Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

Good luck with it!

I downloaded the Merlin app and I heard a blue tit (fucking loud) and a robin!

It’s wrens which are truly amazing for decibels per gram of bird.

MarieDeGournay · 11/04/2025 11:19

I've just had a slightly terse conversation with the Cheerbils, I mentioned that they might need to cheer for Magpie too, and one of them got really quite snippy with me - I know! a gerbil? snippy? - and said
'Do you mind? We are 100% focused on the job in hand and that's getting Myrtle over the line, so please go away and stop distracting us! Now let's just run through it again, Cheerbils:
GIMME AN EM! GIMME A Y! GIMME AN R!... good, now shake those pom-poms like you mean it..'

I apologised but they were too busy to notice. We thought we knew gerbils, eh?🙄

Go to it, Myrtle! Up & at 'em!

etc, etc.

It's the world economic situation, they're feeling a little worried about their portfolios.

I really shouldn't be encouraging this topic🙄but I can't help myself...male snakes have two penises. Fancy, eh?Smile
Crocs and gators too I think.

I saw a video on FB this morning, of a crocodile (or an alligator - can't remember which) that had been born with no tail! It was very cute - but still too bitey to be a pet.

I'm sending lots of encouraging and luck-inducing thoughts your way, @MyrtleLion - I'm sure you will be a triumph and will richly deserve your drink this afternoon.

I am still working on flowerets for the hydrangeas I'm crocheting - partly because I want to put off the moment where I have to get out the hot glue gun and the wire and beads, and start trying to assemble them - I am rather cack handed and it might not go well. And I keep buying more shades of blue to use (blue is ds2's girlfriend's favourite colour).

MyrtleLion · 11/04/2025 12:45

Turned up at King's Cross and was met on the platform by the cheerbils! A splendid banner as well, though how they managed to get permission to span the platforms is beyond me.
So ingenious, those lovely creatures 😍

Wasn't there a case of an alligator/croc born without a tail and they made it a prosthetic one, cos they need one for swimming?

That sort of animal is a bit hard to warm to, I agree Woley!

The piece you're working on sounds like it's going to be amazing!
Careful with that hot glue gun though😧

Looking very stylish there, Myrtle. Love the matching bag and coat, and the casual touch of the sunglasses.

Thank you! That is pretty much what I'm wearing though some of the detail is not quite correct xx

I agree - serious, capable, efficient, and the sunglasses add an air of breezy confidence.

The Cheerbils are so happy to be actually performing after all those hours of practice!
Go Myrtle!

I love google - found the alligator with a prosthetic tail:
He was an alligator who had had his tail bitten off and was nick- named... Mr Stubbs!
He looks like a very patient patient - though I see his jaws are duct-taped shut, something which is, I believe, somewhat frowned-upon in most patient-doctor scenarios😆

Magpiecomplex · 11/04/2025 13:04

I imagine a fair few doctors wish they could duct-tape their patients' jaws shut, but yes, generally considered inappropriate. 🤣

I came across this X thread about a - shock horror - women's pub. Of course, we're not like that here.

Strictly no smoking inside

FuzzyPuffling · 11/04/2025 17:30

I see the women get dumped with the kids.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2025 19:17

Saw my first swallows of the year this afternoon!

FuzzyPuffling · 11/04/2025 19:49

We went for a walk today. This was our lunchtime view.

Yes, all right, just a tad. That's gorgeous, Fuzzy! My lunchtime view was yet more marking.

Crocs and gators too I think.

Giving a whole new lease of life to the phrase 'as happy as a dog with two dicks'. I was introduced to it by a friend who had spent most of his working life on building sites.

I'm loving the Merlin app. I stood outside with this morning when I should have been getting ready to head off for the course I'm on and it racked up about ten species - robin, blackbird, great tit, blue tit, dunnock, sparrow, woodie, collared dove, chiffchaff, chaffinch. Oddly it doesn't seem to notice the tortured 'Scraaah!' from the bloody peacocks down the road.

You looked amazing for your interview, Myrtle. I can never manage that degree of suave - something about me, my hair, my clothes etc always gives away the fact that I'm a jeans and wellies woman.

Hope Myrtle is having a nice time in the restaurant by the river, and that it went well 🤞.

I seem to be going through a stage of wilfully buggering my hand up. This afternoon I had some training lectures to listen to for work. Thought I’d put my headphones in and gently sand the paint off some wood whilst absorbing the info. It took a few hours as there were several coats. Now I have buggered hand like after last week’s gardening marathon. But it still feels worth it 😊.

Walked the hound after work, cooked, ate, had shower and hair wash. And now have a glass of wine. Friday innit.

Lovely view @FuzzyPuffling .

Swashbuckled · 11/04/2025 21:23

And I can hear geese kicking off.

Edited

It probably doesn’t have non native birds in its models for each region - I tried it on flamingos at the WWT, it was oblivious to them.

MyrtleLion · 11/04/2025 21:40

Quick and brief update:

  • it went well
  • I'll be told the outcome on Tuesday
  • I believe I'm the strongest candidate but they may have reservations.

I'll give you a further update tomorrow

So many thanks to the cheerbils - they cheered me in, during and afterwards and I got loads of gerbil cuddles 😍

MarchWindsAnd · 11/04/2025 21:42

Excellent news, @MyrtleLion . Fingers crossed until Tuesday.
