Which supermarkets can GC women shop in? Not Tesco it seems.

I try my best to boycott/avoid the worst offenders eg M&S, Costa.

I think I have been deluding myself that Tesco has not gone down the self-id path or only in a limited virtue signally manner. Very little 'rainbow' visibility locally or on the main or local websites. Now I discover that their official policy is that their staff and customer toilets are unisex. Everyone can choose whatever toilet they want. But, in my store on a recent visit, this isn't made obvious, eg signage, and they certainly haven't redesigned the toilets to allow proper privacy, eg fully enclosed cubicles with integral wash basins.

Here are the details - see Victoria Smith @glosswitch on X

All the major supermarkets are represented in my general area, albeit at a distance. Sadly Tesco is the nearest. Can anyone recommend the best one to support in terms of legal compliance with the Equalities legislation and some semblance of concern for women and children's safety and privacy?

There was a thread recently discussing who we are boycotting generally but I can't find it. If anyone has a link that would be helpful.

I can't easily find how to email the CEO of Tesco, the head office, or my local store. So I think I will have to work up to visiting locally and try to speak to the local manager.

Disabled loos are also fully self contained and single occupancy. Try again, @StormingNorman.

I’m just not that bothered about it to be honest. You know disabled loos aren’t segregated?

Oh my.

Who knew?

Are you also going to tell me that my bathroom at home isn't segregated?

And that male cleaners clean women's toilets?

Go on, for a hat trick.

Seems that Tesco got a nice pat on the back at the alphabet soup awards (same ones where David Tennant wished Kemi Badenoch would cease to exist). The whole thing makes me 🤮
Does anyone know about Morrisons? I live in the sticks and they’re my only other option for food delivery.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 11/07/2024 12:40

Tesco’s is rubbish anyone - horsegate anyone?

invisibleoldwoman · 11/07/2024 16:37

@LassoOfTruth I did bit of research and so far Morrisons comes out best in terms of current policies. No idea what the toilets are like. Haven’t visited yet. Iceland is good, especially for deliveries. Might be worth investigating.

morrisons

I didn’t know about the link with the David Tennant awards thing. Seems like Tesco has drunk the Kool Aid just as everyone else is quietly exiting stage left.

@invisibleoldwoman thanks! I’ll try to get the scoop on Morrisons.
Mr Menno’s (💕) latest YouTube video was partially about Tennant and it draws attention to the Tesco virtue-signalling and their staff bathroom policy.

Our tesco has a male, a female and a disabled one.

I do frequent some places that are unisex where its just individual cubicles for whomever to use.

That's no different to the toilet on a train surely

And I haven't heard women having a problem with those

Most of the women I know only use them if they are absolutely desperate. Because they so often have piss on the seats/floor.

I think it's more to do with the law...unisex toilets are for anyone but it ensures full privacy ie floor to ceiling walls and door. Those are the toilets you get on trains..

While single sex spaces is the classic cubicles in a row that is open at the base and top. Where you can pass someone looroll under the stalls or if you stand on top of the toilet you could look in on the next toilet.

duc748 · 13/07/2024 00:03

Toilets on trains can be grim, but they are what have to be, and everyone accepts that. That is not the case in pubs and other public places.

TrainedByCats · 14/07/2024 09:48

Tesco was always my preference for the big stock up but switched that to Asda when they used Jane Fae. I use Lidl and Aldi a lot more. Unfortunately my closest supermarket by far is Waitrose so I do still use it but a lot less than I used to.

It’s not the answer for everyone but I try and use specialist online suppliers as much as possible for things like meat, fish, pet food and get milk delivered.

Ah yes, the delightful train toilets we all love so much.

Can’t wait for everywhere to have similar 🙄
