Scaramouche, Galileo, Thunderbolt, Lightning, Figaro, Fandango ... all excellent names for gerbils😄

I am looking forward to the next thread - the one where AI is banned.

NEVER!!!!!!!

Dancing toast! Only in the Bluestocking.
Is the gerbil serving a plate of dry toast with a single baked bean on it? Perhaps best for poorly tummy.

lcakethereforeIam · 05/12/2024 23:51

They probably misread the order.

AlisonDonut · 06/12/2024 05:45

<I've never had (one or more) beans on toast>

<Runs away as nobody believes me>

ErrolTheDragon · 06/12/2024 07:49

I've never got the point of cooking nice crunchy toast and then making it soggy. I'm partial to a bowl of Heinz 5 beanz with some smoked paprika and Tabasco and cheese crumbled in it, with toast not on it.

I Know right, it makes no sense! Surely your method, and my method of having a bowl of beans, cooked with a knob of butter, and two completely separate slices of toast makes much more sense!

There is nothing worse than the soggy toast that has had half a tin of baked beans unceremoniously dumped in it!

OP posts:
MarieDeGournay · 06/12/2024 10:36

Beans BESIDE toast - yes! Deliberately making a delicious slice of toast into a soggy mess is indefensible. I'm so glad that nobody here would dream of committing such an odious act <sweeps the room with a threatening look>

FuzzyPuffling · 06/12/2024 10:45

I love beans on toast, especially with grated cheddar on top.

lcakethereforeIam · 06/12/2024 11:05

Heinz spaghetti bolognese on toast for preference, but beans will do in a pinch especially with a fried egg on the beans. Cheese is okay but needs Worcestershire Sauce to really elevate it.

Btw, has anyone seen the shrew? I last saw her yesterday. She was looking a little upset. She squeaked she was okay but...I wish I'd kept a better eye on her.

MarieDeGournay · 06/12/2024 11:30

I thought the shrew was only here for a job interview, and unfortunately we did not see an opening at the moment.... no, those holes in the skirting boards are not that kind of opening, Ms Shrew..

I realise now I misread Boily's roll-call
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me
(Galileo) Galileo, (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo Figaro, magnifico

and in fact there are TWO gerbils called Scaramouche, and FIVE gerbils all called Galileo, and I missed off Magnifico - apologies, Mag.
And then there's Dancer and Comet who identify as reindeer, and Vixen who identifies as a fox. Or a reindeer. We haven't dared probe too deeply..

I hope that clears things up😜

lcakethereforeIam · 06/12/2024 11:33

I think some of the feedback the shrew received was a little personal.

Also, Beelzebub is feeling overlooked.

I used to love beans on toast, but Heinz have changed the recipe for their tomato sauce, and it seems watery and tasteless to me. Even their BBQ beans sauce has deteriorated. Same goes for the spaghetti hoops in tomato sauce - that was a favourite lunch too - on well buttered toast, so the sauce soaked into the toast ...... mmmmmm!

When we lived out in the Shropshire hills, we used to get mice in the house. One of them got into the cupboard where mum was storing the Christmas pudding she'd made, for the following Christmas, and ate some of it - mum was Not Impressed. And one night, she'd gone to bed, leaving dad to watch TV, and realised it had got late and he still hadn't come to bed, so she went to find him.

He was fast asleep in his chair, with his legs stretched out in front of him. The cat was asleep beside him, and there was a mouse sitting on his foot, cleaning its whiskers and watching the boxing on TV. Mum didn't wake dad up - she woke the cat instead, who spotted the mouse, and leapt onto dad's foot with all 668 claws fully out, to try to catch the mouse. The mouse scarpered and dad woke up as all the claws landed in his foot at once. 😂

FuzzyPuffling · 06/12/2024 13:11

Excellent story, Woley. I can just picture it..!

You are such a fabulous storyteller. Your poor dad 😂

AlisonDonut · 06/12/2024 14:18

I can't stand crunchy food that has gone soft. I can eat beans with chips for example.

DeanElderberry · 06/12/2024 14:58

Updates dossier - Donut not a dunker.

AlisonDonut · 06/12/2024 15:02

True. Although weirdly I can do the Tim Tam thing just fine.

lcakethereforeIam · 06/12/2024 16:44

I found the shrew, Katherine, coincidentally Beelzebub was looking after her. He had a table put aside.

She's so needy! Constantly snacking. Demands reassurance all the time. Talk about highly strung.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 06/12/2024 17:24

I've been food shopping again with DH & his voucher. We didn't get near the minimum spend this time & DH seems to have the idea that using vouchers is somehow immoral.

This week he went off on his own to get something which is always on a 3 for 2 mix'n'match offer. They never seem to have 3 of what we want, & when they've got two he just buys two & doesn't look for anything else which would be free. It drives me round the bend. Last time he did it, I was with him & managed to snatch a third thing before he marched off to the till. This time, they had three of what we needed. Yowza! (I'd schooled him rigorously beforehand on what to get as a third thing & how imperative it was not to pay full price for stuff unnecessarily.)

I thought I was up to date with the thread. I remember the shrew but who is Beelzebub of the Bluestocking?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 06/12/2024 17:29

Btw, re: marzipan - in case you don't open the image, Niederegger Christmas items are money off, as well as free shipping.

One of the gerbils with names taken from Bohemian Rhapsody.
