NHS Fife tries to silence nurse

Hoardasurass · 13/10/2024 09:36

So as has been mentioned on threads about the Darlington nurses a nurse is sueing NHS Fife over its trans staff policy.
The poor nurse was forced to get changed infront of a man in the female changing facilities, when she complained about it she was 1st told to change in a cupboard if she didn't like it, then they tried to bully her into swapping shifts so she didn't work with the man in question (she wouldn't), then they wanted her to move hospital (again she refused) so then they suspended her without pay for months until her solicitor got involved and now they are trying to gag her by insisting that the court case (starts in February) must be held in secret (I wonder why) and will be in crt next month asking to restrict reporting on the case.

This case is really important in Scotland because the trans staff policy that's going on trial in this case is the Scottish government's own policy used in all public sector organisations in Scotland and works on self id. So when this case is won it will finally kill the Scottish government's self id policy in all public bodies

The Edinburgh ET email worked to get a - very quick - answer on Jan 30/31st. And this time the Tribunal employee didn't have pronouns in their official email details, which makes a nice change [looking at you, London EAT].

If anything changes after the weekend, the email for Dundee is:

[email protected]

Tallisker · 31/01/2025 19:00

Why has it been moved? Does it mean anything sinister?

Nothing seems to have been said about why. It does seem smaller and more out of the way...

Bannedontherun · 31/01/2025 19:40

Possibly it is nearer to where the complainant lives.

Hoardasurass · 31/01/2025 22:39

It's quite a bit trickier to get to Dundee crt from Dunfermline/Kirkcaldy area of fife than it is to Edinburgh. I wonder if it's to reduce the number of in person observers.

She's from Dunfermline

Yes, you do wonder, given the lengths that Fife NHS went to in their attempt to get the whole thing done in secret and without revealing Dr Upton's name, etc.

And given the treatment of the complainant thus far, with the judge allowing her to use male pronouns for, you know, A MALE PERSON, but warning her about using them "gratuitously and offensively on a repeated basis with no good reason to do so" among other things (being told this can't help but hobble her ability to just concentrate on giving her evidence)... well, it doesn't appear that anyone is going out of their way here to make things easier for the poor woman in this instance.

I imagine they want as few observers and as little sunlight as possible.

Yup. The Park 'n' Ride makes it easy to get Edinburgh and the Fife Circle makes it easy to get there by train.

BezMills · 01/02/2025 04:12

Kirkcaldy is about halfway in between, but Dunfermline clearly has better access to Edinburgh than Dundee.

DrBlackbird · 01/02/2025 16:32

PMK hopefully for tribunal updates. Why oh why do employers not just accept they screwed up and promise to do better ie gender neutral change rooms instead of wasting time and money (badly needed by the NHS).

Had a depressing encounter today. Met some people for a coffee. One of the men was talking about same sex orientation. That this was more accepted today, unlike the past. I made a comment about how sex orientation doesn’t make demands on others to deny reality. Unlike the T which was tagged along to it. Also, that women had the disbenefits of it being recognised as a thing. Sports etc. That gay people stayed in their own lane and didn’t trample on others rights.

Well, if another chap didn’t rush in to prevent me talking any further. About how trans people were so discriminated against. That money was being poured in to create hate against them. He literally said men, women, and trans people as if there was another class of people. I said everyone is just a man or a woman. He said there are only a tiny amount of trans people, ignoring any impact on women. I said it was enough to make sure no woman got on the medal podium in the 800m in 2016 Olympics. Mentioned the court case in Scotland that the brave Sandie Peggie is bringing.

He literally rushed in my mid sentence to shut me up talking about how women were trampled on by this junk science belief. That a man whose picture as the big beardy bloke of his graduation is now allowed to insert himself into a women’s changing room. To take his clothes off, and be in the presence of unconsenting women taking their clothes off. How a woman was dismissed for standing up for herself. Of course people can believe what they want. I don’t think flat earthers are less entitled to respect as human beings. I still think they believe in junk science. And air traffic controllers aren’t forced to change their practices to affirm the belief of flat earthers.

I think he could be led to believe anything now. Follow any dogma or ideology. Obviously outside of any that respects women as full humans, with full human rights. I just think he is a misogynist now.

Cailleach1 · 01/02/2025 16:38

I know that those medal winners were not ‘trans’. They were most likely biological males who were not identified as such because the Olympics have decided to not eliminate males in women sports like this. Oddly they still do drug testing, and don’t allow some shoes and blades to be used as may give an unfair advantage. Maybe that is because men would be detrimentally affected.

My point was that it doesn’t take many males to trample on women

ILikeDungs · 01/02/2025 16:45

I agree. I emailed the Dundee ET with the names and date of the trial, but just this morning so may not get a link in time to start Monday at 10.

Very true. For every man who wins, or gets a medal, in a women's competition, every single woman below him is a place lower. And there will be a woman who didn't make the team.

littlbrowndog · 01/02/2025 21:19

There is the ember electric bus that goes to Dundee.

it’s lovely. And if you have bus pass it’s free.

I asked for a log-in link to the tribunal and got an immediate answer saying to apply on 31st January and not before.

Only just caught up with this and realised my days off are Monday and Tuesday.
Will it be too late to apply first thing on Monday?

Myalternate · 02/02/2025 08:36

Does the change of venue mean a change of Judge?

howonearthdidwegethere · 02/02/2025 11:11

Details of the tribunal hearing and how to watch here.

Good for that nurse. I hope she gets compensation. How on earth folk can vote SNP after all they've done beats me.

Or Labour, LibDem or Green. All totally captured. All spouting the TWAW bollocks.

INeedAPensieve · 02/02/2025 11:38

I'm sorry you had that experience @Cailleach1 . A friend no longer then. Just a bog standard misogynist. 💐

The SNP drove the worst of this but labour, lib dems and greens were all the same. Greens are even more demented about it than SNP.

Mmmnotsure · 02/02/2025 18:37

Watch your language, O Nest of Vipers Women.

It's not only Sandie Peggie who is being told to watch her words.

In the preliminary hearings, the counsel for NHS Fife/Dr Upton argued that Tribunal Tweets coverage was picked up by other social media sites such as Mumsnet, where it is repeated and much objectionable and offensive commentary has been added.
