Here for your delight and delectation is the hostelry by, for, and about wise, intelligent, creative and kind women, their assorted avatars including (but not limited to) a remarkable beetle, an astute android, a wise cake, and an assembly of companion creatures and animal assistants.

Food and drink available in abundance, all with remarkable non-damaging qualities.

Males may congregate in the nearby Staunch Ally and sometimes visit the stableyard to view outdoor performances by the gerbil waitstaff (who need to be distracted after the moment after that terrible 'misunderstanding' about the meaning of safe sex).

last thread here if you need to know why the Quokkas need some extra cuddles, and why the Cabybaras are being particularly efficient just now

I totally agree!

Do not drown the gin in tonic! A splash in the glass and the bottle next to it. And a maximum of two ice cubes.

There is a reason that martini are made in cocktail shakers with ice but strained into a chilled glass without.

Gerbil! Get me a very dry dirty martini with two olives on a cocktail stick. People will think I'm not classy if I'm fishing the olives out with my fingers.

AsWithGlad · 24/02/2025 23:47

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2025 23:36

Well yes, Glad, but isn't that going to have gluten? What gluten-free grains can be satisfactorily malted?

Yes, that’s why I haven’t eaten/drunk it in years, and why it’s such a treat to enjoy Horlicks here in The Bluestocking.

I haven’t always had to avoid gluten, or perhaps I should have but didn’t know.

Do, please, call me Glad. It’s not my name, but is the name of someone I try to emulate. I try to act as Glad would.
Yes, her middle name is Ness.

that is fucking wild ……

AsWithGlad · 24/02/2025 23:57

Boily, is it you who has been secretly training the gerbils? Those songs are magnificent and can only inspire them to greater heights of service.

Perhaps, if we feel uneasy away from The Bluestocking, humming a few bars can be our secret recognition sign? If one of us hears it we are duty-bound privileged to rush to the aid of the singer.

They voted between themselves and vetoed their first version and insisted they rewrite and rework the music!

See for yourself if they were right...

I think they were right.
The original version does have echoes of Eurovision.

Although, I do have some regret at the loss of

And will serve you with a smile
For you are wonderful women
For who we'll go an extra mile.

Tonight's insomniac activity: Boily looking horrified at some beans

and ... I think the Tribbles are making a comeback. Either that, or Boot Camp involves large cotton wool balls for some reason

And here, after arguing with the AI for about 20 minutes, is Boily being alarmed at the thought of having to eat lettuce and tomato.
G'night all

Sorry I’m late, I’m blaming it on the bus. I traveled with JKR and her two Westies plus mine, and after selfies they were a bit of a handful.
We’ll take 2 double G&Ts, and a doggy bowl of water please.

Hello Humphrey and westies. How are you at tribble- chasing?

FuzzyPuffling · 25/02/2025 07:20

Jane, will this suffice?
The actual distilling vat and lovely bar at Plymouth Gin.

So brilliant. It just goes to show what gerbils can achieve with a little leadership and direction. I like both versions but particularly #1.

Fabby Westies - they might well be just the people to DO something about the lingering tribble problem.

<yawns, stretches>

God I had a horrible nightmare during the night, I was being forced to eat beans. It was awful.

Then to make matters worse, having woken screaming from yet another plate of beans being served for my lunch when I finally fell back to sleep I started dreaming about being forced to eat salad.

You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to my bacon and stilton bagel after the horrors of my nightmares!

lcakethereforeIam · 25/02/2025 09:59

Wow! The gerbils are doing drills in the courtyard. From the remains of the derrick I'm going to assume they needed some explanation as to what sort of drilling they should have been doing.

It's very impressive.

PRE-SENT GLASS two three
SLOPE BOTTLE two three

Wait ferret, wait ferret

POUR two three four five....

<watches in admiration>

That's going to be rather a lot of very large g&t's. And at this time! I'm assuming I've missed the breakfast drill?

AsWithGlad · 25/02/2025 10:19

We have a greasiballing facility now? Is that like a dirtier version of paintballing, or is it how we deal with any man who tries to get in?

I know it looks like a glass of water but that's actually a very large G&T.

I noticed this on YouTube

I have literally never thought about this before. It's brilliant!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2025 11:30

I'd 'always' known about the proportions and the root 2 ratio but I hadn't realised A0 was one square metre.

US paper is ridiculous. Their refusal to get onboard with metrication and adoption of SI units throughout engineering (scientists have more sense on this) is bizarre and has caused serious problems. I'm not a US basher at all on spellings etc (rather the reverse) but illogical nonstandard units are another matter entirely.

Yes, I agree, I love it! It's like the metric system, which I love for similar reasons, e.g. 1 litre of water weighs 1 kilo, which is so neat.

One little quibble about paper names though: 'Foolscap' was a pretty cool name for a sheet of paperSmile

Welcome, HumphreyCushionintheHouse, are you related to the HumphreyWeatherProofOutdoorCushions at all? Such marvellous garden parties at their place in the country!Grin

I hope Jane has recovered from her shitty day and gerbil-fur in her gin, and that they have won her over with proper Plymouth gin, proper tonic, and their lovely songs - surprisingly country in style, but lovely.

I hope you make up with them, Jane, they really have gone the extra mile to apologise, and we don't want another emotional melt-down like we had with the quokkas when the red panda arrived🙄

I remember a NASA space mission to Mars got lost because it was sending data back in SI but it was being read as Imperial, or vice versa - so every time it made a directional adjustment it was a bit wrong, and it all added up to very wrong.

That's the great thing about gin and tonic, you can let everyone think it's posh water. Not that I've ever done that in Zoom meetings.

(Also, having a nostalgic reminisce about enormous gin tonics in Andalusia in the 1980s.)
