Young Labour piling on Tonia Antoniazzi on Twitter

Rainbowshit · 31/12/2023 12:06

Just for her tweeting in support of single sex spaces.

twitter.com/toniaantoniazzi/status/1740900475703111707?s=46&t=AjtjSItRj-kgZwRzL-pdyQ

Labour's states policy is to protect single sex spaces. The equality act allows for single sex spaces. Yet they say her tweet is "transphobia"

Thankfully the TERFS are taking no shit from the young bearded misogynists.

I've not seen one justification from TRA for the question - 'why are you campaigning against the single sex exemptions as allowed in the EQA2010?'

Plenty of wails of 'TWAW, you bigot!' but no actual arguments. And it's clearly a co-ordinated campaign against her.

Unfortunately for them, it's cementing a hell of a lot of people's decision not to vote for Labour, if they allow their activists to behave like this.

ResisterRex · 31/12/2023 12:31

I was astounded you find they'd not read her words but instead chose to imagine what she'd said and then respond to that, because it suits the stockpile tweets shouting BIGOT and is far easier than engaging critical analysis or thought.

Good job I was sitting down, I tell you.

Froodwithatowel · 31/12/2023 12:42

I've been asking the question for years: what do you plan to do with all the women who won't have ANY spaces or resources in order for you to give a few men all the choices for their self expression?

Mostly they won't answer you. A few are brave enough to come out with the racism, sexism and revolting prejudice they base all this on.

IcakethereforeIam · 31/12/2023 12:47

If she's on here 👋 Well done you! More people like that in Labour and I might actually vote for them.

duc748 · 31/12/2023 12:52

She is one of only a tiny handful of Labour MPs prepared to speak up on this, isn't she?

Madcats · 31/12/2023 12:58

I don't follow a lot of Labour MPs etc., but have the press office gone away to their second homes with iffy phone coverage or something? Are there any comments from the Front Bench?

For reasons I can't fathom they seem to be trying very hard to be unelectable.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 31/12/2023 13:17

#LabourLosingWomen was trending last night.
Still - it showcases all the dodgy young men in labour insistent on their right to undress alongside unconsenting girls and women. A red flag indicator if you like.

When they come out with shit like this it's a mystery to me why we're to expect a landslide Labour victory. Do people truly not see who they've become?

MargotBamborough · 31/12/2023 13:21

A lot of people are trying very hard not to see it.

Brewdug · 31/12/2023 13:29

Was just looking at a Labour councillor on Twitter frothing at the mouth about this, and self-righteously proclaiming they'd "obviously instantly unfollowed" any other councillors and party members who liked the Tweet.

Any politician too stupid to see the bigger picture here and happy to play such silly games as policing social media likes, immediately cutting out anyone in the same party who disagrees with them, and accusing Tonia Antoniazzi of a) not representing all her constituents, despite nothing of the sort being perceptible from that one Tweet and b) actually, actively doing that themselves just shows how utterly dim these people are. They are the ones damaging Labour.

Floisme · 31/12/2023 13:35

To be fair, there's nothing new about a party with an out-of-control youth wing, as anyone who remembers the Young Conservatives of the 80s can attest. But when left unchecked this behaviour, when viewed alongside the antics of some grown up Labour backbenchers and councillors, builds up an an image of a leadership that doesn't have a grip on their party.

If Starmer wants me to believe that Labour mean a word they say about protecting single sex spaces then he needs to sort it out.

OoohLaLaLa · 31/12/2023 13:38

Tonia is my MP and has been hands on proactively stepping up for her constituents since her election.
I think she’s wonderful. Off to Twitter I go…

fromorbit · 31/12/2023 13:39

It started off when Tonia commentated her support on Twitter for that new report on women's sport, which is saying things which she has been supporting for years. As a former Welsh cap in Rugby she takes women's sports seriously. There is nothing new in her position the TRAs are so daft they are acting like this is a new thing:

https://policyexchange.org.uk/publication/levelling-the-playing-field/

There is also the important row over the serious sexual harassment in the Welsh Rugby Union which Tonia has been fighting against. It is very serious the Welsh minister for sport has been accused over covering stuff up. Possibly the TRA faction in Welsh Labour are attacking Tonia because she is embarrassing the Welsh government. Details here:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-67680854

Tonia and Rosie have been saying the same things for about 4 years now as the most prominent supporters of Labour Women's Declaration. Interestingly it is one of the few times there has been a pile on Tonia, whereas Rosie gets attacked all the time. My suspicion is that Tonia, a former rugby prop, looks tougher, so on some level they are scared of her whereas the TRAs have been infuriated by Rosie because she is as hard as nails, but looks like she might be more easily intimidated. Just more of the massive sexism going on.

There are a bunch of Labour MPs who have openly supported women's rights Diana Johnson is another prominent one, there are a lot more who are covert. Tonia is amongst the most notable in as much Starmer clearly trusts her as she had been a ministerial post till recently and is a whip and has that position for years.

Targeting Tonia is frustrating but actually helps in the long term as the TRAs will alienate the Labour MPs who are trying to stay neutral, but are desperate to win office. For whatever reason Starmer has never been interested in openly supporting Rosie, targeting Tonia is going to backfire, likely to shift the ground in Labour's gender wars in the better direction.

They can't tolerate Young Labour going after a Labour whip for saying things which is Labour policy.

Floisme · 31/12/2023 13:55

I think that's an optimistic reading @fromorbit. The argument that this will shift the party in the long term is all well and good, but I'm looking for reassurance now that Labour is serious about protecting my sex based rights and, unless I get that before the election, I won't be voting for them again.

UtopiaPlanitia · 31/12/2023 13:55

'They can't tolerate Young Labour going after a Labour whip for saying things which is Labour policy.'

I sincerely hope you’re correct but to date Starmer has shown a high tolerance for the bullying of women in his party - GC Labour councillors, Lesbian Labour, and Rosie Duffield get dogs abuse on a regular basis and he has not lifted a finger to help them. I suspect this abuse of Tonia will not provoke a reaction from him either.

HermioneWeasley · 31/12/2023 13:57

Starmer is trying to rebrand Labour but it it infested with misogynists and anti semites and we’ve seen both recently.

no idea who I’m going to vote for next year

This.

He sits by watching it. Which by default is supporting it. In his party.

We've had the edifying sight of a woman being ranted at and bullied in the HoC on camera, by an MP who sat down in her space to do it, and got on with it uninterrupted until finally another man intervened. On camera. There's never been any action taken over this.

Like the edifying sight of lesbian women taking refuge under the protection of extremist Christian men in Australia from the baying mob of progressive men who'd swear they were passionate about LGBT people and were passionate supporters of leftist politics. When not threatening to kill the homosexual ones. And being clear that women who won't abandon their religions, sexualities, own needs, disabilities and traumas in order to service men on demand, are not only welcome in society but are in active danger from them.

This isn't the party of morality and progress and social justice, this IS now the bloody nasty party. What the left once was is now dead.

Waitwhat23 · 31/12/2023 14:48

For anyone who has not heard about it before, here is the nasty wee misogynist Lloyd Russell- Moyle trying his very best to intimidate fellow (female, unsurprisingly) MP's, in the debating chamber -

(As an aside, one of his advisors is the one who shouted fascist at a baby - metro.co.uk/video/moment-labour-mps-aide-screams-fascist-man-holding-baby-2778493/)

I really wish I could have seen his face when the section 35 decision was announced.

Froodwithatowel · 31/12/2023 14:51

The woman's crime in the eyes of that man justifying his behaviour was the same as the crime that draws the death threats and screams and kettling and smoke bombs.

Wishing to discuss the interests of women being treated equally to the interests of men with exciting gender identities. Equally.

DissidentDaughter · 31/12/2023 16:22

Starmer needs to have a word with the hostile young men in his party. A manifesto championing the demolition of women’s boundaries won’t be a great vote winner. It’s just rapey.

Childrenofthestones · 31/12/2023 16:33

Apparently im a transphobe because when asked said I would never have sex with a transwoman. I have a rule of only one cock in my bed at a time. When the bar for transphobia is set so low I'm more than happy to be one 😊👍

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 31/12/2023 16:48

Anything that mentions sex is catnip to these activists.

Its madness that party leaders dont just clearly state the intent of the EqA. Either single sex means sex or gender identity. But they seem to think the best course of action is to let everyone believe what they think it true. Do they think everyone is going to get bored and move on to something else?

Talkinpeace · 31/12/2023 17:06

Years ago there was a group called the "Young Tories"
they had to be officially disbanded and spread to the four winds because they became toxic to the party in the run up to an election.

It will be interesting to see what Starmer does about "Young Labour" in the spring

Waitwhat23 · 31/12/2023 17:10

Excellently described post on Twitter by Dennis Noel Kavanagh -

'Young Labour is basically all the ghastly children from Charlie and Chocolate Factory but they’ve got smartphones, pronouns and low level political ambitions.'
