Newly renovated, beautifully appointed. Food and Beverages, excellent (if sometimes unexpected service), delightful clientele, special accommodation for invalids, pedants, readers and normal people.

As a woman of 5'8" ( so tal but not bonkersly so) I an having a new rule come the revolution.
You're not allowed to go out with anyone more than 5" taller than yourself, thereby maintaining the height averages and leaving the tall.blokes for us tall women.

You'll have to change that to 6" inches' height difference, as that has pretty consistently been the difference between average male and female heights in the UK.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2025 12:30

It's my world, I can stick to 5" if I choose!! Waaaah < stamps foot in the style of all the best dictators>

DeanElderberry · 26/01/2025 12:32

nah, sorry, not having that

lcakethereforeIam · 26/01/2025 12:36

I have to be mean. Make it 5 1/2".

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2025 12:43

Nope, 5" stays. Otherwise us poor tall women have a much reduced pool of men. You shorties will always find someone taller!

I'm 5'7½" (the half inch is very important!) and I support you, Fuzzy. Personally I prefer a smaller height difference so I don't crick my neck, but no more than 5" sounds perfect.

Oh.

I'm 5'7 (and a half)", so relatively tall for a woman.

DH is 6'3". He's a walrus, if you're interested.

And he's all MINE.

DeanElderberry · 26/01/2025 13:01

Very much looking forward to the image of a lioness defending her walrus from a tall puffin and assorted riffraff.

Tall riffraff.

Don't worry Cake, Magpie has already admitted that she's not a real scientist, she's a plant scientist, presumably spying on the real ones and reporting back to.. well to the Bluestocking, apparentlyGrin

Damn, I've been rumbled. I should have known someone here would see through my clever ruse!

Edited

When I met him he was wider than he is now, so this is like a before and after picture.

Puffin brought other tall puffins. But AI couldn't make them taller than me and my walrus.

@MyrtleLion Mr Magpie is 5'10", if we average out both our husbands then the 5" rule is preserved, I think? Just don't let Fuzzy know about our creative statistics <<<<sssshhhh>>>>

Rumbled? You actually wrote I'm a plant scientist! That's not exactly top undercover spywork, now is it?. You obviously thought that being a spy meant wearing sharp plumage and saying 'The name is Complex. Magpie Complex' with a slight Scottish accent. You're fired!

Ah, but it could have been a double bluff!

What's this 'averaging out of husbands' business? Does it involve putting your car keys into a bowl? I fear the Tone is being Lowered at the BluestockingGrin

Purely hypothetical, I assure you! No car keys involved. Or bowls.

Well, I'm not joining in. DH doesn't even drive! 😁

Mr Myrtle before and after

That's the walrus in the Horniman Museum! They didn't know what it looked like so they stuffed it all, because they didn't know it had wrinkles.

It is sort of a good representation of his size though 🤣

No matter what I tried, I couldn't get puffins bigger than Myrtle or her walrus. This one tickled me though 🤣

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2025 13:26

Ha ha ha, look at that dinky walrus! 😂

Britinme · 26/01/2025 14:25

I'm 5'7" and DH is (or used to be - he's 82 now so he's shrunk a bit) 6'4" so we break the 5" rule I'm afraid. His DD is 6'1" and seems to have had a fair number of partners around the same height. Her adult DD is about 5'10" though so trending back towards the average. My boys are both taller than their dad was, who was just under 6', but my DD is a couple of inches smaller than me - pretty much her DGM's height.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2025 14:32

My mum was 5'8" too, but shrunk a bit with old age. She was horrified when a journalist described her in print as a "small lady".

MarieDeGournay · 26/01/2025 15:14

Magpiecomplex · 26/01/2025 13:15

Purely hypothetical, I assure you! No car keys involved. Or bowls.

That's disappointing. I was hoping for a car-keys-in-bowl husband-swap orgy, and as I don't have a husband, I was going to nick all your cars😆
Oh well...
