Tommy Robinson and Let Women Speak

I've only read about this on Twitter so there's a chance this is being taken out of context, but it looks like Let Women Speak were part of Tommy Robinson's rally in London this past weekend:

This doesn't sit right with me at all. I've been to LWS events and thought I knew what they were about. I've argued against the guilt-by-association tactics that some activists use against LWS when male intruders have turned up to the events, like the neo-Nazis in Melbourne.

But here we see the opposite, LWS deliberately attending far-right fascist marches. This seems inexcusable to me.

It’s really odd to me how invested people are in hounding down people on the internet they dislike

Not all people think like that

I said earlier I used to follow DJ Lippy on twitter. I'm not in there any more. I know her from then.

I had no clue who Aja was before this. And I only know about this because of the tweets linked upthread.

I hate the far right, I hate the fact they have infiltrated GC feminism as you well know because I've posted about it before. And been told of course GC feminists aren't far right, of course they aren't racists, it's a TRA smear, or me being tribal.

Hmm. Turns out it was gaslighting bollocks from those posters.

And BTW not everything is about fucking KJK. I can think she's unpleasant and also dislike people who go on racist far right rallies.

Pathetic. Of all the people at that rally you just happen to pick on Aja?

SinnerBoy · 05/06/2024 21:40

Hmm. A Black woman is a racist who sides with white racists, who don't like non-whites.

OK. I see.

mrshoho · 05/06/2024 21:54

"Fascist, you're all fascists! So there!"

Oh I know. Poor Aja. Just happened to find herself at a far right fascist rally. Just happened to tweet herself there being positive about "our country" Then just happened her girlfriend was handing out LWS leaflets so it got posted on here. Then just happened her girlfriend has been vocal on twitter in the past and so I knew who she was.

Just think. All this could have been avoided in so many ways Confused.

I guess you also think women can't be misogynists.

That's exactly what I hear!

Seriously, you think Aja's a racist?

EasternStandard · 05/06/2024 22:25

Why target people like that on social media?

There’s plenty out there saying why it’s not a good way to go. Dial it back.

CassieMaddox · 05/06/2024 22:26

Oh look. KJK definitely has no involvement in who hands out her leaflets and wouldn't want to be associated with far right followers of Tommy Robinson at all #sarcasm

well do you or not? instead of hinting, smearing. Do you think Aja is racist?

Datun · 05/06/2024 22:24

I think she went to a far right rally headed by racist thug Tommy Robinson and tweeted about it. Hard for me to fathom why some one not racist would be at a far right rally hosted by a racist.

I can't say more than that now she's taken her twitter down, suffice to say there was plenty on there that was consistent with the behaviour on the marches.

Nope. Lots of people who don't follow Robinson would be there. Journalists for one. Security. So it's not 'hard to fathom'. Are you seriously suggesting though, that in Aja's case, you think it's because she's racist?

NotBadConsidering · 05/06/2024 22:41

Louis Theroux has met with countless far right extremists and has made documentaries about it 😮 #mustbeafascist

LordPercyPercy · 05/06/2024 22:43

I've noticed a real tendency among elements of the left to get particularly offended if people of colour don't behave and hold what are considered the correct views.
It's quite apparent with some senior Tory politicians too.

Answers to the thought experiments:

I think the leaflets would generally have been welcomed at a pro Hamas rally (although there is a mix there with the Queers for Palestine peoplewho'd have been outraged.)
I think there'd be anger if handed out at Pride.
But broad agreement with the leaflet at LBG alliance conference.
I think lesbians holding hands would be largely ignored at a TR rally.
I think overt lesbians would create more issues at a pro hamas rally.

Conclusion: Some opinions intersect with unlikely bedfellows not necessarily along left/ right lines.

Yes, this is interesting.

We know that it's of the rallies or protests related to kid's schools, in the UK and elsewhere, have included a lot of Muslim parents, who have real issues with their kids being taught this stuff.

If there were actual Muslims at the pro-Palestinian rally, they might well find they were receptive. Although some such rallies seem to be mostly white, secular westerners.

Hepwo · 05/06/2024 22:59

Ah lovely to see Rik there. Timeless.

This thread is a theatre of the absurd.

Ensuring children have access to age appropriate material is not 'banning books' (In the same way as restricting the same of alcohol to over 18s is not 'banning alcohol').

Attending a pride rally in fetish gear is not equivalent to simply attending a different flavour of gathering. It's the fetish gear in public that some here take issue with.

More exaggeration / false equivalence.

If these posts were an essay, they'd be 'D - must try harder'.

Some people are D students no matter how hard they try.

Oh come on.

You are clearly trying to imply that because she was at the rally, she is a racist.

Have you even fucking thought about that? You are saying this black woman is a racist and ok with racism. Not even some kind of indirect racism that most people would not even call racism, but standard neo-nazi racism.

Do you expect people to take that seriously?

Do you not even think for a moment, "gee, that seems unlikely, I wonder if there could be a different explanation?"

Why are you making this about Aja?

I know why. Because it suits you to divert from what's actually happened onto an individual.

I don't know her. I have no idea if she's racist. But as I say, it's very hard for me to fathom why anyone not racist would be at a Tommy Robinson rally. I would rather boil my own head than go near anything organised by him.

What explanation do you think there is for someone being at a Tommy Robinson rally and then posting a picture of themselves in the English flag going on about being proud of our country?

If someone goes to far right rallies and then tweets themselves using far right iconography and language, it is a reasonable conclusion that they are far right.
