If you go into the photo on your phone you can usually resize it. Save a copy so you don't overwrite the original xx

I wanna see it 😂

I'll put it in the whats app group, while I try to reduce it in size.

Yay Myrtle & Fuzzy, commiserations Magpie & Swash!

Wrt hairstyles, I'm happy to report that I cut my own hair last night so it's no longer waist length, & all is well. I normally only do the fringe but I just checked my old salon online & my fantastic stylist is no longer there, so I'm on my own now. My hair was looking ratty at the ends, so I went for it, an inch or so at a time. I was afraid I'd take a bit off one side, then a bit off the other trying to even them up & eventually end up with a bob again. But no! It's just under nork length (& we all know the girls go south with age, so that's nice & long) & tidy. I no longer trust hairdressers, having had my hair ruined by several of them, so this is how it's going to be now. Ah, the feeling of power & freedom!

I have good news!

I was emailed about an hour ago by the recruiter for one of the roles and offered an online interview with the recruiter next week!

Assuming I get through that, I will then be in the shortlisting process and potentially have an interview with the organisation and then get the job.

I have been here before and not got further than the recruiter interview, so I'm trying to be restrained, but I am definitely feeling more positive than I have been.

Excellent. Pressed your love button.

I've just been reading a thread on trending where the house owner has their heating set to 18 degrees!! People are saying it's to cold

There's me sitting in a short sleeved summer top sweating at mine. So I checked the temperature in the living room...

11 degrees Celsius. I'd be literally boiled at 18!

Mine is between 9 and 12 degrees. But I have a heated throw.

@Boiledbeetle Glad to learn you wander around random threads that are off topic so to speak.

was watching a proper punch up between two posters on “primary school punch AIBU” no less

did try and pull em apart but to no avail, just going back to see how it is going… think it might be a last word shoot out at the O.K Corral

That's a very unusual thermometer! Grin

I've had the heating off in the day, and only on at 18 in the evenings during this cold snap. But then I do have four layers on.

Still, it's going to be warm tomorrow and the rest of the week 😊

MyrtleLion · 19/02/2025 22:13

I will pay £££££££££££ for heating. But menopause means I do have a fan.

And DH wants to sleep in snow - well he is a walrus - so we have a fan on all night. He'll be in shorts very soon.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/02/2025 22:52

18 is too cold for me. We have our thermostat set at 18😕I have a blanket. Can you get cold flushes when you're menopausal? I quite enjoyed the hot ones.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/02/2025 23:14

I think peoples ability to regulate their temperature generally declines with age, we feel both the heat and the cold more than we used to

DH is a more sensitive beast than me, probably thanks to his meds. I prefer a cooler room than he does in the winter, but can tolerate a bit warmer than him in summer or on holiday.

Chersfrozenface · 20/02/2025 01:05

I think peoples ability to regulate their temperature generally declines with age, we feel both the heat and the cold more than we used to.

Anecdotally that is my personal experience. A quick Google finds a consensus in healthcare that this is the case. And it's well-known that older people suffer more in heat waves and cold weather

BTW, I found this while Googling, under "essential tips for older people this winter":
"NHS guidance states that rooms that are in regular use, for example bedrooms and living rooms, should be heated to at least 18°C in colder months."

Myfluffyblanket · 20/02/2025 02:53

@Chersfrozenface Temperature Dysregulation is also one of the more irritating symptoms of m.e. The menopause aka Climacteric(a much more positive term in my opinion)was bad enough but factor in the stupid random weather, cost of heating and the onset of old-age and we're done for.
Sunhat, gloves, sou' wester, bathing costume, Arran cardigan and galoshes is not a good look.
@Boiledbeetle step away from the AI photo generator thingy ; do not render my image thusly.

DeanElderberry · 20/02/2025 08:11

Fingerless gloves and woolly poncho are my winter uniform, but I do try to keep the living room temperature above 16.

I have my own thermometer, it is 'are my fingers blue [it's too cold] or itchy [its too hot]'.

But this winter I bought an electric blankie and the joy of being able to put it on the take the edge off, in the middle of the night, is glorious. Even 15 mins is enough.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2025 08:54

Have you been at my photos of boating holidays? Fleece rather than nice cardi though, and crocs or boots. I don't think I've ever been entirely clear what galoshes are tbh.

Electric blankets are lovely, a warm bed in a slightly cool room is ideal.

DeanElderberry · 20/02/2025 09:14

A bloke I knew years ago (early 80s) wore galoshes on an archaeological field trip in the Boyne Valley and became known for years afterwards 'the man who wears condoms on his feet'.

lcakethereforeIam · 20/02/2025 10:25

Are glosses shoes you wear over your shoes? I don't believe I've ever seen a pair in real life. Can they still be bought? And where does the name come from? Is it onomatopoeic? I can imagine them making that sound when walking around in them. Is it always plural?

DeanElderberry · 20/02/2025 10:32

Yes, they're overshoes. The only ones I ever saw in action were those ones worn by JB in, I now think, 1979. They were regarded as a strange novelty even then - we had heard of such things, but preferred the trusty 'wellies in a plastic bag that you can change into' option. They didn't look comfortable or particularly practical - the bottom of his trousers got all muddy as we tramped across a ploughed field looking for worked flints etc.
