Yes! Colleague is NOT CIS!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 13/03/2024 22:51

Another female colleague (sgt) asked me what a cis woman is, as she'd been referred to as such. I explained that it's a made up construct etc etc etc

She exclaimed ' But I'm a woman. Not Cis or whatever.'

Getting there slowly but surely.

Did you report her to yourself (or indeed to her own self) for this egregious NCHI? 😉 (Assuming police variety of sergeant, not army…)

Am impressed she’s managed to remain so oblivious/impervious to the GenderWoo until now…

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 14/03/2024 01:13

Past me on here would have said I took offence at being called cis.
If I was asked that now, I'd just say it means being a biological born woman
Trans people exist whether you like it or not

The indoctrination’s working then?

If you‘re in Scotland and you don’t want her to know it’s you reporting her (or you find police stations intimidating) you can head to a variety of third-party locations to report it as a hate crime. (see police Scotland thread if you have no idea what I’m on about!)

But yes a relief to hear OP.

Do you believe people are literally born in the wrong body? Or do you mean something else when you say 'trans people exist'?

Are you aware that not everyone shares your beliefs?

I think it’s considered transphobic to call yourself a “biological born woman”. That’s why ‘cis’ was developed in the first place.

The word woman works just fine without the added bullshit. Everyone knows exactly what the word means and who it actually refers to. Ie not any type of man.

Gowlett · 14/03/2024 01:45

I think a lot of this shite only exists on social media. She / They etc… To everyone on the street I’m just another middle-aged woman.

Correction.

People who claim to be trans exist. Whatever trans means.

FelineGood76 · 14/03/2024 01:58

What other kind of woman exists except for a "biological born woman"?

Well yeah there is that too 😁
I mean, I don't hear this away from here and social media in general.
But.... if you think about it a little deeper .... not everyone is me?;
So stands to reason there's other people out there who are different to me
Outside of my bubble of people I know

Cisgender, like all other gender identities, is something you can opt into as much or as little as you like. You can go on and on about your gender identity or identities or keep it private. Up to you, I am fine with all of that.
What is NOT OK is to assume gender or assign gender to someone.
As I am sure you know, I am just laying it out for less knowledgable lurkers.

Gowlett · 14/03/2024 02:38

GAGEAG, yes totally. By shite I mean generally everything that’s out there online! IRL, work away! Be yourself, of course. If I see a young guy in a dress & lippie, fair play to him (her?).

Absolutely this. We don't need a bloody prefix to show that we're a woman!

Woman will do find for me. No need for add ons at all, I know what I am.

If you feel that you need a way to differentiate, my preferred prefix is 'real' - as I don't believe in gender identity, 'cis' is offensive to me. I certainly do not have a gender identity which aligns with my sex, I find the whole concept regressive, and my personality and interests are broad, certainly not restricted to the 'feminine' box

CoalTit · 14/03/2024 06:23

Yes, they do, just as Catholics and Jains and Zoroastrians and breatharians exist. The trouble with trans is that we non-believers are required to pretend to believe, too, sometimes on pain of getting the sack or even being physically attacked by angry men.

If it only existed on social media, I'd have far less of a problem with it.

Unfortunately it exists in the mainstream media, publishing, NHS, schools, universities, police, armed services, charities, corporations, companies, local government, national government. I've probably missed some, so ubiquitous has it become.

Male women, of course! Like that male mother of four from Spain who is currently complaining that some of the other Spanish male women are only pretending to be women.

I think you’ll find that everyone out there in society accepts that the default meaning of “woman” is male, it’s only about five or six people on here who have a problem with this. And of course that means you need to explain that the boring old kind of female women are now “cis women” so that people don’t get them mixed up with the better* male women.

JustSpeculation · 14/03/2024 07:55

I've always looked on the term "cis" as being the current put-down term for people who are seen as conventional. It's taken on that job from words like "square" and "straight". It connotes a lack of imagination, a rule bound orthodoxy and being really uncool and not edgy. TRAs may claim that it's "just" a descriptive term, yet it so often seems to be said with a sneer.

The argument against it is that the "cis/trans" distinction is one that does not need to be made. There are women and transwomen, men and transmen. That adequately describes the distinction.

BezMills · 14/03/2024 08:03

If you don't know the gender of the person you're calling cis, it is NOT OK to call them cis.
I'd estimate about 99% of times cis woman or cis man is used, it's a clear case of mis-gendering due to assuming the gender. While mis-gendering is not a crime, nor should it be, it's probably rude and you shouldn't do it.
As for people telling me about their gender identity or gender identities or lack of gender identity, I have roughly the same level of interest in that, as I do in hearing about their dreams. But I will try and remember it, just like if someone is into the Warhammers or Football or anything else. It's all part of me masking so that I can cope with normal social interactions.

you forgot non-binary people, people who call themselves agender or non-gender (apparently slightly different idk) or those who completely reject gender as a bag of dicks

Peskysquirrel · 14/03/2024 08:20

Lots of people exist who are different from me in some way. But I don't feel the need to use any labels to define myself as "not them". I'd be here all day if I did that.
