Assuming we're all taking our air fryers inside, yeah? That gruel's going to need a crispy top to give it a bit of bite

RumNotRun · 24/12/2023 12:56

I had a Polish take on a Hawaiian pizza in Krakow once. It had kiwi on it instead of pineapple - it was surprisingly tasty.

Tallisker · 24/12/2023 12:58

Haggis is good on pizza. Haggis, mushrooms and blue cheese. Cor ☺️

NewtonPulsifer · 24/12/2023 13:05

Are we all still accounted for? No one arrested yet for thinking the wrong thoughts or having a differing opinion to a Very Important M P? Nope? Quelle surprise!

Waitwhat23 · 24/12/2023 11:42

I'm still waiting for the knock at the door, but not a police officer to be seen!

I've been thinking (very dangerous, I know), a good barrister should be able to get the lot of you off on the grounds of mental instability seeing as you're all probably at least one of the following:

Pregnant, trying to get pregnant, IVFing, sleep deprived with a new baby, sleep deprived with poorly children, sleep deprived with poorly elder parents, sleep deprived from seasonal flu/covid, on your period, ovulating, peri menopausal, menopausal, in the zero-fucks stage of recently post-menopausal AND trying to make Christmas happen without throttling your immediate family or in-laws.

Ooh good thinking! I reckon I could pull off politics / political excitement and time of life / imaginary female trouble

I'm going for seduction and disappointment - the story of most of my exes.

dapsnotplimsolls · 24/12/2023 13:50

All the references to masturbation - very fitting for this thread!

'Marriage of son' 😂

stealtheatingtunnocks · 24/12/2023 13:50

I’ve still got two bathrooms to clean, decorations to sort, presents to wrap, to get out my jammies and sort Christmas Eve dinner.

rozzers welcome. A wee break in a cell would be nice.

I’ve got a bag packed by the door like I did when waiting for labour to start. Earplugs, pashmina, packet of tunnocks, that gloopy stuff you put on your feet to peel them (I’ve been trying to do it all year) and my really good book I want peace to read.

That is the weirdest Christmas dinner option I think I've ever seen! It must smell appalling. I'd never be brave enough to discover how it tasted mind!

I've heard that Carp is the Crimbo dinner of choice in Eastern Europe.

LarkLane · 24/12/2023 13:59

Just having a sit down before the guests arrive. Out of the corner of my eye, on the telly, I spot a ticker tape news update.

The Metropolitan Police have arrrested...
ooer they're off I think🙁

Another false alarm - it's the Banksy sign nickers!
Ah well, time to crack open The Drink.

jaysus.......that puts feminism in perspective.

@TheMarzipanDildoWithTinselDisguise

Are you disguised with tinsel because you've run out of marzipan?

The area I am in is in the middle of a Great Marzipan Shortage.

I've still got The Ink Black Heart and The Running Grave to read, I might need a long sentence

I've heard that Carp is the Crimbo dinner of choice in Eastern Europe.

A Polish chum does this on Christmas Eve along with several varieties of sauerkraut. The carp (and some other fish) are in aspic.

The range of traditions (and actual dates of the Big Celebration) are fascinating. I always bake Galette des Roi for one of my sisters (French ILs) and Roscón de Reyes for family with Spanish connections. One year I got to do Kransekake and saffron buns for someone but that relationship didn't last (I don't think it was down to the buns).

NDNs are Lithuanian so we've had poppyseed milk from them before now.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/12/2023 14:33

I read that it used to be a tradition in the Czech Republic (maybe still is) that carp were caught in lakes and brought alive in big tubs of water to the towns and cities where they were sold in the run up to Christmas. The customers must have taken them home in a giant version of a goldfish in a bag from a fair. They then put them in the bath until Christmas Eve, when the unfortunate creature would be despatched by a family member and cooked as a centre piece of the evening meal, which is their big celebration. Puts sprouts into perspective!

quantumbutterfly · 24/12/2023 14:40

My understanding is that you have to 'purge' freshwater critters in clean water to get rid of the 'muddy' taste.
Gonna have a bit of a google fest of your regional recipes now, live and learn.
Happy Christmas.

quantumbutterfly · 24/12/2023 15:02

I think that traditionally the brits had goose for crimbo but turkey was an american import. The royals probably had swan.🙂

It's all good, I don't speak Polish so I just smile and nod. Is that bad?

Not having a orange creme is surely a prize in itself, no?
