Newly renovated, beautifully appointed. Food and Beverages, excellent (if sometimes unexpected service), delightful clientele, special accommodation for invalids, pedants, readers and normal people.

I've never heard of these...have now, off to Google!

lcakethereforeIam · 29/01/2025 11:28

I've seen these, there's also a line of wee shops(?) and book nooks, all of which look like craft crack. If I were to start somewhere I think it would be one of the book nooks but I don't have room😢

Has anyone tried warming Baileys?

Edited

I bought my sister one last year, don't know if she's done it yet! But she appeared delighted to receive it (she had indicated she wanted one)

Does Bailey's warming inside your body count?

I'm an AFOL, personally. Currently building the Milky Way and have Rivendell waiting!

No.

Those little shops/rooms look adorable. Very fiddly though. Lucky sister.

@Magpiecomplex pics?

Milky Way is being built in sections!

Those models are amazing, @MyrtleLion - I have looked at those as something dh might like as a present, but I once bought him a die-cut brass model of a locomotive to make, and it is still in its box. He did make out a detailed spreadsheet of how he would assemble it, but that's as far as it got.

I can't talk, though - I recently treated myself to a Lego model of two sprigs of cherry blossom, that are still waiting to be made. I did try to make the first one, sitting on the couch, with tiny bits of Lego on my lap, but I lost a vital part down the sofa cushions, and once I had taken the cushions off to get it back, I was scunnered with the whole thing, so rammed it back in the box.

I had forgotten how useless the instructions in Lego models are - we once bought Dumbledore's office, a potions classroom, and the Hogwarts Express Lego models for the boys, for Christmas. We were at mum's for Christmas that year, and on Boxing Day, I ended up assembling them all - I was a whisker away from throwing Dumbledore's office on the floor, and jumping up and down on it in furious tears, when my mum gave me the biggest glass of sherry I have ever seen. And she very rarely drank, so didn't provide lots of alcohol, so I must have looked really stressed!

MyrtleLion · 29/01/2025 12:43

Thank you for the compliments! I hadn't realised the Bluestocking had so many crafters. Though having seen the extent of the many craft floors, I should have worked it out
I just thought they were all for me!
I think I'll try a book nook next.
I went back to the model and my fingertips are sore from pressing so hard 😩
The AFOL site looks good though. Not sure where I'll put the finished items. I just like putting them together. Though the calendar and jewellery box see daily use.
And at £30 averagish it's not a cheap hobby...

DeanElderberry · 29/01/2025 13:16

understanding and following detailed instructions, manual dexterity, tool-handling... the skills most little girls don't get a chance to acquire.

or acquire via knitting and crochet patterns and recipes

I massively admire the models, but don't underestimate the skills required for traditional 'female' activities.

I don't make models but I've done a lot of knitting and embroidery, and more recently I've discovered pottery and revisited the linocut stuff I did during Art A level.

Evening all. Just catching up on the recent thread in Site Stuff and was amused to see @Helleofabore being criticised for being too harsh, when I've criticised her in the past for being too soft 👀

Magpiecomplex · 29/01/2025 17:28

I grew up doing dressmaking and Lego. Both require many of the same skills. When the Reception teacher came for the home visit for younger son (age 4 at the time, for readers unfamiliar with current English primary schools), he excitedly showed her the Lego model he'd recently finished. Her comment to me was "I have no concerns about his hand eye coordination, then!".

Bannedontherun · 29/01/2025 17:33

@TinselAngel i was on the sit in/filibuster

was quite bereft when it was all over.

I KNOW! But if you look at some of the people who are in that discussion, you might see someone who, iirc, also accused me of always agreeing with you and demanded that I produce a post where I didn't agree with you or something like that. That was one weird fucking thread. It was like someone thought they were back in school and that if you didn't agree with someone sometimes but didn't make a huge song and dance about hating them for the things that you don't agree with them about, you were deemed a worshipper.

It is such a fucked up way to think about things.

But that thread on that other site is very laughable really.

I don't know if this is auspicious but today is the start of the year of the snake 🐍

DeanElderberry · 29/01/2025 18:46

It was a bit baffling, that thread. I wondered was there some ancient significance - I did notice that when someone eventually dug out a posted justifying their complaint it was four years old. Or maybe five. It reminded me that as a newbie I really have no idea what's what.

I have not the faintest idea what the last few posts, or the " other thread". Feeling addled, might a passing gerbil bring me a soothing hot choc please?

Nobody can be sure but i think the thread was set up to target Helle in particular because of being the data champion, with the intention of posting screenshots on Reddit to prove what evil transphobes we all are.

For a lark i posted a transphobic diatribe saying i was just that, but did not get a bite. Got deleted of course.

No idea if it is on Reddit but if it is i could not care any less.

DeanElderberry · 29/01/2025 19:49

Puffers, you're as well off, it was in Site Stuff, whingeing about FWR for no obvious reason. I could see spiteful swipes at Helle for what they were, and did remember someone doing something similar, but didn't understand it then either.

But remember that back then I posted a link to something like this, to show how wondrous Helle[ofa]bores are.

I read the op of that thread, decided life was too short and left it alone.

I've never been a fan of hellebores (the plant) but one has appeared unbidden in my garden this year which seems to be a nice non-dingy colour.

Bannedontherun · 29/01/2025 20:02

@DeanElderberry oh i remember that was’t that butterfly calling Helle, Helen as did not get it at all.

Butterfly obvs not involved in the queer gardening project. lol

all hail to queen Hellofabore, for finding out everything and giving a proper data slap to anyone talking twaddle.

Bannedontherun · 29/01/2025 20:02

Oh Errol i want to flame you but think you’d would win..
