How very dare she not take his advice?!

Surely MNHQ are twitching about the Scot’s Act since they could also fall foul of it.

If you mean the point about something being read in Scotland, perhaps some/many SM platforms will simply stop servicing Scotland. Same goes for certain news articles just not being available. That sounds mad but look where Scotland is with this law (self-appointed judge and jury of the entire globe).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2024 19:57

"The monitors" refers to a group of TRAs who admitted this in a magazine piece about Mumsnet a few years ago. Which I'm sure many posters are aware of. Some of these monitors were interviewed in their actual names.

The gall of the random man!

I think “deliberately defiant” is the new “yet she persisted”.

GenderlessVoid · 01/04/2024 19:59

How dare she listen to her own solicitors instead of heeding the advice of random men on the internet? Think of all the money she's wasted!

pombear · 01/04/2024 19:59

❤for @Boiledbeetle

pombear · 01/04/2024 20:00

Laughing at the handwaving away of the existence of the misogynistic monitors

MNHQ are mysogynistic monitors now?! (Seeing as that's what other posters are insisting is meant by monitors)
Laughing at the insistence that it's MNHQ monitors then along comes a post like this to show no, actually, some think there's a whole mysterious "they" and "all seeing monitors" rather than just people with a different opinion.
It's sooo weird on here sometimes.

No. The comments about “the monitors” do not refer to mumsnet HQ. They refer to the activists who monitor the discussions on here and then complain to mumsnet about them. Mumsnet used to accept complaints from individuals who are not signed up members of mumsnet. I don’t know if they still accept such complaints, but I assume they do. Those activists were trying to get FWR completely shut down at one point, spent years at it, targeting advertisers, that sort of thing. That’s who “the monitors” refers to.

Edited to add: Erish has already replied.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2024 20:02

I can find the article about "the Monitors" if anyone wants?

LarkLane · 01/04/2024 20:03

There's so many men yelling online from their Ma's basement you'd think we were on nuclear alert.
Pathetically yearning for a wee bit of fame and claiming to be the one who took down JKR.

I would genuinely be interested if you have a link. Google is bringing nothing up for me.

I'm a bit confused as I have been listening to both BBC News and LBC news on a trip down South.
A couple of news reports, which I'm pretty sure were BBC, said that the hate crime law included sex as a category.
But BBC news online reports excludes sex as a category, and other reports explain that that's 'coming soon'.
Anyone got a clip from BBC News which includes 'sex' as a category included in the new Hate Crime Act?

Coming soon 🤦‍♀️

Not read whole thread - But once again I’m bowled over by the amazingness of JKR.

I hope to have just an ounce of her bravery.

The gall of the random man!

Sorry to be a pedant, but hasn’t Random Man misspelled ‘canon’ in that context?

As in, it should be ‘canon’ not cannon.

There are nine protected characteristics, but they've only picked four. And left out any that specifically relate to women only.

Datun · 01/04/2024 20:09

Oh, that probably wasn't what you were asking pombear. I'm sure you're completely au fait with what they're doing !

Oh I dunno. I rather got the sense that she particularly enjoyed Random Man’s posts.

WallaceinAnderland · 01/04/2024 20:10

Police Scotland said it had not received any complaints over the posts.

Give them a chance, they're trying to figure out how to fill in the form

Under Scottish law every time something on the internet is read in Scotland it is published in Scotland, and therefore can fall under the new hate crime thingy!!

Really? That’s … beyond bonkers. So I could report pretty much everything said by Trump and, if it’s reported in Scotland, a local bobby is dispatched to tell him to watch his language??

CocoapuffPuff · 01/04/2024 20:13

I'd like to publicly thank JK Rowling for saying and writing everything I, and many many other Scottish women, cannot say and write.

She's rich enough not to give a fuck and I am LOVING IT.

Goan yersel', hen.
