The Blue Stockings Society was founded by women emphasising education and mutual cooperation. Men could attend as invited guests, but in this Women's Pub, they are only welcome to peer enviously through the windows.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Stockings_Society

All women welcome!

All tastes catered for.

All food containing calories will not increase waistlines.

All drink containing alcohol will not intoxicate beyond the mildy merry and slightly inhibited stage. Guaranteed no hangovers.

Don't mind the gerbils, hamster, capybaras, quokkas and other assorted rodents. They're all female, all staff and very accommodating...

Where is FWR? I don't recognise the acronym.

There are two sub-topics under feminism: feminism:chat and feminism:Sex and gender discussions.

The latest Bluestocking is under "chat" which nobody visits. "Sex and gender discussions" is colloquially known as FWR (Feminism and Women's Rights) and is an active and vigorous topic. Those of us who only access MumsNet through the app cannot easily monitor both.

MyrtleLion · 29/01/2025 23:19

Thanks. I've asked MN to move the thread.

Goodness when TB ups and packs its bags to a new location it does so in a flash. Right, I’ve worked late and I’m fed up with everything so I’m sulking off to a corner with a stiff drink. I always wanted to be sophisticated and like drinking scotch. Here I bet every drink tastes perfect so I’ll nurse a scotch in the corner.

I had not appreciated the distinction between "feminism: chat and feminism: Sex and gender discussions" until trying to read the Site Stuff thread about FWR.

Head still spinning ... had to abandon my mission to read it. Too many specious arguments, weaselly backstabbings and trying to teach grandmothers to suck eggs.

<sigh> very happy to be back in the Bluestocking now.

Don't worry Myrtle, I made exactly the same mistake two threads ago. It's very easy to do, thanks to the way the board links appear at the top of the thread.

ah yes, MN claimed it was lost down the side of the sofa, but it was just moving to its usual home.

No harm moving it round a little, brings in more customers.

Once upon a time there was one board for discussing 'Feminism and Women's Rights', thus named. Then it got split into different sections (theory, books, can't remember what else) then rationalised back into one. And then split in two at the behest of people who didn't like the emphasis on issues around gender (which had arisen as a result of the rise of transactivism) but then these people don't seem to have started the many interesting other discussions on other feminist topics they said they wanted - they still happen on this board of course. Which if you look at the links is under the hood still FWR.

<stomps in>

So the cat for inexplicable reasons peed under the bed in the middle of the night. I did call out the 24 hour emergency gerbils, but they were too far into sugar withdrawal to be of much use.

Can I borrow some that didn't go on a bender last night?

And the cat only picked up the mop for the photo. She is not helping. AT ALL!

I'm marking again. One student has included a section on Statuary Leave. 😳

What the hell was the question they were answering? If gerbil related I hope the student also included the fact that the gerbils have unionised.

Magpiecomplex · 30/01/2025 10:51

It was a mangled autocarrot from statutory leave. Amusing though!

Would that be paid holidays to go to, say, Florence and Rome?

Or time off to prepare and perform tableaux vivants?

DeanElderberry · 30/01/2025 10:54

If it was the cat that peed, why is there a puddle under the beetle?

I think it’s for employees who don’t move quickly enough. They stand still in silent contemplation.

I so wish this was an actual thing!

lcakethereforeIam · 30/01/2025 11:19

Wow! The gerbil on the pillow has really crashed.

MyrtleLion · 30/01/2025 11:40

The magic of MN means the thread has moved!

I'm very impressed because I was awake most of the night and didn't notice the works going on outside.

Water from the bucket! Obvs. Nothing to do with being a beetle of a certain age who neglects her pelvic floor exercises and has just had a coughing fit!

I've found the source! Did she pee on, by or under the waterproof bags. No she did not she managed to hit two fabric bags containing dry clean and sponge clean only items.

And breathe and loud scream and relax.

AlisonDonut · 30/01/2025 11:48

Oh my goddess are the gerbils on speed?

MyrtleLion · 30/01/2025 11:54

I think it's still the sugar high.

They do look adorable in high-vis and hard hats but they really should be wearing totecters too.

I've seen one of the major players in the telecoms industry in the UK referred to repeatedly as British Talcum...🙄

cats

why do we love them so?

Dear Hector (the cat)1 in his last years took to spraying into the sockets and shorting out all the electricity. I can only assume it gave him some sort of thrill.

1 Not to be confused with Dear Hector (the dog) who was also both sweet and dimwitted.
