I'm still struggling with marmots being squirrels.

Just been out in the wild and ran back in swiftly as was scared by some Queer Botany, concepts.

Glad to be back to some level of normality.

Bannedontherun · 15/11/2024 21:21

@Boiledbeetle 😂😂😂

Inspirational thought for the week is Be More Capybara

FuzzyPuffling · 15/11/2024 21:28

Urk. I just read the Queer Botany thread.

Befuddled, discombobulated, loadsabollox.

Off to a capybara spa ( Capyspara?) to soak with some oranges.

There's definitely a market for a series of animal themed meditative posters.

Saw this @Magpiecomplex and thought of you.

Glad the BBC are still dedicated to reporting the important stories <coughWPATHfilescough>

So glad your relative is safe and well, Magpie, what an ordeal, and how wonderful that the BBC is on top of the really important news storiesWink
I hope their lovely plumage has survived intact - as you know I'm a great admirer of magpies, such elegant birds, they always appear dressed impeccably for dinner if I throw an old crust of bread outSmile
I had a fascinating confrontation in my back garden recently:
two seagulls swooped in to pick up crusts, and four magpies challenged them, making repeated runs forward towards them, doing that ack-ack-ack call - no actual contact, just threatening advances towards them.
The seagulls - big bruisers of birds - decided to pick up just one crust each and retreat, and the magpies snaffled the rest. Game set and match to the magpies! Fearless as well as elegant.

And yes I know they eat other animals, but so do many of you😏

Looking around at that picture of the book-filled snug while I'm reading my birthday-present-to-myself, the latest Donna Andrews Meg Langslow book, prompted me to look at earlier titles. I know one person's enjoyable comfort reads is another person's ghastly unreadable dross, but surely a series that includes: Murder with Puffins, The Hen of the Baskervilles, Duck the Halls, Gone Gull, Toucan Keep a Secret and the Gift of the Magpie deserves a place on the shelves? Then I could just move in and never leave.

Meanwhile, I live in hope that evilAmazon will deliver Rockin' Around the Chickadee in time for Christmas.

Between a Flock and a Hard Place, my current read, features feral turkeys. Real troublemakers, feral turkeys, I think the Bluestocking would be better without them.

Magpiecomplex · 16/11/2024 10:55

@MarieDeGournay @lcakethereforeIam Yes, glad to hear of the deliverance of that poor magpie, and also that the BBC clearly has its reporting priorities straight.

MarieDeGournay · 16/11/2024 11:02

Very funny Deano😂😂😂

And all before 11 a.m., I'm impressed, what did you have for breakfast???😄

DeanElderberry · 16/11/2024 11:07

Breakfast: tea and poached egg and rasher and tomato and mushroom, and tea followed by stewed apple, and tea followed by toast and marmalade.

And tea.

Some time ago, must make myself some cocoa.

They are very funny books and also clever and slightly anarchic.

I had to look these up, to see if you'd invented them! There are even more titles, it seems. We need all of them on the bookshelves.

I found the librarian quokka and (very quietly) ordered the whole set.

AI is having a moment again. Trying to get a colouring book style image of a dragon for junior offspring to try out paint schemes on, and I got this...
