"The stage production, which is set to debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, has already caused outrage over a working title which labelled the gender-critical Harry Potter author a c----."

"The production is yet to cast any of the female roles, including that of Rowling herself."

"Actors have been found for male leads, who will portray Harry Potter cast members Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe."

No, never protested any 'gender' thing, not even at the baby elephant shop.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 19/06/2024 17:32

There's a baby elephant shop?

lcakethereforeIam · 19/06/2024 17:33

Me neither, why would I? Never sent so much as a tersely worded email. Not on twiX or reddit. I have signed a few petitions and gardened a bit. Wrote a couple of dirty limericks.

Reading this article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-64610724#:~:text=One%20person%20has%20been%20arrested,%22Leave%20our%20kids%20alone!%22

Where people did protest Aida H Dee's reading at the Tate, one person was "arrested on suspicion of making a racially aggravated comment towards a police officer outside the gallery". It doesn't say from which "side" of the protest they belonged.

From the images in the article, the anti Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) protestors are a diverse bunch of women and men (in terms of age, race and religion), and the most diverse thing about the "Stop Racism Now"/TRA protestors are their hairstyles.

Protest at Tate Britain over drag queen children's story event

The Tate Britain gallery hosts a story-telling event with children's author and drag queen Aida H Dee.

Am I too late to say No?

Alas, the Telegraph article suggests the part has been awarded, and India didn't get it.

Better luck next time, eh?

It's tough, the business we call show.

No. By the way, has there ever been an incident of GC women sabotaging an event we didn’t agree with? We’re not normally the ones physically preventing people from attending film screenings or hurling abuse at conference attendees and trying to drown out the speakers.

Feckedupbundle · 19/06/2024 19:01

No.

Kucinghitam · 19/06/2024 19:02

I guess if “going around not believing in gendered souls” counts as literal violence, then I’ve protested?

When I was a teenager I picketed a circus because they had animals performing.

Possibly baby elephants, I can't actually remember.

"Elaine Miller flashing a merkin ( very dangerous! ) in the pubic gallery of the scottish parliament would count I guess"

Pubic gallery is either an excellent typo, or excellent pun.

Nope

mrshoho · 19/06/2024 19:54

No! I've written a fair few complaint letters and emails to my MP, local authority, BBC but always polite and non threatening!

No to protesting.

Yes to baby elephants. Please.

excited baby animal GIF

My Youtube feed has surprisingly replaced the bees 'n elephants videos with how to reduce an enlarged teeshirt neckline (didn't know I might ever need to do that) and how to 'use only one ingredient to eliminate urine stains forever'. I'm now wondering if that's got anything to do with the baby elephants.

I'm a NO, but only if you don't count historic Reclaim the Night marches and women's peace protests.

It's a pity about IW. We could have set up a crowdfunder for JKR's popcorn as a thank you for everything she's done.

Just like the rest of us :) I'd love to see IW play JRK :)
If that play toured where I lived I would pay to go see it with IW.
By the way are they allowed to eject you from a play for laughing too loudly? Asking for a friend........

A bit of both.
I submit as my corroborating evidence "cockettish" to describe male head tilts on female dating apps.
