Here at the Bluestocking there's a place for all women. A break from Reality, and many laughs and stories to share. Have your fill of Tunnocks bars and tea cakes, sing feminist anthems, drink as much beer or gin or hot chocolate as you desire. It won't make you fatter or drunken but oh, it's fun. Sit in the garden with our Lion resident or the Quokkas and Capybara. Express your opinions loudly in Pedantry Corner. Ask for whatever you fancy to be served by our obliging Gerbil staff. Come in, all women, welcome!

Gemini can be awfully po-faced at times!

Now I’d deffo drink that one. It’s not dissimilar to a Zombie or Mai Tai. 🍹

FuzzyPuffling · 19/04/2025 15:07

I am listening to The Messiah. It is powerful stuff and so beautiful.

It tends to apologise profusely, sometimes argues a bit, sometimes blames its code, and sometimes enters into a discussion and changes its ways for the rest of that session.

Next time it's back to how it was and you wonder why you bothered.

Spot on, Boily.

It has all the soothing weasel words needed to gloss over whatever issue you are debating with it. Sometimes it will then do what you're asking, but that is increasingly rare.

I asked it for an image of a women only pub featuring various characters we know and love here at the Bluestocking, And when I asked it to take out all the men it added more, and when I pointed out that it has previously made images of a women only pub with all women customers it told me it is unable to make an image with only women in it because its algorithms instruct it to be inclusive.

The only way around that particular impasse was to ask for an image that didn't have any other customers in it.

All the stereotypes are represented in the AI oeuvre. I don't find it so much fun anymore, making extraordinary images, because also I worry about where these images originate from. Whose work has been appropriated? Whose photo? Whose body?

A few threads ago we had some amazing diagrams ... who was it who drew them? Was it @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius or @ifIwerenotanandroid or @lcakethereforeIam ?

We need those diagrams!

I am listening to The Messiah. It is powerful stuff and so beautiful.

Thanks for the reminder, it's That Time of Year again - of course it's beautiful any time of year.
283 years and... let's see... 6 days since it was first performed, in Dublin.Smile

DeanElderberry · 19/04/2025 15:57

For a few months I worked in a building on the very spot where it was performed.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/04/2025 16:04

I've just realised that 'sanction' is one of those words that has diametrically opposed meanings.

The Messiah is lovely...and a naughty boy.

I was part of the crowd fund for it, so my name is in the back.

Kennans, or the hotel that replaced it? I can remember Kennan's Iron Works being thereSmile

Ah yes, 'Dublin in the Rare Oul' Times', run down and full of asbestos🙄

Whatever stands on the spot now, I always feel a buzz when I'm near where Messiah was first heardSmile

Thanks for the trail of breadcrumbs - I’ve found you all.

Ive had a lovely afternoon - my friend is here, so we went over to Loch Long and she and dh walked the dogs whilst I crocheted, then we stopped at a lovely farm shop on the way back and bought nice cheese, cheese straws and cannoli - and ice creams. I had hot cross bun flavour ice cream, and my friend had seabuckthorn flavour!

The last time we went to this particular shop, it was the first time I’d been shopping in person since Covid, and I completely lost my head - I went round finding so many lovely things that dh nearly fainted at the cost! That was a year ago, and today was the first time he let me in a shop again. 😂😂😂😂😂

do any of these AIs now keep up with current events? If so maybe you can tell it we’re in the U.K. and so are allowed single sex spaces which are inclusive of all ages, colours and sizes of women but without any males at all.

I bet if you ask it to create an image of various other protected characteristic groupings it wouldn’t insist on ‘inclusivity’.

CautiousLurker01 · 19/04/2025 19:30

No cocktails or tunnocks but
am about to see OB1 Kenobe in My Master Builder. But I got shitfaced beforehand in celebration of you guys and the SC decision!

EdithStourton · 19/04/2025 19:30

I'm glad you had a great day out, @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius - hot cross bun ice-cream sounds worth a try. I hope your evening is just as good as your day.

I have just pigged down a bowl of stewed quinces with cream and demerara sugar. This is what comes of clearing out the freezer and finding a bag of cored and quartered quinces labelled '2020'. How did I have the time to faff about with quinces, which are rock hard and difficult to cut up? Lockdown, innit.

I might have to have some more for breakfast. Fruit is good for you, surely, even when it's been cooked for literally hours (about 4, over a very low heat)?

Swashbuckled · 19/04/2025 19:51

@ErrolTheDragon

It seems to work if you say they’re suffragettes!

That’s not a pub though…looks more like a loo queue. And it’s snuck in a row of suspiciously masculine shoe toes.

It's a bit dreary, but Gemini seems to understand the concept of a women's pub.

I found something lovely to share with you - I've been sorting out papers [😬my nemesis, along with books] and I found a poem that was published in my local newspaper when I lived in London. I liked it so much I cut it out and kept it, and I'm so happy to have found it:

POEM
Love we should give,
Love is life,
Give it to family, pets, friends.
That love should never end.

If somebody dies,
Family, pets or friends,
If you have love,
They will always be with you.

If you feel down,
Friends have fallen out,
If you have love,
They are still your friend.

If you fall down,
Hurt your knee,
If you have love,
Your knee feels better.

So that is love.
So important.
Try to find it,
If you have none.

by Emma T, aged 8
'In memory of my dear cat Jessie, who has just recently died'

And however much sugar and cream you serve it with?
<hopeful>

(And yes, it was very delicious!)

Swashbuckled · 19/04/2025 21:17

That’s lovely @MarieDeGournay

How old would Emma T be now? (Part of me is hoping she might read it here 😊)
