (last year) “turning pain into purpose” although doesn’t talk widely about his work on trans rights

Curious quote from the very end:
Never wrestle with a pig because you both get covered in shit, but the pig enjoys it. And in the work that I do, which is fundamentally about speaking for those outside power to those inside power, I find it useful to ask yourself the question, who is the pig? Who is it who's going to enjoy the both of you getting covered in shit when you have a fight?

If you're challenging power and you can force power to engage with you, then you are the pig. You are enjoying the fight and they are not enjoying it. You are forcing them to engage.

You are forcing power to do what it does not want to do, which is to breathe into your lungs the air of saliency. So that would be my key, Alberto, my key takeaway. Ask yourself, who is the pig?

As cases of witness intimidation go, it's a poor effort. They lost the case a month back.
