Insert ‘oh my Christ Dawn’ meme here

SnowRoomAtTheInn · 21/12/2023 19:45

I used to have a lot of respect for Dawn, but she lost the plot over this issue a long time ago.

Imagine wasting police time with this shite? Brent needs better representation than this.

RebelliousCow · 21/12/2023 19:47

Is there a specific conversation she is referring to?

ElevenSeven · 21/12/2023 19:48

Hahahahahaha.

This is Labour, though. This is what is coming.

Terrifying.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 21/12/2023 19:49

Who?

IwantToRetire · 21/12/2023 19:49

You mean she is trying to stop people pointing out she has misrepresented the findings of a murder trial to make some cheap jibe at the Tories.

Just how irresponsible is that.

https://twitter.com/DawnButlerBrent/status/1737551048481386936

The courts and the parents, and in fact MSM have gone to great lenghts to say the murder was not related to trans identity.

How could she be so crass.

teawamutu · 21/12/2023 19:50

I've searched her name on the Ghey verdict thread and it was mostly just people quoting her and saying she's wrong.

Unless I missed something heinous or it was deleted, she wasn't even called an idiot until she'd spouted that guff about the police.

And truth is an absolute defence in libel cases.

RoyalCorgi · 21/12/2023 19:50

So, someone tweeted at her:

"FYI you've been mentioned on transphobic forum mumsnet, that's where the pile-on is coming from"

She responded:

"Oh I wondered where these nasty vicious inhumane people were coming from.

Time for me to unfollow and report Mumsnet to @metpoliceuk

Thanks for the info Tom"

So:

  1. She hasn't read the thread in question, simply relied on a claim by someone on Twitter.
  2. She claims she will report Mumsnet (not just the thread, but the site) to the Metropolitan Police, and even tags them in, because obviously the Met don't have more important things to deal with than reading an internet forum.
  3. She is reporting Mumsnet, not because of anything that has been said on Mumsnet (she hasn't read the thread, remember) but because some people on Twitter have been rude to her, and she thinks they are people who have come from Mumsnet, even though she has absolutely no evidence that this is the case.
  4. Having decided to report a popular internet forum to the police on the basis of not a single shred of evidence, she has decided to announce this decision to the whole of Twitter, with no apparent consideration for how ridiculous it makes her - and by extension her political party - appear.

I ask this question in all honesty: how is it possible for someone so lacking in basic thinking skills to be an elected representative?

IncompleteSenten · 21/12/2023 19:51

Bloody ridiculous.

I think anyone who wants to make a complaint about what women on Mumsnet are saying should be required to spend a week actually reading threads first.

So sick of the childishness that is getting outraged via a game of broken telephone.

Oooh Mumsnet is awful! Dreadful! Horrible! I read on twitter that someone said that they'd heard that someone told their neighbour's dog walkers aunt that someone on Mumsnet said...

No different to the JK Rowling thing. People who've not read what she actually said getting outraged and making threats after deciding what she said based on someone's interpretation of someone else's interpretation of someone else's interpretation of what she said.

It's ridiculous.

Read and quote the primary source - in context - or stfu.

Quite. If she's the best of what was on offer then the country's truly fucked.

Merrymouse · 21/12/2023 19:59

Just theorising here, but could it be that people are responding to a post on Twitter because they saw it on Twitter?

I don’t know, but suspect there are more users of Twitter than MN….

WickedSerious · 21/12/2023 20:02

They'll never take me alive.

WhineyVaginey · 21/12/2023 20:15

Lol - beyond parody.

She lost me when she said a few years ago now that children are born without a sex.

Toseland · 21/12/2023 20:18

This is how I imagine life under a Labour government will be. It's quite frightening.

AlisonDonut · 21/12/2023 20:30

Doesn't she get paid to come out with this shit?

By Anthony Watson of GLADD.

IwantToRetire · 21/12/2023 20:30

The helpful twitter person who alerted DB gave the link to the page on the thread where DB's tweet re Tory hate campaign somehow being the reason for the totally horrific murder - where of course a few FWRers made some not totally complimentary comments about DB.

But maybe the mere fact that women talking to each other is the problem and needs to be reported to the police, rather than women stating the facts rather than following her lead of wild allegations

“AIBU: I have reported Mumsnet to the police” 😂

Gosh, just looked that up. Clicked into a ‘gendercriticalwoman.blog’ . I’m aghast. Also aghast that anyone would really say that babies are born without a sex.

Not quite your suggestion but this has been posted. 😂

Karensalright · 21/12/2023 20:42

Just read the whole lot and the “heinous” thread where Butler is mentioned. I think it quite correct to call her out for using this crime as a political football it is in such bad taste.

I cannot know if certain services were better funded then this would never have happened, nor can she.

The tweet is hilarious. Tom even gave her the link that she clearly didn’t look at, which is going to make her look super silly to the Met.

I think that the school guidance document is one of the moments in time where bits of this “ball of tangled string” is unravelling.

I had up until a few months ago been completely oblivious to the extent of what’s been going on regarding TRAs apart from the odd huh? When stuff cropped up in my mother’s fave paper.

So i raise a glass to you all on this board who have stuck at it for so long. Sit back and enjoy, your time is coming i do believe.

RethinkingLife · 21/12/2023 21:05

Is anyone thinking that this is the time for Met Police to step up and charge people for wasting their time with frivolous complaints?

Mind, it's probably easier for them to disregard a mere woman like DB than run the risk of ignoring the instructions of the people who typically use the police as their personal and private enforcement proxies.

overnightangel · 21/12/2023 21:20

I’ve voted Labour all my life but her, Nadia Whittome and Kate Osborne are doing their best to dissuade me from ever doing so again.

Idiots

Karensalright · 21/12/2023 21:28

@overnightangel yes i know what you mean, hoping it will have unravelled somewhat by the time of the election
