Welcome all to the Bluestocking Pub, a haven safe from harsh reality [mostly] full of good company, and excellent food and drink served by the most efficient team of gerbils in the hospitality industry.

Once again who has access to the PRIVATE CCTV network chez WalrusLion???

The walrus is currently helpless with laughter on the carpet at the thought of decorous norks!

Reduce him further into helplessness with the image itself.

Then have your wicked way with him.

Say nothing. Act natural. Get out now.

Although I seem to have left with a different support penguin. Hey ho...

The capybara has a hand on the end of its tail. 😮

Isn't it a tuft?

There has to be a joke that starts 'A penguin 🐧 walks in to a bar...'

OK Stockingers, I hereby nominate Page 12 of this thread as the oddest ever:
it included, in no particular order

clothes that are too large for small people
clothes that are too small for small people
Myrtle getting second interview - YAY!! well done😄
bramble-pruning
NC being brilliant - again
centaur dachshunds
an over-exuberant lioness with a bottle of champers
emotional support penguins..

the lioness with the decorous norks didn't appear till page 12, so unfortunately can't be added to the mix

Only in the Bluestocking, eh?😂

A role model for the gerbils:
A landmine-hunting rat in Cambodia has set a new world record by sniffing out more than 100 mines and pieces of unexploded ordnance, a charity said.
Ronin, a giant African pouched rat, has tracked down 109 landmines and 15 other potentially deadly war remnants since his deployment to northern Preah Vihear province in August 2021, the Belgian charity APOPO said in a statement.

Swash, while you were seeing real magical hares, I was reading about William Cowper's pet hare, in his long long long poem 'The Task' [which is the source of 'the cup that cheers but does not inebriate'] - it's over 100 pages!

On page 40 he mentions his pet hare:

..one at least is safe. One shelter'd hare
Has never heard the sanguinary yell
Of cruel man, exulting in her woes.
Innocent partner of my peaceful home,
Whom ten long years' experience of my care
Has made at last familiar; she has lost
Much of her vigilant instinctive dread,
Not needful here, beneath a roof like mine.
Yes--thou may'st eat thy bread, and lick the hand
That feeds thee; thou may'st frolic on the floor
At evening, and at night retire secure
To thy straw couch, and slumber unalarm'd;
For I have gain'd thy confidence, have pledg'd
All that is human in me to protect
Thine unsuspecting gratitude and love.
If I survive thee I will dig thy grave;
And, when I place thee in it, sighing, say,
I knew at least one hare that had a friend.
William Cowper

He also wrote an Epitaph for a Hare
Epitaph on a Hare | The Poetry Foundation
but it must have been a different hare, this one is male, and unlike the one above, was more inclined to bite then hand that fed it than lick it!

I hope you are feeling rested after your tiring day. Enjoy your quiet corner of the Bluestocking, I'll send you over a glass of finest wine, and leave you be WineSmile

Lovely post; thank you ☺️.

Thanks for posting the poem too. A pet hare…. That has ignited my imagination. A pet hare….

We should get a pet hare for The Blue Stocking. Maybe one will wander in and decide to stay… 🤞

Do we have any penguins at the Bluey? I like penguins. I think I need an emotional support penguin.

Oh, I like penguins too. The way they shuffle along, especially the babies. Let’s hope some shuffle along for a pint 😊

Swashbuckled · 04/04/2025 21:14

Congratulations @MyrtleLion

(I think AI believes you and your other half have become far too confluent! 😬. I did ask for you both to be there….)

Either that or Myrtle has gone back in time and become a sabre toothed lion.

Perhaps so, yes.

Swashbuckled · 04/04/2025 21:26

Thanks; I didn’t realise (no mirrors on the ship). It will be one of the cabin boys lacing my water supply with turmeric again!

I’ll have to reassert some boundaries with him, if I can find him… 😡

Magpiecomplex · 04/04/2025 21:27

He's probably hiding behind a penguin.

Swashbuckled · 04/04/2025 21:30

Well, obviously I don’t want to scare one of the penguins.

He’ll come out soon enough. When he’s hungry, no doubt. I shall sit on deck eating hot and fine smelling pirate food until he caves. The penguins may shuffle forward to share with me and then he will be revealed and we shall have words.

(I didn’t get where I am today without having a cunning plan.. 😁)

Swashbuckled · 04/04/2025 21:34

🤣

I did notice the sudden girly twizzle. But don’t worry, I don’t think anybody else will have clocked a thing 🤫.

EdithStourton · 04/04/2025 22:15

I've clearly missed a VERY busy afternoon and evening at the Bluestocking.

Firstly, congrats to Myrtle on her second interview.

Secondly, in military circles the RAF is famous for sitting around drinking tea rather doing anything involving getting dirty and fighting. So perhaps that is why the teapot story was so popular.

Thirdly, we had a LWB Landrover when I was a kid. I bloody loved it. This was in the days when children could bounce around unrestrained and it was great fun to be right in the back with my friends.

As for clothes, I am with Fuzzy: tall and long of limb (arms like a gibbon, legs like a giraffe). I struggle to find jumpers that reach my wrists and trying to buy jeans is either exasperating (coz NOTHING fits) and 'Long' (LOL!) either grazes the top of my ankle bone/ isn't in bloody stock/ is long enough in the leg but doesn't fit elsewhere, or I find ones that fit AND are long enough, but they are £££. Given that I live in jeans for 8 months of the year, I should just buy two pairs at a time when I find some that work.

I do like penguins. But I think I like hares more.

Phew! I have a reputation to maintain!
And yes, I know that's the wrong cap. Gemini refuses to give me a Tudor bonnet. Grrr...
