My mind is working overtime - perhaps we could use 'Asda van pulled up next door' as a euphemism to mean 'the cops are outside'?

'a net of nuts' delivered = euphemism for the cops AND Dawn are knocking on the door

'a few sprouts' = this is more problematic, but could mean the cops AND Dawn have 'got wind' of where a Mumsnetter lives...

@EightMonthsScared So far they're over 24 hours late, and they haven't phoned ahead. Very rude. Height of CF behaviour to invite themselves to someone's house for a certain date/time and not even turn up.

ETA Actually the CF is Dawn inviting the Met to other people's houses.
