"We, the undersigned, are deeply disturbed that populist messages particularly targeting Muslims have gained traction among significant numbers of social media accounts associated with the gender critical movement."

Statement on the gender critical movement and the far right

Since the horrific murders in Southport on 29 July, the UK has seen an alarming outbreak of far-right violence, with organised gangs targeting mosques and setting fire to asylum hostels. It is clea…

You're asking the wrong question and, I suspect, deliberately skewing the issue.

It's not wrong to want child rapists in jail.

It is wrong to hold up this example and use it to falsely claim that Muslims get superior treatment to Christians in order to generate anti-Muslim sentiment.

Did they get different treatment though? Or did they get the same?

I mean you do seem to be showing lots of evidence of Two Tier policing. How is that 'Evidence of the Influence of the Far Right'? The actual Far Left seem to be creating this Two Tier Situation.

Do you think these tweeters don't have their own eyes in their heads?

What evidence. That a man who sexually abuses a child receives a suspended sentence. Are you suggesting that was because he is Muslim, because I have terrible news for you.

Edit, none of them appear to be Muslim.

Dear god. It's all 'show us the evidence' then when people produce receipts 'why are too you posting that?'

Almost as though people are trying to avoid a discussion about the influence of the far right on some elements of GC.

Well, we are asking why the tweets were selected.

I'd quite like child rapists to be in jail when they rape or sexually molest girls of all religions.

I don't really get what point it is you are making. And you have posted more huge pictures of other tweets of other people? Or the same people?

I wasn't suggesting anything I was trying to ascertain why one of a range of tweets was being used as evidence of 'Far Right Influence'.

Can you just explain your point?

I'm going to stick my oar in again and be a bit more blunt.

Stephen Ireland, founder of Surrey pride. LGBTQ+ allies would have marched with him or behind him, chanting his slogans.

Please can there be a similar letter for allies to distance themselves from persons accused of paedophilia like him?

I'd be happy to sign that. Most on here would be up for it, I imagine.

Or is this request going to get the silent treatment because you don't want to talk about that?

If you think there should be an open letter about this, then do feel free to go ahead and write one.

BackToLurk · 18/08/2024 21:21

AlisonDonut · 18/08/2024 21:09

This isn't my tweet or screenshot. I was asking the person why they picked this one, and they failed to explain their reasoning so I guess I'd deal with that once I found out why this was Influence of the Far Right?

Are you saying that the other man also raped a child and was jailed? Or that his crime was investigated and a court found him guilty? Or is he another of the 'pled guilty to shorten the sentence' fast tracked 'sending a message' people that we know have been assumed to be guilty and jailed with zero actual due process? Unlike the guy found guilty of sexual assault on an 11 year old? Who was released. How is it Far Right to want a man who did that to a Muslim girl punished?

I'm saying that the man jailed wasn't jailed for 'criticising allah'. He was jailed for violent disorder. He pleaded guilty. I'm asking you why you think someone would lie in this way. Essentially saying 'if you're white they throw you in jail just for criticising allah, but if you're a Muslim you can sexually abuse girls with impunity.' But apparently we're all supposed to pretend we can't see what is being done here.

No Alison, these are headlines demonstrating that lots of men are given suspended sentences, or 'spared jail' when they sexually abuse & rape children. This isn't peculiar to Muslim men, I can't imagine why Hazel used a Muslim man as the example.

timenowplease · 18/08/2024 21:23

The not getting thrown in jail for criticising Allah is not really a gotcha.

Charlie Hebdo, Salman Rushdie anyone?

Imnobody4 · 18/08/2024 21:25

MontagueMoo · 18/08/2024 21:02

If you don't think those posts are anti-Muslim then there's nothing more I can say. I'm not sure what the relevance of KJK is, but I have more screenshots if you really want.

Why did you choose the shot with Yasmin Mohammed? Don't you know who she is? Don't you allow Muslim women a voice now?

And that has what to do with supposed two-tier policing, or Muslim men being 'spared jail', or are you just deliberately muddying the water?

StainlessSteelMouse · 18/08/2024 21:26

The constant use of "populist" as a swear word is quite telling, isn't it?

They really don't like unauthorised people having opinions.

You do know that the school teacher from Batley is still in hiding after threats from Islamists. He has committed no crime and the men responsible have not been prosecuted.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 18/08/2024 21:28

Just on the legal system, no-one is assumed guilty unless they plead guilty. Sometimes people do pleas guilty rather than risk a trial if the charged offence carries a potential custodial sentence as a sentence will be reduced for an early guilty plea.

Whatever you think of this, it's not a new phenomena, it's been part of our judicial system for a very long time.

Yes, I know the CPS have been tweeting some twaddle about criminals. They're idiots.

I have no idea what it has to do with two tier policing. I'm just saying that in the context of the last few comments regarding the issue of whether or not you can get thrown in jail for criticizing Allah which apparently you don't it's kind of a moot point. Innit.

I don't agree that the co-existence in a given individual of both avowedly gc views and 'far right' views is evidence of a far right movement influencing 'the' gc movement. Movements can influence each other, modifying their philosophies and objectives. But I don't see any evidence of exposure to Tommy Robinson changing any of the basic tenets of GC feminism. (Because they're pretty simple.)

PatatiPatatras · 18/08/2024 21:32

So no letter then?

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 18/08/2024 21:33

It's certainly influencing the context coming from some GC accounts.

Not really. If someone wants to tweet about Charlie Hebdo, tweet about that Don't make stuff up just to 'demonstrate' that white men and Muslims are treated differently by the courts. Or do, but then don't be surprised if other people think you're being deliberately inflammatory

Seriously, if you think there needs to be a letter about this, go for it. Don't sit around expectibg other women to keep doing the heavy lifting while you sit on the sidelines sniping.

The 1000 people that they are boasting about putting in jail with no trials this week might think it isn't 'twaddle'.

They just had to let what was it, 75,000 people off of their criminal records for transport fines due to the process being unlawful. I can see this going the same way once some actual human rights lawyers get on the case.

Don't be twisting my words now. I'm no JCJ. That post was very short and to the point and easy to understand.

I also didn't make anything up. Unless your some kind of tin foil hat wearing leftie who thinks the Charlie Hebdo slaughter didn't happen?

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 18/08/2024 21:38

Isn't it this? Calling the innocent until proven guilty, "criminals"?

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 18/08/2024 21:44

Sorry, it was the Home Office who tweeted that, not the CPS.

It's not true. That isn't how the legal system works. This was an outrageous thing to tweet, but it won't influence what happens in court.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 18/08/2024 21:47

I think the transport fines were to do with the single justice procedure, which is inherently flawed and the focus of much criticism

Charges offences like inciting racial hatred, attempted murder or assault won't proceed through the SJP

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 18/08/2024 21:49

I'm not sure you can handwave away a tweet like that from a part of the state. But let's see what happens.
