Newly renovated, beautifully appointed. Food and Beverages, excellent (if sometimes unexpected service), delightful clientele, special accommodation for invalids, pedants, readers and normal people.

Just trying to cope with the idea of Gin in a hot chocolate. Rum: definitely. Whisky: oh yes. Brandy: OK.

Really not sure about any other spirit. And don't try to trick me with Bailey's or Cointreau. They ain't spirits.

But am I OK to use baileys instead of milk in my coffee when I "run out" of milk?

Magpiecomplex · 28/01/2025 21:22

This one is pretty terrifying, @Boiledbeetle!

I thought one was supposed to use cheese in this situation?

it's the most what I was after one of the three but also It's like they are trying to look scary for the camera but you just know they collapsed into fits of giggles a second later!

I only have Stilton in the house!

Magpiecomplex · 28/01/2025 21:50

Wasn't that the suggestion, early in lockdown, from one of the holier than thou shopping-disinfecters on MN? Milk wasn't an essential purchase, so if you run out you should put cheese in your coffee.

Magpiecomplex · 28/01/2025 21:52

Stilton coffee does sound like it might be quite an, um, acquired taste...

lcakethereforeIam · 28/01/2025 21:54

Thankfully I don't take milk in my tea or coffee, so I don't have to test this. I've made coffee for other people when the milk's turned but not all the way to cheese.

I have spent the day making a ROKR model that has been sat on my desk for nearly a year. Annoyingly I broke one of the strings of lights but it doesn't really matter. And I had to redo a stage from 5 pages ago that I had put together in March 2024. So I was very absorbed.
I had meant to do some more AI checking because it pays, but got carried away. I did think it would be perfect to do while listening to an audiobook but it requires so much focused attention I couldn't concentrate on the story.

Gosh, I'd not come across those, there look to be some wonderful models. Is yours as depicted, a merry-go-round?

Britinme · 29/01/2025 03:17

Baileys in hot chocolate sounds suitably degenerate for denizens of the Bluestocking.

Magpiecomplex · 29/01/2025 07:21

Degenerate? Moi?! 😱

One word, Myrtle: wow. Well two, actually: 'wow' followed by 'reespect!'

MyrtleLion · 29/01/2025 10:42

FuzzyPuffling · 29/01/2025 10:36

Yes! It comes with small coloured balls that look like gobstoppers, so about the same size. I haven't checked if they're actually sweets, though.

I would recommend putting the Maltesers in the fridge first because you wouldn't want to leave any chocolate in the machine.

I have a clock but one of the hands broke and I've mislaid the instructions 😔

MyrtleLion · 29/01/2025 10:53

There is a merry-go-round!

https://rokr.robotime.com/product/rokr-romantic-carousel-amk62/

But my DH gets them as presents because he knows it's something I like. And birthday is in the autumn. He didn't get me any in 2024 because I hadn't finished the chocolate factory. He's quite pleased I've gone back to it as he's always stuck for what to get me. 🤣

MarieDeGournay · 29/01/2025 10:58

Fantastic work!

I have two similar kits stockpiled from a couple of birthdays and Christmasses ago, but they are still in their boxes as I don't really have the space to make them.

My kitchen table is my workbench, so I tend to make little scale models of things, usually 1:24 scale as I know people with 1:24 dolls houses, so there's an outlet for my otherwise destination-less and space-filling scale-modellingSmile

All those childhood Airfix kits were a great training ground - understanding and following detailed instructions, manual dexterity, tool-handling... the skills most little girls don't get a chance to acquire.

I get really lost in the process. I love it.

I am waiting for some wood glue to arrive today before getting back to it. They can be made without glue, but the pieces can be fragile and break as they're pressed out or as they're inserted. I have a couple of pieces that need glue!

Boiledbeetle · 29/01/2025 11:11

I have yet to start on the ROKR beetle I bought last year!
