NHS Fife tries to silence nurse

Hoardasurass · 13/10/2024 09:36

So as has been mentioned on threads about the Darlington nurses a nurse is sueing NHS Fife over its trans staff policy.
The poor nurse was forced to get changed infront of a man in the female changing facilities, when she complained about it she was 1st told to change in a cupboard if she didn't like it, then they tried to bully her into swapping shifts so she didn't work with the man in question (she wouldn't), then they wanted her to move hospital (again she refused) so then they suspended her without pay for months until her solicitor got involved and now they are trying to gag her by insisting that the court case (starts in February) must be held in secret (I wonder why) and will be in crt next month asking to restrict reporting on the case.

This case is really important in Scotland because the trans staff policy that's going on trial in this case is the Scottish government's own policy used in all public sector organisations in Scotland and works on self id. So when this case is won it will finally kill the Scottish government's self id policy in all public bodies

SP being tone policed

That's us done for the day.

Back tomorrow at 10am.

"you told the man to get out of the changing room in the wrong way"

I wonder what the women could have done, which might have made the management listen? Sent a deputation of say 50 women to say it was unacceptable? Point out that there was a man's changing room?
All hand in their resignation?

That would be an interesting question to ask, wouldn't it?

If all the nurses said the same, would you keep men out of the women's changing room?

I think that's what's called a heads I win, tails you lose.

paraphrasing: it's what you said, and how you said it

I wonder what exactly Dr Upton imagines might happen to him if he used the male changing room with his doctor & nursing colleagues?

There was 16 (I think) of the Darlington nurses and they still didn't make any progress.

Presumably he's used plenty of male changing rooms in the past so he knows full well that nothing would happen to him.

I feel so sorry for SP that none of her female colleagues have come forward to support her. They agree with her but as we know the process is the punishment.

Well, she was dismissed from her job. Pour encourager les autres. It appears the female staff are already made to feel embarrassed and intimidated at their place of work. By being exposed to male staff in their changing areas, and this is apparently with the full collusion and support of the NHS Fife itself. There may be the possibility of these women also losing their livelihood, and probably tarred and feathered in any reference letter as hateful for not wishing to be embarrassed and intimidated by men.

Madcats · 03/02/2025 16:14

Didn't Wes Streeting say that he was going to sort this out, when he met the Darlington 5 back in October?

3+ months have passed, during which time Fife NHS could have negotiated some compensation and settled out of court.

Wes Streeting is not involved in health in Scotland. It is devolved.

And they had to start their own trade union, as the one to which they had been paying their dues were happy to let these women be trampled upon.

If they suspend everyone who complained then they would be up shit creek staffing wise. I suspect that patient care was something the nurses considered in addition to the punishment they'd get personally for complaining. Dr Upton wouldn't have given a shit, his feelings are more important than anyone else's

TWETMIRF · 03/02/2025 16:26

I nearly wrote Dr U but went with Upton. My brain wants to take away the space and call him Dru but that's Gru's brother

Did anyone catch the Reporting Scotland bit on this?

Is it just my eyesight or was the reporter wearing an interesting coloured scarf?

BananaAppleOrange · 03/02/2025 16:32

In terms of ‘other staff coming forward’ why does it have to be just this Dr in this changing room at this hospital?

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 03/02/2025 16:34

That's definitely pink and blue.

She did avoid calling the Dr 'she' though. Although, almost apologised for using make pronouns for him when quoting.

Madcats · 03/02/2025 16:50

After the last FWS case, didn't the judge opine that a trans person needed a GRC to entitle them to be treated as being of the opposite gender?

It's good to see the case already being reported in some detail in/on the BBC news app.

Hopefully the press are picking it up too.

Two weeks this shite is running for? Two weeks to say that women shouldn't have to undress with men at work?
What a waste of time and money.

Well it's all about trying to prove that unconsenting women can be used by the NHS as resources for any man who fancies crossing women's boundaries and making them uncomfortable or scared. There seem to be some people very invested in this stripping of human rights from women within the NHS and willing to throw a lot of resources at it.

Bannedontherun · 03/02/2025 17:17

Just thinking out loud, my first question for Dr Upton would be why do you use a changing room designated for females?

And if he said because he is a woman …. That my cause him problems as one could press him further on the whole issue of affirmation.

He can hardly reply he would feel unsafe in the male changing room as one would have to believe then that other doctors might beat him up, or be otherwise abusive.

NC is far smarter than me but i have a feeling she will go there.
