Males may congregate in the nearby Staunch Ally and sometimes visit the stableyard to view outdoor performances by the gerbil waitstaff (who need to be distracted after the moment after that terrible 'misunderstanding' about the meaning of safe sex).

I've checked & Boily's not posted on MN since 25 Feb & on Twitter/X since 3 March. She took a break before & we all worried about her & then she breezed back in, so I'm hoping the same will happen this time.

Dogs are direct and straightforward, for the most part. While they can be vengeful, they're never vindictive. Simple revenge, nothing OTT, if they bother at all.

Whereas some cats... I knew one who made her brother's life an on-going misery, lying in wait for him behind doors and coshing him on the bonce for merely existing. All her wrath (and she had lots of it) she took out on him.

Though our last cat was lovely, not a malicious bone in his body. The one before, OTOH...

I love both our cats. They definitely have their own personalities, but both are loyal and loving bundles of fur.
They only like DH and me though, nobody else.

But if @DeanElderberry gets a dog, how will her cat respond?

Or maybe the dog will be proactive?

If you were a cat with a delightful companion who often played with him, and these games included waving an interesting small toy (knitting-needle-end) around in front of him for hours minutes on end, wouldn’t you be surprised if the game ended when you caught that end and demolished it? That’s 1- 0 to the cat in the first match.

There’s nothing at all wrong with a knitting needle with a rubber band wrapped many times round the non-pointy end of it, to stop the stitches falling off.

If you mourn the lack of symmetry between the two needles, then play the game again and the 🐈‍⬛ will gladly help you by removing the other end and making the score 2 - 0.

I love that cartoon. For many years, ours shopping lists were titled 'Fud' because of it.

Swash's picture shows dream dog, who will at some stage join the family one of these days, darling Oscar being sweet and good, and in the background, what looks like a black shadow, herself, primed to chomp the point off yet yet another knitting needle as soon as she gets the chance. Yes the pointed end! My lovely bamboo needle. I've done what I can with a knife and sandpaper.

Both the cats have lived with dogs so should be able to adjust, though Oscar may repeat the savage bite he gave me in protest when I brought Rosy home. In retrospect maybe he knew.

The worst any of our dogs has done when a new puppy has turned up is to give us indignant looks about ruining what they had regarded as a pleasant retirement.

It sounds as though Oscar immediately saw the newcomer for what she truly was.

Yes indeed, while the rest of ooohed and aaahed at the tiny little black scrap of fur he saw right through to inner agent of world domination.

I've also heard that she is hiding in the basement at the bluestocking pretending to be on holiday, because she wants to make sure that the one remaining tunnocks caramel wafer does not go missing

Surely the easiest way to ensure that would be to eat it? Boily's an intelligent beetle, she'd see that solution immediately!

The thing about rumours is, they are rumours. This is all hearsay. Who knows what Boily is actually up to at this moment?
