The Blue Stockings Society was founded by women emphasising education and mutual cooperation. Men could attend as invited guests, but in this Women's Pub, they are only welcome to peer enviously through the windows.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Stockings_Society

All women welcome!

All tastes catered for.

All food containing calories will not increase waistlines.

All drink containing alcohol will not intoxicate beyond the mildy merry and slightly inhibited stage. Guaranteed no hangovers.

Don't mind the gerbils, hamster, capybaras, quokkas and other assorted rodents. They're all female, all staff and very accommodating...

Thank you everyone. You're right inkymoose, it does feel like real friendship.

I was supposed to see my mum today but she's ill. My SIL has outrageously got a friend staying so she's not around and DH is having work issues. This place feels so warm and welcoming. I wish I'd joined years ago, but I thought it was for mothers, when really it's for women.

I have so much fun here because women speak so differently to each other and I don't have that. DH heard me laughing at the dragon thread earlier and asked what was funny. Which I couldn't explain. I just told him that when women get together we are very funny and he mock outragedly said it's not possible as women are notoriously not funny, so I told him that was because we're not funny around men.

Yes wit knobs on, love and support to you all whomsoever you really are and thanks for all the fun, the support and the insights.

I avoided it for years as I wasn't a parent and had no intention of ever being a parent. And I'm still not a parent and never will be, but I clicked a link one day and haven't left since. I did start off in AIBU, then Relationships before lurking here for a good while before posting. I honestly wish I'd visited the site years earlier!

Those are exactly the threads I follow. Along with the mysterious and exotic life I lead on Mornington Crescent.

I like the Gardening board a lot.
I pick up random threads from Active, don't bother with any which already have a lot of posts ...not sure it's a good habit tbh.

Boiledbeetle · 05/02/2025 23:08

I do occasionally end up on odd boards if a thread appears in trending. And I find the step parent board fascinating.

I've avoided step-parenting. I read too much about women on AIBU saying "my house, my rules, my 35 year old DSS must shower every day, get up at 8am and bow respectfully every time he sees me". And my immediate reaction is I'd like to see you try!

I know it's not great that my own DSD doesn't do these things (especially the bowing), but this is her home too, and she's an adult. She's not someone I can order around. Though I should definitely insist on more bowing.

There is a gardening board? <off to look for it >

I landed on MN looking for an answer to a legal question regarding the 2015 consumer rights Act.

My finger hovered over the feminist board for a while because at the back of my brain i knew i needed to know,

I knew there was a problem i knew i was sticking my head in the sand,

I knew i would dive back into the sea of feminism and politics, and i knew i would have no way back to the safety of oblivion

what i did not know was this place is where i could pull all my thoughts together to defragment my storage in my brain.

to be who i used to be before i left womens rights services.

A self rediscovery.

Hellooooo? bit echo-y here this morning - oh of course, it's the Works Outing to the big match in Fife today😉
I hope the result is similar to the historical 'East Fife 4 Forfar 5' 😄

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/02/2025 12:11

I thought it was East Fife, five, Forfar, so far, four.

Magpiecomplex · 06/02/2025 12:32

Continued training for me today. I can't remember when I was last as bored...

I thought it was East Fife, five, Forfar, so far, four.

Well, there's quite a story about that.

Apparently Eric Morecambe used to greet James Alexander Gordon in Broadcasting House, by reciting East Fife 4 Forfar 5. "Eric never called me James,” Gordon recalled in an interview in 2012. “Whenever I saw him over a 20-year period, he would say ‘East Fife 4 Forfar 5’.

That was never a score between the two teams. However on 22 June 1964 they played each other at Forfar's ground and Forfar won 5-4.

So the saying should be Forfar 5 East Fife 4.

I think Myrtle is trying to undercut @Boiledbeetle!

Weeeelllllll......

There could be a logarithmic scale involved. No teacakes for the Forfar 5 East Fife 4 research, then one for the next bit of research, then twelvety billion for the next one etc. Perfectly logical.

I take it back. That's entirely the sort of pricing scheme Boily would come up with!

I am building my Lego cherry blossom models. I had forgotten how stressful building Lego is - I am following a YouTube tutorial, and it is still a major fight.

I have completed the two bare stems, now I need to assemble the flowers and put them on. Please send Baileys. Lots of Baileys. In fact, if there is a Baileys bowser - just send that, please!

You star, @MyrtleLion - thank you!

I have finished my Lego, and drunk my Baileys. I haven't done that much fine motor stuff for ages - it is stupidly tiring! It looks vair pretty though. I would put up a boastful picture, if MN would let me.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/02/2025 15:24

In other news - my physio has suggested daily meditation, and I have just done today’s session. It is not easy to meditate when there is a cat standing on your chest, licking your chin! He has no sense of boundaries or personal space.

He’s resting his chin on my right hand whilst I type this. I have suggested he should feck off. He has not fecked off.

Edited

That's an unpardonable lacuna, given that the internet is made of cats.
