The Blue Stockings Society was founded by women emphasising education and mutual cooperation. Men could attend as invited guests, but in this Women's Pub, they are only welcome to peer enviously through the windows.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Stockings_Society

All women welcome!

All tastes catered for.

All food containing calories will not increase waistlines.

All drink containing alcohol will not intoxicate beyond the mildy merry and slightly inhibited stage. Guaranteed no hangovers.

Don't mind the gerbils, hamster, capybaras, quokkas and other assorted rodents. They're all female, all staff and very accommodating...

cats

why do we love them so?

Dear Hector (the cat)1 in his last years took to spraying into the sockets and shorting out all the electricity. I can only assume it gave him some sort of thrill.

1 Not to be confused with Dear Hector (the dog) who was also both sweet and dimwitted.

Little darlings aren't they! My neighbours cat did that to her electric sockets!

At least it's given me an excuse to get rid of the four cushion covers and matching throw that I haven't used since about 2006. I'm buggered if I'm taking them to be dry cleaned! Into a bin bag they go! It's the sponge clean that's peed me off. It's the wrong time of year to think sod it I'll just bung it in the washing machine as the innards will dry in this heat!

Do you call all your animals 'Hector', Deano?? Grin
Wasn't there a Monty Python sketch with a character who called all his pets Eric, culminating in the touching lovesong 'Eric the Half a Bee' ['bisected accidentally one summer afternoon by me']?

I think it’s for employees who don’t move quickly enough. They stand still in silent contemplation.

That would be me, then. I've been rumbled!

Ah there you all are! Back on Chat Street, I see. I dillied and dallied, dallied and dillied, I lost my way and then .. I followed the van link and here I amSmile
Hello all, and ..Seaside1234 - have we met already? lovely to see you here, you're most welcome, and I'm glad the gerbils sorted you out with your infusion of choice.
....oh for heaven's sake, there are already a kerjillion posts since I started this one - no, I mustn't exaggerate, not a kerjillion, just 70 million, according to lifeturnsonadime's calculationsGrin

lifeturnsonadime - have we met? have I made TWO new chums at the Bluestocking this evening? Smile

Anyway, back to the fairground with the gerbil-infested candy-floss, or something....

Yes Marie, we've definitely met , as it were. Thanks for the welcome!

I've never been brave enough to come for a drink though, often because I feel late to the party!

The fat rat felt well jell of the hamsters in hard hats so.... not to be out done...

Where is the rat?

Please come for a drink. You are so welcome! What would you like?

Oops I mentioned earlier in the thread that I was coming along with a retriever and a terrier affectionately known as fatty ratty!

The rat is a dog!

The magic of MN means the thread has moved!

I'm very impressed because I was awake most of the night and didn't notice the works going on outside.

I love those little gerbil hard hats, especially the variations around the ear area.

Why are most of them holding ice hockey sticks? Were they for nudging the tribbles along from our old location?

DeanElderberry · 30/01/2025 14:43

@MarieDeGournay Do you call all your animals 'Hector', Deano??

No, I call some of them Gus.

and Róisín Dubh, and Oscar, and Albertine, and long long ago, Suzy.

The rat is a dog!

You know, this explains a lot.

Not many dogs (apart from Colin), Missing hard hats,
42 subterranean levels dug very speedily
Complete following of instructions.

So glad you sent them ahead @lifeturnsonadime .

You're always welcome. A gerbil will be along with a large glass shortly.

Fatty Ratty is adorable and clearly has that Sense Of Purpose that is such a terrier thing.

Though even the smallest terrier can be a pocket-sized Noble Poble if need arises.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/01/2025 16:00

I've been in the V&A today plus a walk around Hyde and Kensington parks. Enough there to qualify this as Statuary Leave for sure.

Magpiecomplex · 30/01/2025 16:14

DH has suggested that Statuary Leave may relate to Weeping Angels!

lcakethereforeIam · 30/01/2025 16:17

Acanthus is a statuary leave.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/01/2025 16:24

Ah, level 42 is completed. Thanks Fatty Ratty, that's a lesson in love.

DeanElderberry · 30/01/2025 16:41

lcakethereforeIam · 30/01/2025 16:17

Acanthus is a statuary leave.

Don't lift that fig lea . . . . .

oh, too late

MyrtleLion · 30/01/2025 16:57

And the model is also complete! The factory sign should have lit up but I damaged the string. And the balls provided are too big to run through. I'm now looking for small marbles...

That appears to be a train line. Is this the Bluestocking/Mornington Crescent crossover episode?

😕sorry about that, I didn't recognise the username, though you are of course, in person, unforgettable.
May I get you a drink to make up for not recognising you?

Thank you, gerbils!
That's me hiding behind the Chambertin. I can't claim to be able to recognise Bluestockingers by their norkage, but that definitely isn't mine, so by process of elimination that must be you on the left, lifeturnsonadime Grin

Oh I've got the norkage for real! Not the looks nor the dress sense though, sigh!

You know, I was absolutely certain that Gemini would refuse to create this image, or get it spectacularly wrong @lifeturnsonadime!
