Young Labour piling on Tonia Antoniazzi on Twitter

Rainbowshit · 31/12/2023 12:06

Just for her tweeting in support of single sex spaces.

twitter.com/toniaantoniazzi/status/1740900475703111707?s=46&t=AjtjSItRj-kgZwRzL-pdyQ

Labour's states policy is to protect single sex spaces. The equality act allows for single sex spaces. Yet they say her tweet is "transphobia"

Rainbowshit · 01/01/2024 02:23

I see now they have pivoted to how unacceptable it is that all these young folk are being ABUSED just for standing up for trans rights. Completely glossing over the fact that THEY were the ones abusing a female MP in the first place.

Which particular trans rights do they think they are standing up for?

No Way Eyeroll GIF by Line of Duty

..... which in this context would have to mean that bullying and abusing women IS 'standing up for trans rights'.

Which would mean that women wanting rights and equality is incompatible with 'trans rights'.

The 'right' being sought therefore is to oppress women and deprive them of equality and 'rights' of their own, without resistance.

Well it's not like we didn't all know, but nice to get that one cleared up.

To be fair, there's nothing new about a party with an out-of-control youth wing, as anyone who remembers the Young Conservatives of the 80s can attest. But when left unchecked this behaviour, when viewed alongside the antics of some grown up Labour backbenchers and councillors, builds up an an image of a leadership that doesn't have a grip on their party.

If Starmer wants me to believe that Labour mean a word they say about protecting single sex spaces then he needs to sort it out.

I remember the Federation of Conservative Students loonies. They wanted to legalise prostitution and heroin. Bring back hanging and abolish trade unions. Tebbit closed them down. And he probably agreed with most of it !

But the Tories like getting elected....unlike a certain party.

HPFA · 01/01/2024 14:18

One of the Student union Labour Clubs said that not all their members were actually Labour Party members.

So not sure how much control the actual LP will have over them anyway.

Floisme · 01/01/2024 14:32

If that's the case then maybe the Labour Party would like to issue a statement clarifying that these young people are not part of an official LP group?

Waitwhat23 · 31/12/2023 19:23

I've also seen another tweet where someone says that, in their 15 year old's friendship group, they use 'don't be such a they/them' if someone is being an arse which made me laugh.

There's some hope yet.

This is the sort of thing that gives me hope more than anything else!

Agree, love that @Waitwhat23

I'm encouraged by the fact that, even on X (Twitter), which is hardly representative of the general population, the vast majority of the comments are supportive.

I'm disheartened that, yet again, Keir stays silent while Labour women get bullied.

It reassures me that I'm not being stupid by refusing to vote Labour.

Every time some "progressive" type tries to gaslight me into thinking I'd better vote Labour because it's essential to get the Tories out, and that Labour don't really hate women, I've just been taken in by right wing propaganda, Labour open their mouths again.

FigRollsAlly · 01/01/2024 18:35

Starmer’s silence on this, and on Kate Osborne’s antics, shows that he hasn’t really tamed the Corbynite wing of his party as much as he’d like the electorate to believe. I saw him described as “ruthless” somewhere but “devoid of principles” is nearer the mark.

Talkinpeace · 01/01/2024 18:40

TBH I support Starmer in staying silent until after 9am tomorrow.

Reacting to the idiotic tweets of drunk MPs will not make anything better.

Do you think he will react tomorrow?

Talkinpeace · 01/01/2024 18:55

From tomorrow all parties are on an election footing.

Elections are won by taking the middle and moderate ground.

The dodgy gender passport story was in two papers today. It will be more.

Young Labour need to go the way of the Young Tories.

OldCrone · 01/01/2024 19:04

Some Labour MPs don't seem to think Starmer is PM material.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/dec/30/keir-starmer-detached-labour-party-jon-cruddas

"Despite a successful career as a human rights lawyer, as Labour leader Starmer appears disinterested [sic] in questions of liberty and freedom.”

“In his immediate circles, he appears to value the familiar and unchallenging. It is difficult to identify the purpose of a future Starmer government – what he seeks to accomplish beyond achieving office. Labour appears to be content for the coming election to amount to a referendum on the performance of the governing Conservatives rather than a choice between competing visions of politics and justice.”

That's acute. At the moment the only policies I'm really aware of that they stand for as a reason to vote is 'we're not the Conservatives' with a side order of 'and we'll destroy women's rights and safeguarding'.

Oh for a new actual left party.

Motorina · 01/01/2024 21:52

Agreed. I first noticed this during covid, when it was very clear that Labour fundamentally disagreed with whatever the Tories were proposing, but I had precisely zero clue what they thought should be done instead. I still have no idea what they stand for beyond not being conservative.

At the next election I mostly want to vote 'a pox on all of them', but that's not an option, unfortunately.

Floisme · 01/01/2024 22:26

To be fair they probably don't need to do or say very much other than 'We're not the Conservatives', and oh man, don't they know it.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 02/01/2024 01:04

When I was a student the young Labour and SWP kiddos were insufferable pains in the backside.

Generally they were young adults from fairly privileged backgrounds (remember back in the day it was about 20% kids went on to study degrees so it was a privilege), who tended to be loud and very full of their own self importance. Also had great difficulty in listening to other people and thought that they knew everything.

oh how times have changed, not.

SinnerBoy · 02/01/2024 07:51

Well, I must say that I'm really surprised to see Starmer cowering in the bottom of a ditch.

Again.

I wonder (hope?) if Starmer is waiting until he has his landslide and can then afford to kick out the worst offenders.

Maybe he is. Can we take that chance?

If hes supposed to run a country, isn't he meant to be braver? Do we want such a craven coward that he is incapable of speaking up when women like tonia and rosie are piled on, get death threats, rape threats etc in charge of running our country?

I dont.

I dont.

He is utterly craven

This won’t happen. All he wants is for women not to talk about this issue no matter what his MPs do

Wind the clock on and they're in the House of Lords. But they are still shouty and , of course , right about everything. Like Claire Fox. Or advising Johnson. Or just being Peter Hitchens.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 02/01/2024 10:13

Some of them I guess. Some of my classmates went in to - join the family law firm, work for large ad agency, become a consultant for oil company, become a right-on community worker with lots of opinions, and no common sense(dodged the bullet with that one).

SunnieShine · 02/01/2024 10:25

Not this bollocks again! Don't they realise 90% of the population are totally over this nonsense and they are making themselves look stupid?
