The Bluestocking - where women are women, and small furry animals are gerbils, quokkas, capybaras, or a red panda called Rosy

Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

Don’t be fooled into thinking penguins are cuddly. Once when DD was small we went with DHs late father to Birdland, he tried to stroke one and it nipped him hard.

Lovely post; thank you ☺️.

Thanks for posting the poem too. A pet hare…. That has ignited my imagination. A pet hare….

We should get a pet hare for The Blue Stocking. Maybe one will wander in and decide to stay… 🤞

Glad you liked it.

Hares are magic.

The Bluestocking is magic.

You want a hare? We now have a hare.

Not a pet, that would be demeaning. A wild hare, who sometimes likes company and has heard that the best company in the world is to be had in the Bluestocking.Smile

G'night all, may the Dream Gerbil bring you sweet ones, and the Hare bring you magical ones🌛

Here I am, hare I am.
Hare here, here today.
Hare here, gone tomorrow.

I've clearly missed a VERY busy afternoon and evening at the Bluestocking.

Firstly, congrats to Myrtle on her second interview.

Secondly, in military circles the RAF is famous for sitting around drinking tea rather doing anything involving getting dirty and fighting. So perhaps that is why the teapot story was so popular.

Thirdly, we had a LWB Landrover when I was a kid. I bloody loved it. This was in the days when children could bounce around unrestrained and it was great fun to be right in the back with my friends.

As for clothes, I am with Fuzzy: tall and long of limb (arms like a gibbon, legs like a giraffe). I struggle to find jumpers that reach my wrists and trying to buy jeans is either exasperating (coz NOTHING fits) and 'Long' (LOL!) either grazes the top of my ankle bone/ isn't in bloody stock/ is long enough in the leg but doesn't fit elsewhere, or I find ones that fit AND are long enough, but they are £££. Given that I live in jeans for 8 months of the year, I should just buy two pairs at a time when I find some that work.

I do like penguins. But I think I like hares more.

Jeans..( Sorry if I sound like S&B) have you tried Lands End? Leg length up to 34" and proportional rise. Excellent quality and if you can get them in the sale, brilliant value.

lcakethereforeIam · 05/04/2025 08:57

Uppity women and hares have a lot in common. Both condemned as witches.

Magpiecomplex · 05/04/2025 09:28

I think I'd make rather a good witch!

She might not stay long, though @Swashbuckled - you know what they say - hare today, gone tomorrow.

MarieDeGournay · 05/04/2025 12:18

Sorry, Magpie, but this is the definitive version of you IMHO. In keeping with the elegance and authority of real magpies, the avian kind. And dealing in the power of facts not spells.
But of course, this being the Bluestocking, you can be a witch if you prefer.. Smile

Thank you Marie! I might cosplay as a witch occasionally at weekends maybe. Just for light relief. Grin

Congratulations @MyrtleLion

(I think AI believes you and your other half have become far too confluent! 😬. I did ask for you both to be there….)

I think I tried to eat him, but he was just too big!

MyrtleLion · 05/04/2025 12:44

I too am tallish. 5ft 7 and a (very important) half inches. But I am long in body so I can't buy decent swimming costumes. The norkage is large, so I need underwiring but the underwires drift towards the bottom of my ribcage while the norks are unsupported.

I'm not showing my stomach to anyone, least of all the sun, so I have tankinis.

Same height but short bodied and also large of nork. I find straps are always too long, and if I can't adjust them enough I have flappy fabric in unflattering places! Trying to find jeans to fit a 33" inside leg on an hourglass size 16 is nigh on impossible so I make do with M&S, which almost fit, but assume the presence of saddle bags (which I don't have). That sounds like a stealth boast but it honestly isn't - I'd love to be a more "normal" shape.

If they do up to 34" for women, why do they only go up to 34" for men? I rushed off to their w/s when I read your post, as DH has lovely long legs & needs a 36" inside leg. If anyone has recommendations for that, I'd love to hear them.

My walrus is 6ft2 and uses Weird Fish, particularly for jeans. They fit very lovely.

As my DH is very lovely, I'll take a look - thanks.❤

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/04/2025 13:10

@MyrtleLion Am I missing something, dear, or are you still hungover after last night? There only seems to be one style of jean & it only goes up to 32" inside leg! Does your dear Walrus have a low-slung bottom & therefore little legs?

This is Mumsnet, we need a diagram.

MarieDeGournay · 05/04/2025 13:24

Is your DH human Android?
If he was an android, he could adjust the length of his legs to fit - a bit of whirring and clicking and voilà! a perfect fit.
If he's human - sorry ...no suggestions😐

I was confusing waist with inside leg 😭🤣😂

He's a 31". He also has a long body.

He is indeed human, 6'4" & beoooootifully proportioned, hence the long legs.

(I know this won't get your heart beating any faster, Marie, but it works for me. 😍)

I'm full of admiration for the way you've made your mixed android-human marriage work so well😃

And you're right, no cardiac over-reactions here, they are saved for....

Just to remind you @Marie I look EXACTLY like that in real life. It’s uncanny…

I’ve had such a good day today. Went for a long walk this morning with the hound, in the Spring sunshine. Cows, sheep, lambs, rooks, squirrels. Walking through fields with the mother and baby lambs is very warming; I always talk to them as I walk through. One of the farmers has put donkeys in one of his fields; had to walk through that one too. Friendly little fellows. Detoured on the way back to forage a load of wild garlic, which I incorporated into lunch, and dinner, and will keep incorporating into meals until it’s gone, or rotten.

I spent the rest of the day gardening and am feeling so pleased with how productive I’ve been. I love feeling productive and it was lovely out there. Absolutely banjaxed now though. Aching a lot.

Am on the dark chocolate to reward myself. Shall post pics of some sheep.

No need to remind me, Swash, I am as certain of your gorgeousness as I am of my black-feathered wings and extreme, Dorian-Gray-ish, youthGrin

Sounds like a lovely day, if somewhat land-locked ..
Cute sheep, I love the black lamb💕

The gerbils haven't quite worked out how to give massages yet, they tried standing on each others' shoulders to reach human height, but they kept giggling and falling over, unfortunately, it sounds like you could do with one!

Banjaxed - a very Dublin word, your galleon must have put into port there at some stageSmile
