"The stage production, which is set to debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, has already caused outrage over a working title which labelled the gender-critical Harry Potter author a c----."

"The production is yet to cast any of the female roles, including that of Rowling herself."

"Actors have been found for male leads, who will portray Harry Potter cast members Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe."

After noticing several new user names making snide comments on FWR threads recently, my vote is on a contingent of Aston PhDs supporting a certain someone have decided to come to play, but not very nicely, in the ‘sandbox’. Turns out the phrase is quite apt for the behaviour now on offer.

Article in today's Telegraph may interest some here. Sorry - no idea how to provide a paywall buster but I hope someone else can.

Silver cervix, I assume.

SPOONS FROM THE LEFT.

Round of applause for 'Silver cervix' Grin

'Terf was passed over by five leading Fringe venues before finding a home at the Ian McKellen Theatre,'

'Because of the backlash the play has received from gender-critical groups who accuse the play of misogyny, particularly, says the play’s producer Barry Church-Woods, on Mumsnet, Kaplan has been forced to adjust the play’s title – it was originally called Terf C* in reference to one of the hashtags that has been levied against Rowling by trans activists.'

Aw, bless, did we force him to drop a misogynist slur? Poor chap.

WitchyWitcherson · 19/06/2024 13:57

Kaplan seems to be very guarded in the article talking about his views, seemingly trying to come across as an innocent, wide-eyed puppy.

Church-Woods is predictably spouting the "why do so many people care about an itsy bitsy 1% of the population?!" rhetoric. Turning that question on its head - why do you care enough about one person out of 8.1 billion enough to make a play about her...?

From the description of some of the scenes, it looks like they're ripping the shit out of Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe too. Hmm, I look forward to hearing more.

'Apparently, all five feared the production would be disrupted by protests from gender-critical groups and worried that they wouldn’t have the security to deal with them.'

Can I suggest if they want security to deal with disruptive Mumsnet protestors they try baby elephants?

AstonUniRank · 19/06/2024 14:05

From that article, it does sound a bit more nuanced than the inflammatory title may have led one to believe. However both Kaplan and the other one are coming at it from a 'trans rights' point of view, and neither seem to have the first clue about women's rights, or why women may be concerned about genderism.

WitchyWitcherson · 19/06/2024 14:13

Haha a small herd of baby elephants would definitely distract me from a protest, so cute!

I love that GC protestors are labelled as scary (for saying "stop brainwashing our kids!" outside a library) when the only protestors I've seen doing actual harm and damage are those like Antifa and "Punch TERFS in the face" TRAs.

Live by the sword, die by the fucking sword.

YouJustDoYou · 19/06/2024 14:17

Isn't it insane that a woman advocating for safe spaces for women is paraded as a villain by a group of brain-washed indoctrinated people?

I just highlighted this on another thread and was countered with a few articles of Far Right groups turning up at Drag Queen Story Hour 🙄🙄 Because that is the same obviously as men turning up to scream and shout down women who want to talk about women stuff.

You really can't argue with stupid. Well you can and I do but I shouldn't.

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 19/06/2024 14:19

Amazing that no women want to act in a play which attacks a prominent feminist, whose name is entirely made up of offensive terms for women or their body parts!

Please don't start with the baby elephants. I've only just got rid of them (months and months worth) from my facebook feed.

I hope he isn't doing puppy impersonations. The Waitrose fiasco earlier in the year increased my education about that sort of thing.

Aren't elephants the mascot of the Republican party 🤠

Perhaps a trestle table covered with free Tunnocks. Although that would serve as a distraction, it might also attract more of us, 🤔

To get rid of an infestation of baby elephants, what you need is a swarm of bees.

Apparently.

https://www.wikihow.com/Protect-Your-Home-and-Garden-from-Elephants

That was interesting. My new thing learnt for today.

However, I am a bit concerned that, having just gone and watched a Youtube film about elephants and bees, my Youtube feed will have invited the elephants to stay. Might make a change from all those films being recommended on my home page about polluted Cornish beaches (was last there over 20 years ago); how to resize a skirt so that you can get into it with a larger waistline (??? haven't worn a skirt for decades and don't own one, I do own a larger waistline though 😀); how to revive miserable orchids (I've never owned one and don't want one, depressed or not); rehoming rescue dogs from shelters (I don't plan to get one, especially not from an American centre since I'm in the UK) and so on.

I've just gone and checked. Two of the first eight icons on my Youtube homepage are now about bees and elephants. It might only get worse.

Can I just do a poll please.
For gender critical people only please. e.g. believe in biological sex.
Have you ever protested in person a primarily gender related event ?
Like the play in question, or a similarly gender/TERF/women's rights related event.

Going to a let women speak event KJK style would not count because that's not a protest at another event. It is it's own event.
Elaine Miller flashing a merkin ( very dangerous! ) in the pubic gallery of the scottish parliament would count I guess, but I can't think of any other examples. Please feel free to remind me of other gender critical protests.

I just don't get why the guy is worried about security based on what I've seen.

Please annwer YES or NO to ever having protested in person an event based on your gender critical views. If yes please also give a number for how many times.

My answer - NO

If you read the original thread about this which has some of the publicity at the time of trying to get in shown "off Broadway" it may well be that they have toned it down.

Whether that is down to FWR or real life confronting his vile misogyny doesn't matter.

I just hope by whatever way it happesn, the play never happens.

The whole concept is gross, and a prime example of how still men think they can say what they want about women. And in this case joining in with all the other male bullies.
