The Bluestocking - where women are women, and small furry animals are gerbils, quokkas, capybaras, or a red panda called Rosy

Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

Meanwhile I think Have I Got News For You should be spoken to sternly for promulgating meanness to Tunnocks.

Hope Myrtle is having a nice time in the restaurant by the river, and that it went well 🤞.

I seem to be going through a stage of wilfully buggering my hand up. This afternoon I had some training lectures to listen to for work. Thought I’d put my headphones in and gently sand the paint off some wood whilst absorbing the info. It took a few hours as there were several coats. Now I have buggered hand like after last week’s gardening marathon. But it still feels worth it 😊.

Walked the hound after work, cooked, ate, had shower and hair wash. And now have a glass of wine. Friday innit.

Lovely view @FuzzyPuffling .

If you've got hand problems, the vibration from e.g. a sander can quickly do it in. Hope it's better soon.

MarieDeGournay · 11/04/2025 22:04

Thank you for the report, and well done Myrtle, it sounds like it went as well as possible, and I hope it's champagne instead of prosecco on Tuesday night chez Lioness-Walrus!

Have a good night's sleep after your exertions. The Cheerbils are already sparked out, they really gave it everything today, didn't they?Smile

It probably doesn’t have non native birds in its models for each region - I tried it on flamingos at the WWT, it was oblivious to them.

Ah, that would explain it.

Well done, Myrtle - that sounds hopeful.

There is a bit of a pall of gloom over Stourton Hall this evening - we've just heard that a family friend has died quite suddenly. He was elderly (though not seriously old) and not in great shape, but seemed to have a good few years left in him. He was much loved by all of us including the (now adult) DC, who had to be informed after we were told. He was absolutely wonderful with them when they were little.

Crap. I have a busy day tomorrow which will distract me, and that is probably a good thing.

And it reminds me that I MUST phone my ancient cousin.

Maybe just stick with the cutlass. I haven't heard of many pirates complaining about wrist and hand pain from repetitive strain injury from swinging a cutlass.

Thanks @ifIwerenotanandroid 😊.

I don’t actually have hand problems; just seem to keep doing activities lately that keep it in a gripping position for several hours 😬.

I did get my mouse sander out but the job was too intricate for it. I had to do it all by hand, with pieces of sandpaper that I kept folding and refolding. It was like the olden days… 😁.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2025 22:21

Flowers @EdithStourton sorry to hear that

That is good advice @JanesLittleGirl and I shall try to heed it.

At some point…. 🤣.

Ah, right. The result of the pressure experiment, I should have realised.

MarieDeGournay · 12/04/2025 10:38

Quiet morning in the Bluestocking this morning. The Cheerbils are just waking up, lots of aches and pains from their performance yesterday, so they are rubbing Gerbilene into the achy bits and they are glad it's so quiet, but they say they'll be fine later, and normal service will be resumed.

I've helped myself to a cuppa and I'm sitting here watching the quokkas and the capybaras and Rosy and the miniature pigs playing with Puggles - and oh look there's Hare - too late, she saw me watching and she's gone!

Hope you are all having a similarly peaceful start to your daySmile

Gerbilene! 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, Gerbilene, though the lighter white version not the usual pink stuff because it mats up their little furry coats.
For the miniature pigs, we use oinkment😃

So sorry to hear your news @EdithStourton . It's so hard sometimes.

The interview went very well and I was able to see the names of the other two candidates on the sign-in book. Two boring blokes in similar jobs for over 10 years but different industries.
The panel said I had enhanced their view of me and also that my presentation was ambitious but they might not have the resource to implement it and how did I feel about that. I said it's a pitch and if it has to wait until there is more resource that's fine with me.
They will think over the weekend and meet late on Monday afternoon to decide. I will find out on Tuesday. I am hopeful but if they want same safe hands then they'll pick one of the men.
I met my friend for wine - £14.75 for a 175ml glass of chardonnay!
Then went home and had a lovely meal by the river. The outside terrace was full but we had a great view inside. Then went home and watched Grand Designs and drank red wine.
I am hugely grateful for all the good wishes of the Bluestockingers, and for the cheerbils' efforts. I am now having a lovely cuddle with Rosy on the outside river bank, admiring Swashy's ship. It's very lovely.

MarieDeGournay · 12/04/2025 12:20

Oh expletive deleted! I had written a long post about Myrtle's interview, and that lovely image of cuddles with Rosy while waiting for Swash's ship to dock, but I nipped over to the page where I have a live playlist for Radio 3 to check the name of the HIldegard of Bingen piece they were playing, and the post disappeared😡

Anyway, to sum up - well done Myrtle it sounds like you did really well, and we're keeping our fingers, paws and tiny little trotters crossed for you😄

I heard her Ordo Virtutum performed in a 1000+ year old church. Wonderful.

So sorry, Edith.
