And here are all the wax melts.

The candles need a couple more days to cure.

Something weird happened to first image and I can't fix it.

MarieDeGournay · 19/02/2025 16:02

They are lovely, Myrtle, nice shapes - the ones I've seen in shops are boring flat things - hence my suspicion that they were slices of wick-less rejects😄

Britinme · 19/02/2025 14:09

@ErrolTheDragon I highly recommend a round brush hairdryer. I let my hair get almost dry and then take less than five minutes with one of those to get it turning under neatly (though I don't have a fringe).

Except firstly I CBA with that sort of thing and secondly I didn't want it turning under either though that would look less weird than turning out.

I probably need to get a proper grownup hairstyle at some point rather than 'trim the ends and a bit of shaping round the front'

lcakethereforeIam · 19/02/2025 16:54

@MyrtleLion they're too pretty to melt.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/02/2025 16:54

I am in awe of the Bluestockings with actual hair styles. I have never managed to get mine to do anything clever - the best I can hope for is ‘looks tidy’. I really need to go to the hairdresser - I have it cut short, and layered so it looks OK as it grows, but as usual I’ve left it too long so I’ve had to trim my fringe a couple of times to keep it out of my eyes. And now I am worried the hairdresser will judge my amateur efforts.

Myfluffyblanket · 19/02/2025 17:40

@MyrtleLion

Sorry Myrtle , I accidentally atted you and could not cancel it.
Your melts look lovely, by the way; good enough to eat.

Fortunately I found a [female] barber who cuts women's hair, and for about one-third the cost of an inferior cut at a hairdressers.
And I very quickly 'came out' to her as someone who trims the sides myself in between cuts, so I could get all the judging and disapproval over all in one goGrin
Maybe barbers are less judgy - she didn't tut-tut at all.

Magpiecomplex · 19/02/2025 18:12

Evening all. Make mine an extremely large one please, I've been marking ALL DAY.

Magpiecomplex · 19/02/2025 18:16

@MarieDeGournay my female barber is also very relaxed about me trimming my own fringe. Must be a thing. She's also extremely good at cutting a razor-sharp short bob, which most hairdressers seem to struggle with.

@Magpiecomplex one of the things I liked best after I stopped being a teacher was the ability to just come home from work and not have to think about it until I went in again the next day.

Yes, I can understand that! I wasn't always a teacher, and do fondly remember the days when I could just log off at 5!

Long day at work for me too. Just putting my feet up.

Lucky us! women's hairdressers must learn to cut hair short when they are training, but so few women have short hair these days, I suppose they lose the skill.
They also seem to be incapable of believing that a woman could possibly want hair cut short, so they 'interpret' what you want and do that instead😠and still charge you three times as much as a barber😡

I have good news!

I was emailed about an hour ago by the recruiter for one of the roles and offered an online interview with the recruiter next week!

Assuming I get through that, I will then be in the shortlisting process and potentially have an interview with the organisation and then get the job.

I have been here before and not got further than the recruiter interview, so I'm trying to be restrained, but I am definitely feeling more positive than I have been.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/02/2025 18:58

Brilliant news, @MyrtleLion - they will be lucky to have you!

DeanElderberry · 19/02/2025 18:59

That's very good. They've decided they like you, they just want to find the right place for you. That's in your interest too - you really don't want to take the wrong job just because it's there.

Swashbuckled · 19/02/2025 19:01

Yay! @MyrtleLion

Great news. I've everything crossed. Currently seeing two screens and starting a headache😉

FuzzyPuffling · 19/02/2025 19:14

Yay Myrtle. Well done! X

I've been on Dartmoor with family today. It was misty and very atmospheric. Bit Hound of the Baskervilles! I tried to post a photo but apparently it's too big. You'll just have to imagine mossy trees, granite boulders and frothy waterfalls.

If you go into the photo on your phone you can usually resize it. Save a copy so you don't overwrite the original xx
