Here for your delight and delectation is the hostelry by, for, and about wise, intelligent, creative and kind women, their assorted avatars including (but not limited to) a remarkable beetle, an astute android, a wise cake, and an assembly of companion creatures and animal assistants.

Food and drink available in abundance, all with remarkable non-damaging qualities.

Males may congregate in the nearby Staunch Ally and sometimes visit the stableyard to view outdoor performances by the gerbil waitstaff (who need to be distracted after the moment after that terrible 'misunderstanding' about the meaning of safe sex).

last thread here if you need to know why the Quokkas need some extra cuddles, and why the Cabybaras are being particularly efficient just now

I remember a NASA space mission to Mars got lost because it was sending data back in SI but it was being read as Imperial, or vice versa - so every time it made a directional adjustment it was a bit wrong, and it all added up to very wrong.

Yes, it has happened a number of times with sometimes catastrophic effects:

Apologies in advance, but I may have introduced raccoons into the Bluestocking.

I decided yesterday that we needed to get a present for No1 granddaughter, to give to her when we go to visit after the twins arrive, and I found a toy mummy raccoon and her four babies on Amazon. They looked very cute in the picture, but in the flesh fake fur, they are even cuter, because mummy raccoon has a zip in her tummy so the four babies can be born by c-section. As our DDIL is having a section, this is even more appropriate.

Ds1 loves raccoons, and has taught our granddaughter to call them Trash Pandas - much to our DIL's annoyance. I think he will like the raccoon as much as our gd will.

It is possible that they may all sneak off into the Bluestocking, whilst we wait for DIL to have the babies....

lcakethereforeIam · 25/02/2025 12:41

I sympathise. I'm worried I may have introduced wait ferrets into the serving staff. Not seen any yet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

DeanElderberry · 25/02/2025 13:02

The ferrets are well qualified not only for table service but also for tribble conversion.

WANT ONE! NOW!😛

I mean a mummy raccoon with babies, not a DDIL about to have twins - delightful though that sounds, it would be a bit hard to explain if they suddenly appeared in my lifeGrin

What a very appropriate present for the little one who is soon going to have not one but two little newbies to deal with - I hope she does so with more equanimity than the quokkas did when the cute red panda arrived!
The quokkas seem to be OK now but I think I overheard one of them calling Rosy 'That Trash Panda'😏

She's a very lucky little one to have such a thoughtful grandmotherSmile
All the best for the safe arrival of the twins, we have the Champagne Bas Bleu on ice.

MyrtleLion · 25/02/2025 13:38

What a wonderful gift! I imagine your DGD will spend a lot of time pulling the baby raccoons out and putting then back in as she works it all out.

In other news, I somehow have to get the end of this "bud" into the tiniest holes in the world in the "petals". The top petal ripped before I worked out that I need to gently skewer them on the tweezers to make the holes larger.

I may be some time.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/02/2025 14:10

No quokkas, NO! Rosy is not a " trash panda" and we'll have none of that sort of talk here.

What is happening in the Bluestocking? Is it all falling apart? How do we restore harmony amongst the animals?

MyrtleLion · 25/02/2025 14:29

Well, I'd offer to make them tiny flower pots but it took ages.

😍

DeanElderberry · 25/02/2025 15:18

The best way to restore harmony among the animals is to cuddle anyone cuddly, admire gerbils that have developed a sense of purpose and a wish to be of service, and reassure the ferrets that there's plenty of tribble for everyone.

Regarding the historic Bluestockin Inn, as an archaeologist I'm used to raining on everyone's parade and saying no there isn't a secret underground tunnel from pretty much any ancient building to some other ancient building from a completely different period several miles away BUT

I find the theory about the connection between the storage cellar under the Smug Snugglers' Smugglers' Snug and the capybara's onsen up on the hill more convincing than most, and appreciate that they enjoy being able to get to the open water.

By the way, at this time of year the capybaras will be glad of anything (like ungrateful Beetle's rejected salad) that will boost their Vitamin C levels - autocoprophagy isn't enough on it's own when the vegetation is fallow.

wow Myrtle. Do you wear a mask? I'm imagining the horror of sneezing just as the last blossom is about to be placed.

I have literally never thought about this before. It's brilliant!

Fabulous!

Many thanks for the warm welcome, new friends. I’ve given the Westies the command to round up the tribbles and other troublesome rodents and such, but Westies are known for have selective hearing and a bad attitude, so we shall see.

In the meantime, bottoms up!

Wait, ferrets?? Are they all going in reverse?

Boiledbeetle · 25/02/2025 17:31

I feel the gerbils training is going to far. They seem to have lost the twinkle in their eye.

Meanwhile the local ferret cadet school has just bought the field next to the goats!

wow Myrtle. Do you wear a mask? I'm imagining the horror of sneezing just as the last blossom is about to be placed.

No, I wear an apron but have to keep reminding myself to work over the desk as I lose things to the floor.

The bottom rung of a ladder has disappeared. Unfortunately I have a brown speckled carpet and the rung is brown, so it's easy to lose things. I get a bright LED lamp and shine it under the desk.

I may not have found the rung, but I did find the brass fitting for the chandelier which disappeared after it had been threaded onto the light fitting. And I found a purple bead glued to a teeny tiny brass thimble that I lost on the previous booknook and replaced with spares.

I decided not to be precious about the look of things so I improvise a lot.

Magpiecomplex · 25/02/2025 18:04

Afternoon all. Large hot chocolate, large pizza, hypoallergenic something or other to cuddle please. Don't mind what as long as it's not going to bite or claw or slobber at me. Slight preference for the Giant Wombat.

It was a rush job so the pizza has blackberries on it. Abs the giant wombat is cuddling you because it sounds as though you need it. The hot chocolate is massive and will be served at the perfect temperature the whole way down, even if you leave it for a bit if you're full.

DeanElderberry · 25/02/2025 18:26

Oh dear, I hope the ferret cadets move away soon, I don't like that militaristic stuff.

But no real reason not to put blackberries on a pizza I suppose. Tomatoes are fruit, olives are fruit, pineapples are fruit. No-one complains about those. No-one.

Magpiecomplex · 25/02/2025 18:34

Thank you @MyrtleLion. I'm sure the blackberry pizza will be a culinary masterpiece to bring Heston Blumenthal to his knees!

FuzzyPuffling · 25/02/2025 18:56

Humphrey could your Westies ( very cute) please eject those men.
What are they doing in the Bluestocking in the first place?
Who's on security?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2025 18:57

Quite a few people do complain about pineapple on pizzas.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/02/2025 18:57

And may I have something cuddly for hug please?
I'm a bit exhausted by trying to be tactful about the politics of the band in which I sing. Ah, musical differences.
