Is she saying the GRA affects say, the old sex discrimination act and therefore that in that law, the words women and men include those holding a GRC ie the word women in that law includes women and men with a GRC? Or am I hopelessly confused?

By pointing them to the father / mother provisions is she not demonstrating that the GRA is not for "all purposes"?

Watching the judge's face just now as she was trying to frame a question – she was struggling all over the place as to how to ask what she wanted to know. If this is what the legislation has brought Supreme Court judges to, then quite honestly it's unsupportable.

It is profoundly wrong that this 'oh-so-clever' linguistic and philosophical twisting of language and thought is being imposed on, and is impacting, real people and their lives.

The questions the judges are asking seem pretty basic. You'd have thought any decent barrister would have seen them coming.

Yes, there are exceptions. And 9(3) says that other laws can exclude the effect of the GRA. What she’s saying is, this is how you exclude it if you want to, they haven’t done that in the Equality Act.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with that. But it’s patently a mistake not to have done so in the EA.
