Employers seem to be slow learners when it comes to women's rights! There’s another employment tribunal case being brought by a woman who attended and took the microphone at a Let Women Speak event in Belfast last year and has been treated very badly by her employer Belfast Film Festival as a result.

Looks like we’re going to have to keep gardening until they get the message.

disclaimer. I don’t know Sara and have no connection to BFF I’m just a woman who likes donating to causes that make a difference

A small carrot has been planted.

Small carrots become big carrots and then become a bushel, a ton, a lorry load, and then a tsunami. To knock this house of cards down. But it can only be done by every single carrot. By every deed, by every word, by every discussion, by every support. By Sara taking this extraordinarily brave stand. Especially as she's so dependent on a small place for her line of work.

Thanks for the reminder, I will do some gardening later for this. Also a reminder that Pilgrim Tuckers case against the Open University still needs to sprinkling.

And sneakily Crowdjustice have set their added 'tip' thing to 20% of your donation now, it used to be 10%, I usually give zero to them. You have to scroll down and undo it unless you want to be hit with that. They already get a percentage of whatever is raised.

Thank you the reminder about Pilgrim Tucker. I have thrown a few seeds her way too.

First time of posting. Thanks for the info about the cases. Planted carrots for Sara and Pilgrim.

haha where does the gardening metaphor come from? it's brilliant!

BingBongSong · 25/01/2024 17:22

Thank you for the thread. I've donated to both Sara and Pilgrim on the back of reading it.

I haven't been as glued to a thread (just spent three days reading about Roz vs ERCC) since reading the updates about Allison Bailey's tribunal.

Boiledbeetle · 25/01/2024 17:31

Another £999 since my last screen shot!

Well the deadline is some weeks away. And some paydays!!!

MoltenLasagne · 17/02/2024 13:47

There's 4 days left on the gardening front and Sara is just past 15,000 carrots 🥕

StephanieSuperpowers · 17/02/2024 13:59

Right so one last push.

Right so one last push.

Just given it a wee push. The north of Ireland seems to be particularly vulnerable to mindless identity politics and badly needs a wake-up call. 4 days and just under £5k to go - maybe we can push this out to all ReSister etc groups if we haven't already?

Dineasair · 28/04/2024 23:57

Just did a bit of gardening, didn’t check the dates on this thread, but it’s still open anyway.

Update from Sara on Discrimination case against Belfast Film Festival

Latest on the case - Adjournment news
Thank you all so much for your continued support, kindness, and patience throughout this incredibly challenging time. It means more to me than I can fully express.
I wanted to update you on my situation. I have now officially resigned from Belfast Film Festival following the rejection of my grievance and subsequent grievance appeal by an external HR company, Think People. These outcomes were, unfortunately, as I anticipated, given that Think People were employed by Belfast Film Festival itself. My trust in the process was further eroded upon reading the shocking contents of the Discovery material, which left me deeply shaken. It became clear to me that my trust and confidence in ever returning to my former role had been irreparably damaged.
As a result of my resignation, my legal team and I are now pursuing an additional constructive dismissal claim alongside the existing case. This means that my original hearing date, set for January 13, 2025, will be postponed to a later date. While this delay is frustrating, I am steadfast in my determination to see this through. I believe this case is about much more than just my personal experience—it’s about standing up for free speech, particularly within the Arts and in Northern Ireland.
I am fully confident in my legal team’s expertise and our ability to achieve a just outcome, no matter how long the process takes. This fight is not just for me but for ensuring that others in similar situations can feel empowered to speak out without fear of retaliation or dismissal.
Once again, I am profoundly grateful for the encouragement and support you have shown me. It has been a source of strength during a very difficult period. Thank you for standing with me.

MarieDeGournay · 20/12/2024 15:00

I'm very sorry to hear that you have reason to be even more disillusioned about the BFF, I'm sure you went into the job full of enthusiasm for the festival, and now you have been driven out - that must hurt a lot, Sara.
And this means that you have to wait even longer for your day in court and, hopefully, victory.

The 'carrots' in your corner of the garden will be growing steadily in the meantime, as a concrete* gesture of our support for you.

*I know, I know - concrete carrots?? but you know what I meanSmile

Supporterofwomensrights · 20/12/2024 15:49

Thank you for posting the update. I missed this earlier in the year and have just made a small donation.

If Santy's reindeer don't clear me completely out of carrots over the Christmas, I'll be happy to chuck a few Sara's way. People over here need to start fighting back in the manner of the Terven across the water and I think Sara is pure deadly for sticking up for herself and other women.

I agree - Sara is not only deadly, but wild deadly Grin

I've only just spotted this thread but when I'm more awake and alert I am going to check it out.

I know that organisations use external providers as a means of apparent impartiality, but all I will say is, he who pays the piper carries the tune...

TheseCowsAreSmall · 21/12/2024 07:22

Just to mention, the larder is full of lovely carrots at the moment so no need to plant at this time. Sara is so grateful for everyone's support x
